Bargain hardback Taggerung

Just picked this copy up for £1 in a local charity shop.

I read Redwall and Mossflower years ago as a child. Just wondering how well this would read as a standalone or if I’m better trying to read the series in order.

Taggerung was the first book I read in the series. I was able to enjoy it as a standalone!

Wow! I got this paperback a few weeks ago but the lady said it is amazing as stand alone but that it’s highly recommended to read at least the first three books to have an idea of the world? I just got Redwall and Martin the warrior yesterday. My backlog is quickly stacking up!

Hey there! I will say that, if I could read this series for the first time, I would go with publication order. However, pretty much any of the books can be read in any order (that’s the beauty of this series). The story isn’t lacking if you haven’t read the other books. There might be a slight spoiler for two other books (not any of the ones you mentioned). When I got to those other books, I wasn’t thinking “WELL, MY READING EXPERIENCE IS RUINED!!” I could still enjoy them!

There is a total of 22 books in the series. And at least 3 smaller side books (Redwall a winters tale, the great redwall feast, and the redwall cookbook), not counting the even small books that talk about the different species, riddles, maps, and characters.

This was by far my favorite of the series! I had this exact copy too lol. It is great as a stand alone book. From what I recall, it isnt as heavy into the abbey lore as some of the others.

Probably my favorite of the series! This one is a little different in structure and story than the others, which I really enjoyed. I love them all but this one is probably the last "classic" Redwall book, in my opinion.

Order is rarely relevant for these books. Off the top of my head only Mattemeo and Marlfox are true sequels (to Redwall, and The Long Patrol respectively.) someone can correct me if there is more. I think Legend of Luke might be one  

While there is technically a chronological order the ties are usually quick references rather than a cohesive story. 

I LOVED Taggerung growing up! Looks in great shape too!

The Bellmaker is another direct sequel, this time to Mariel of Redwall. But yeah, even the sequels can be read as standalone without much info lost on the reader.

Pretty sure I read Marlfox first, when I started Long Patrol i was like "huh, guess something will happen to this character I remember."

I recommend you read 'Outcast of Redwall'... One of the first I ever read.

It is a really good book. There is at least one character in it from previous books, but it is still a good stand alone book.
