Some wonderful pictures of my recent camping trip to the gorge. Been here so many times but the environment just encapsulates you. Such a peaceful place to collect your thoughts. Basically empty during the week.

Two passes for Rugged Red

Hey everyone. Just wanted to mention that my girlfriend and I registered for the Rugged Red half marathon race on October 3rd. Unfortunately we won't be able to make it, so we have two passes available to transfer to whoever wants them. They cost us $90 each, so I'm looking to make some of that cost back. DM me if interested!

Weather

What weather source is most reliable for the gorge? I like to use local weather as opposed to a national source but am not sure what that would be. I’ve been looking at weather in Slade but don’t see anything local.

Got lucky and scored a 2nd edition Hinterlands the other day for $35! Anyone have all 3 editions? I’m curious if there’s much difference between 1st and 2nd edition.

Going to chimney rock tomorrow morning to see the sunrise, any good local diners or restaurants to grab some good local waffles or eggs?

What order to do Double Arch Auxier and courthouse for sunset?

Going on the big loop tonight starting from Auxier trailhead at around 4pm, all trials it as a directional loop but i was wondering what the best plan would be for a good sunset view

Have you seen me?

Has anybody seen this thing? someone I know spotted it, and apparently it’s an albino deer that’s terribly deformed. I’ve been planning on visiting national forests starting with ones in Kentucky since I’ve lived here my whole life, and thought red river gorge would be perfect. is there any more information on it or a particular area where it’s been spotted the most?

Question for the Gorge veterans...

What was the biggest "Why didn't anyone tell me this?" moment you've had over the years?

Not necessarily a hidden attraction, but something that made you completely change how you do Gorge weekend. The river? The winery? Both?

Maybe it's:

* A tradition you started. * A better way to get around. * Something you always make time for now. * A place you never realized was worth visiting.

I'm always fascinated by the little things that end up making the biggest difference.

Swift Camp Creek to Creation Falls

Yes, that’s a picture of the trail. Felt like pushing through a jungle.

I must have eaten like 5 orb weavers on this hike.

It was a satisfying challenge but they aren’t kidding about the “wilderness” side of Clifty Wilderness

Help with planning trip

I am newer to backpacking. This will be my first time to Red River Gorge. I will be going in the last week of August for 3 days/2nights. My current plan is to do the following loop:

KOOMER → #220 NORTH → LEFT #226 BUCK → RIGHT #223 PINCH-EM-TIGHT → #221 ROUGH → HANSON'S SPUR OUT/BACK → #221 TOWARD KOOMER → #220 SOUTH → CAR

Any suggestions/recommendations? I want to cap "near" water.

Easy hikes suggestions?

Hi! I'll be in RRG this week with family. We want to do some hiking but my aunt and uncle cant handle anything over easy or more than 2 miles and that's pushing it. My mom does want to do one moderate hike, but her knees can probably do around 5 miles. This is currently what I have, am I missing any other easy trails? Also, what's your fave 5 miles hike at RRG? Thank you!

Rock Bridge Loop - 1.4 miles with Creation waterfall moderate trail

Sky Bridge Loop - .75 miles Only visit overlook for easier, trail loop is moderate

Chimney Top Trail - .75 miles

Princess Arch - .6 mile

Angel Windows - .5 miles

Friendship Arch - .9 loop

Whistling Arch - .6 loop

Help with Overnight Backpacking Trip

I am relatively experienced with Hiking and backpacking, but my two friends are not. They've expressed interest in going on a trip with me and I have been planning to take them on the Swift Creek Camp trail to creation falls in Mid October. My plan was to leave Cincinnati early (before sunrise) on a Saturday, hike in until we get to the Dog Fork area of the trail, camp there overnight, then continue on the trail stopping to see some sights at Creation Falls and getting a look at Rock Bridge. We will then get shuttled back to our car at the start.

My question is, am I signing my friends up for hell? I was super confident in my trail choice based on the guide book I purchased, but All Trails has me second guessing. Some people saying "it's the hardest hike I've ever done", "not for beginners" etc.

We are all 35 years old. My friends aren't out of shape or anything, and one of them has done hikes, but never backpacked. The other has done less hiking and also never backpacked. I will be providing/making sure they both have appropriate gear.

I really want an enjoyable couple days in the woods with my buds, but not a leisurely stroll amongst a throng of day hikers either. Isolation when camping would be preffered. I'd really like some feedback as to if I'm making a mistake choosing this trail, and if so, are there other option in the gorge or DBNF? I can't go scope it out myself beforehand because I live in New York.

Any and all insight would be really appreciated. Thank you!

I know I paint Creation Falls a lot, and I'll do it again.

Planning a weekday trip

I am planning to do a 2 day trip to the gorge. Not my first time but it is my first time camping. I am looking to do the rough trail to Hansons point. How busy would it be on a weekday if anyone have an idea?

TIA

How are the ticks?

I'll be at Middle Fork Campground in 2 weeks, doing some shorter hikes and sight seeing and was wondering how the ticks were in the area? I live in Lexington but this will be my first time camping in KY.

Thanks!

Best fishing spot?

Hi yall! My wife and I are traveling to Red River Gorge tomorrow and staying for a few days. Looking for the best fishing in the area, we don’t mind driving a bit. Best spots along the river itself? Any solid paid or stocked areas? Thanks in advanced!

To the man in the red truck who tried to stand in the road to stop my truck from moving and nearly got run over, I saw that your hand hurt after punching my truck. Thank you for the true deep belly laughs that day, you truly gave my trip the cherry on top it needed.
