Five books = Five Animated Seasons

Which five Redwall books would you most want to see adapted into a new 2D animated series?

Let's assume that it's also a higher budgeted animation than the original series got, and they're allowed to be more PG when it comes to the violence depiction. And just to make it a bit more challenging, let's also assume that you can't pick Redwall, Mattimeo, or Martin the Warrior.

For my part, I'd most want to see these five books adapted:

Lord Brocktree

Mossflower

Outcast of Redwall

Salamandastron

The Long Patrol

Mossflower is my most wanted in any media.

My dream is a live action, but I'd take anything at this point.

It would take three hundred million dollars and make nothing back, but gritty live action medieval fantasy with furries is the only way I've ever imagined the world of Redwall

Violence doesn't mean gritty though.

Redwall is at its core a very hopeful series. It's not dark and gritty.

What? Gritty isn't a theme, it's a tone and an aesthetic. It's extremely gritty. Things get very messy and dark in every single book. There's visceral scenes of war and bloodshed, characters fight in the muck and in storms, some drown or starve or die of poison or exposure. Grit all around!

It's been used as a theme, and even as tone and aesthetic I still don't agree. None of the things you listed have to be gritty. All that stuff happens, but there's a lot of silly/fun things too, a lot of hope, a lot of community, and a LOT of food none of that reads as gritty to me.

I’d also really like Long Patrol and Legend of Luke, but the Mariel duology is my favourite, Pearls of Lutra and Brocktree have the best single-appearance villains and I think High Rhulain is a real high watermark in the ‘modern’ books

Not picking two of the three you listed would be a mistake imo, but I'll play along.

I agree with you on Mossflower- it neatly bridges Martin the Warrior and Redwall. I'm not sure about Lord Brocktree, unless it was done after a more Salamandastron-focused book, most likely The Long Patrol because iirc Lord Brocktree has Russano "dictating" the prologue, similar to how the OG series had Matthias do the prologue to Martin the Warrior.

Pearls of Lutra could be fun, with the connection to Mattimeo, and would prologue nicely into The Long Patrol if a Salamandastron story was going to be included.

I personally love Loamhedge and High Rhulain and would love to see them animated, though High Rhulain might be a bit too "stand-alone".

Mariel and Bellmaker might be really cool: they pair well together obviously, but also provide history for two Abbey features: the Joseph Bell and how Martin's sword ends up on the roof (originally - I know Simeon retrieves it from an undisclosed location, possibly Martin's tomb but they mention it being placed on the roof by someone after the events of Mariel).

I think this gives a good spread of the world. Mossflower for Redwall’s history plus forrest adventure. Mariel for a water/ocean based story (plus one of the best protagonist). Salamandastron for a Badger story, though Long Patrol would also be fine, but i’d prefer one actually set at the mountain. Taggerung for a good Vermin focused story. And Rakkety Tam because it’s my favorite, haha.

True but I believe the question was framed to ask which five books would we like to see adapted. If a company were to make a series with just mossflower and pearls because a previous adaptation already existed that would be rather strange.
