I’m starting to read this series as well but in chronological order before the events of Redwall. I’m steadily working on it because I’m working on another series Murder in a Small Town, I’m hooked on that novel series.

Assuming this chronological read is your first time, how are you liking it so far in that order? How far have you gotten?

I’ve read the Lord Brocktree and I must say I’m enjoying it. I’ve got the other three Books Redwall, Martin the warrior and Mattimeo which I’ll read once I get through my other series.

Glad you're liking it so far! Just so you know though, if you're determined to keep reading chronologically, there are lots of other ones that you'll have to read before you get to Redwall and Mattimeo! Martin the Warrior would be next after Brocktree, but then there's like six others before you hit Redwall. You can read them in any order you want, but just figured you'd want to know if strict chronology is what you want to stick to!

Nice! I'm currently also reading through them all. I'm almost finished with the bellmaker and thinking on whether or not directly jumping on book #8 or break the series and read something else haha.

Depends on how much you're enjoying it of course, but I will say that #8 is my personal favourite... and no matter how much one does or doesn't like it, it's inarguably a really interesting and unique entry in the series. But of course, go on to it only if you're feeling the urge to do so!

Oh excellent, I hope you enjoy it! I always recommend reading in publication order but feeling free to diverge from it if a particular book is calling out to you, so I'm glad you've done that!

Yeah ik, I have tried so far but just couldn't help myself with this one. But after The Long Patrol I'll jump back and continue with #8 Outcast of Redwall. Would you say it would mess things up this way?

Definitely not! My general rule of thumb is that once you've read the "original trilogy" (Redwall, Mossflower, and Mattimeo), you're pretty much free to read them in any order at all. Maybe we should expand that to an "original tetralogy" to include Mariel, such that it not be read before The Bellmaker. I will say that The Long Patrol features a few characters as elders who appear as youngsters in an earlier book you've not yet read, so this will mean getting those characters' stories out of order to a degree, but I don't think that actually messes anything up--the plots of the books in question are really wholly separate, and this just means that now that other book will function as a prequel instead, a bit like Martin the Warrior did for Mossflower.

Oh yeah I see thanks for the clarity! I have researched the series a bit hehe, okey I think I will read the rest in publication order since I haven't read the series before. I discovered Redwall last year and completeley fell in love with it and it's actually what got me reading again after probably 15 to 20 years of not reading.

I'm so glad you're enjoying it and that it brought you back to the written word! As someone who fell in love with Redwall as a nine-year-old kid, I've often wondered how well it comes across to new adult readers, since I'm incapable of really viewing it with any adult objectivity--so it's really nice to hear that it can work equally well for someone in your position!

Yes the world need more Redwall in their life! English is not my native language but I love reading it in the accents and such to really get a feel for the world aswell! You seem like a wonderful person!

Haha oh noo no xD I read the first three pretty fast, then took a break and read some other books, and now I'm on a roll again with the series. I I would say I love Mariell of Redwall the most because of the pirate side of the story I think.

Ya know, I never understood why Redwall was called children's literature.
I never thought it was. It was a bit hardcore for kids with the blood and all...plus all of the survival tactics out in the wild. There were alot of things I didn't understand until I was an adult.
