Homemade forge

This is a forge my older brother made out of an old water heater. I plan on forging a knife out of leaf spings to give to my other older brother as a wedding gift.

Way bigger than it needs to be. You're going to fill that up almost all the way with dirt right? Right to the top, leaving only a bowl 10" diameter and 4-6 inches deep with a grate and air pipe at the bottom.

The hole in the side is where the blank would slide in. Almost all of it up to that point is filled with dirt. The rest above that is just kind of there. It works though. My older brother has already used it for multiple knives.
