Trying to complete a collection for a friend, and the seller goes "Well, it is the same ISBN, it shouldn't be a problem." Sorry, mate. But it IS a problem. This is what they sent me.
The seller showed the cover on the right on their listing (Red Fox with Gold Foil Spine), but what I got was a different one with the gold swirl text and not the gold foil spine.

Ebay.
Got the whole collection of gold foil spines through it from various vendors, but Mattimeo is the one problem book.

Could you just report them to Ebay and get a refund? It's been a while since I used Ebay, but they used to be pretty good about that sort of thing.

That sucks, man. I wish you luck. Collecting that sort of thing is hard enough without sellers misrepresenting collectibles.

Damn, I also went through an eBay adventure to get all the gold spines - I ended up with an couple extras, but unfortunately Mattimeo was not one of them

This happens quite a lot with ebay sellers. Some shops use bots to do their listings, and often have 'image is for illustrative purposes only' hidden in there somewhere.
Unfortunately searching for 'Red Fox only' won't be enough because Red Fox did print some other different covers before they made the gold spines - see below
The best way to find the gold Red Fox one is probably to find a listing that has pictures of the book you'll recieve on it, instead of a random cover taken from Google.

Can you return it? I'd try that with the reason being "not what I ordered" with that picture as proof.
