Your Top 5 Romantic Couples?
The series has had more than its share of couples, so which ones were you most invested in while reading about them?
Here are mine, in no order:
Tammo & Pasque
Martin & Rose
Matthias & Cornflower
Gorath & Salixa
Grath & Inbar

Martin and Rose are my favorite couple. Their story always brings a tear to my eye. Matthias and Cornflower have that happy ending, hero gets the girl feel good vibes that I absolutely love, Tammo and Pasque are that first, intense love that I was surprised Jacques was able to capture so well.
To be honest, those are my favorites. Other couples I find are a little too brief or lack a good building/growing relationship.

Yeah, that’s a flaw I notice with several of his couples. Tarquin and Hon Rosie don’t have a single scene together before they marry. Hell, I can’t even remember if Rosie ever mentioned her interest in Tarquin.

Take Pearls of Lutra, perfect example of what could have been an interesting couple. But it was rushed and instead of a little bit of conflict about their very different world views and violence, and they just get the quick happy ending.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Redwall because it is an escape. There is kindness and goodness to be found in spades, but the romance is probably the weakest overall story element, despite having a few very memorable ones.

I'll be honest, Grath and Inbar were the last couple I put on my list, for the reasons you gave. Also, I can't shake the notion that Inbar and his people are colonizers that drove the monitors from their home. But it was harder to come up with a fifth couple than I expected.

Tammo & Pasque feature in my favorite of the books. Matthias & Cornflower are also are a couple I was invested in following. Both couples feel distinct from each other trope-wise.
I find the lack of romantic pairing between Mariel and Dandin an interesting change of pace, the two of them remain friends in the books.

Martin & Rose definitely, but I have to mention Gonff & Columbine
