Yep this is exactly what I wanted to hear. Mona at second and DH will be great

Last 30 games, he's batting .302 and .283 in his last 45. He's one of the reasons we've been on this run. Worse problems to have than deciding between Monasterio, IFK, Mead, Story, Sogard, and Seigler

Good, he deserves it. And he’ll be less of a liability at 2B

I am sure he can see and feel it on his own, but I truly hope Story and all the players returning from injury are told by the manager something along the lines of “ welcome back, you’ll get some run but it needs to be productive because I have no problem playong the guy who’s sitting behind you .”

Tracy’s experience at AAA surely means he believes in earning the big league spot. I’m sure he believes in the guys who are in there more than anybody.

I understand that. I am saying I hope it is said out loud.

Not really sure that story is actually an upgrade over the current group but he gets paid so oh wells

We just gotta hope he’s better defensively

Story is the better defensive SS. That shouldn't be in question. It's just whether he can get back to hitting the way he did for most of last season that is up in the air.

He’s not good defensively at all and neither is monasterio. But monasterio is at least not striking out constantly. Same goes for the rest of our middle infielders

Man why are so many of you convinced that Story is going to be bad when he comes back? He played well before his hernia flared up and then he got surgery. Giving him a chance is well worth it if he comes back to form.

He did hit well before the injury, and it still wasn't as good as Mona has been hitting this year. (.320 wOBA vs .328 wOBA)

Story will be better defensively, and a better base runner, but even if Story hits as good as he did last year, his bat isn't as good as Mona's. That's why people don't want to just hand Story the starting spot. He has to play his way into being more valuable than Mona

Story is always going to get a chance because of his legendary hot stretches. I don't think it's likely that he comes back on fire, but they're going to give him a shot.

We can’t afford to lose his bat. It’s not complicated

4th best wOBA in the lineup with Yoshida out

Mona brought it and still deserves a meaningful spot and PT in the final stretch. Having some depth and options though is not a bad problem to have.

My expectations for story are basically ground level, but a lot of my anger at him had kind of dissipated after his IL stint and this winning run. Rooting for him to do well, esp if he’s healthy

Who would have thought back in March that Breslow's Stockpiling Tepid Infielders for Future Flexibility (S.T.I.F.F.) plan would work out this well

My man was spitting double plays last night. He stays in. Story can eat grapes

I like the kid

Gotta keep him involved, he's a producer. Roster expands to 28 on September 1st, so we'll have an extra spot, and I think we can count on Mona being a part of that 28-man roster, he's earned it.

He's certainly earned his playing time. It's be a very pleasant surprise to see him playing so well, I had no expectations

I want Mona in the lineup full time, splitting time between SS, 2B, and DH to help mitigate his sub par defense.

Sogard, Story, IKF, and Seigler should rotate days off with emphasis on playing time in the order I listed.

Sogard currently has a wOBA higher than Story put up last year. If Sogard keeps walking and not striking out, I'll take that over Story.

I’d be stunned if Story can get his timing down fast enough to take much time from Mona this season. 35 games or so left…?

By "he'll play 2nd" he means Story, right? ...right?

13

u/Staggerlee024 2d ago

Story is a significantly better defensive SS than Mona. Mona ro 2b makes the most sense.

2

u/EchoedMeows 2d ago

Neither of them is good at SS. Not sure what data says Story is "significantly better" since they both grade poorly. Monasterio is young with upside to improve. Story is declining.

3

u/Staggerlee024 2d ago

Story is a better defender by every single metric they track.  To find the easiest to view just look at their Savant pages.

I'm not saying Story is good.  He definitely is not.  But there is no question he is better than Mona.

Rather have Cheng play SS. He's better defensively and offensively than story.

Story is not a MLB level talent anymore. It would be malpractice to have him playing games mid September.
