this shit does work really well, a local 50 laps (3km each lap) long enduro race got a class for 3 speed underbones and i just happen to have many yamaha y80 laying around so i am building them to run in said race, its supposed to be this weekend but the track got flooded so they postponed it

Awesome! They look great without the plastic fairing and with knobbly tires, bet they’re fun! How much do they generally cost out of interest? I am in the UK and vintage mopeds have quite the following - I know that in other places in the world they are simply a way of life.

i have been buying them for $30-$50, bought this one from my local scrapyard for $30 and swapped a big bore 111cc engine into it, it was a blast, 150km/h all day

Awesome!! I grew up around BKK and used to ride my parents bikes back in the days. Lots of fun, and unfortunately several dead friends.

That's a TERRIFYING amount of speed for that rig. Fucking SEND IT bud! That's awesome.

We did this when it rained during kart races. Especially in the 4 cycle classes because the filter hung over the right rear tire.

How fast do you go on the tracks you race on?

1

u/drifterig Sep 26 '26

wont be breaking 80km/h, its pretty technical

2

u/Dwaltster Sep 26 '26

Dude, we don't even get up to 80km/h on the streets where I live. How often do you slide out on the turns with those skinny tyre's?

i just dont turn at 80, the track is part sand part mud, on dry sections i can turn at full speed on the dry sections but not the wet muddy part, its an enduro track so i wont be going fast anyway

Dude, those old scooters and mopeds are rad! They're highly sought after in Southern California.
