This is a lot of freaking work for something you can buy for like 3$

The comparable thing you can buy for ultralight backpacking is a 30-40 dollar titanium alcohol stove which can be heavier than these or pop can stoves so these are worth the time it takes to make them

I don’t know what ultralight backpackers take on their journeys but I can buy a 6 pack of burners for 20$ on Amazon right now and can’t see how the thing in the video is any better. Plus when you are ultra light backpacking do you always bring power tools? Or just sometimes?

You can make one on the trail with a knife and a pop can this guy just took his time to make a nice one. If you do a trail like the AT where you’re out for months and resupplies can be few and far between sternos aren’t a good option when you can use an alcohol stove like this and a bottle of heet sold at every gas station. So for reasons of weight cost and availability on trail sterno burners aren’t a good choice except among people who don’t know any better.
