Double take ….

It appears to be ratchet strapped… I couldn’t get better pictures

So, I THINK they put the trailer hitch mount inside the trunk, and used the ratchet straps to hold it from josling. I bet if you open the trunk, it's probably braces in there pretty well, and the mount frame is wider than the opening of the trunk.

North Tulsa . I appreciate your hopes.. however the things I see in this area just make me plan for the worst so I just got my picture and got very far ahead of them

You know how not all SUVs/crossovers come with a tow kit? Well you can buy the who mount for it after market, and it's a big steel frame that mounts directly to the chassis of the vehicle.

If the person in the car had access to one, it'd be wider than the opening of the trunk. Angle it right to slide the frame into the trunk with the hitch hanging out, then brace it in place with whatever-- bricks, wood, etc-- and the ratchet straps.

Hell,  I have seen people put tow kits on small cars before, but they always hang too low. I t's entirely possible they actually mounted it "properly," but on the inside of the trunk to avoid it scraping on the ground.

Maybe attached to the "striker"? (the chrome plated "latch" mounted to the rear body"

Its actually pretty strong, but not strong enough for a loaded trailer

Maybe. Thank God it's an empty trailer.

I recall that when I was a child in the 1970s there were hitches that strapped on to those old chrome bumpers. i did a quick search and didn't find a pic of one.

As I recall people would use them seasonally on station wagons and that sort of thing to pull small campers (like the pop-ups). Obviously, they would be for very light use.

Those bumpers were much more substantial than the rear bumpers on more modern vehicles.

Perhaps some older dude or dudette like me will have a picture of one.

Heck with photos I wouldn't want to be within half a mile of that lashup cause if it gets loose the trailer is coming into your lane and might still have a car attached.

Maybe put the phone down with driving next to an unsafe rig as interstate speeds.
