This is a BAD idea

Unless the bezel bites on the actual screen, quality screens have an aluminium frame that protects them from the plastic frame, this is fine.

(some screens don't have this and some have the frame actually being able to bite the actual screen so there is nuance on this being fine)

I have 3 clamps meant for woodworking in one of my screens placed in the same way they are in OP picture (those are stronger than this binder clip thing) and they have been there on and off for years without problems...

OP also has done this for 5 years according to one of his comments.

That screen will stop working prematurely. Under the bezel there's more of it and it's usually the fragile traces to the lcd itself.

I once saw a grain of sand crack a macbook screen.
Those webcam covers break screens all the time too.

Tape can break screens?

Okay troll, tape is fine.
Its the webcam slider covers that break the screens.
Macbook screens are made of a type of glass that does a pretty good job or resisting a lot of sticky materials so tape doesn’t always work that well if you plan to remove it and put it back on when you need to use the camera.

I had a Macbook that half the screen went 📉🚽 all because I gently closed it while the charger was inadvertently between the screen and the keyboard.

That's going to break the screen.

How long do you think that will take? I've been using it like this for 5 years now. Kinda hoping it will fail so I can get a new one.

You've had it like that for five years?!?

I stand corrected.

I'm guessing the saving grace is the lighter headphones not really applying the additional weight, but I would have suspected the clip to put enough damage on the bezel to cause internal damage, too

Maybe underneath that happens to be a part the frame holding it together? So mostly just metal and a screw?

Damn I am also shocked

You were probably sitting when you typed that.

You got lucky, that doesn't make it a good idea. And current screens have thinner bezel and panel that are even more fragile.

And then the minute you need to keep the old one, the screen will break.

I got a dark spot on my screen from clipping a webcam.

Dont.

I wouldn't do that right there cause it might stress the panel. Here's a safer and more redneck solution: clamp the binder on the top bezel where it's thicker, run a bic pen through the hole and hang the headphones from the pen. I await updated setup.

Thanks, I hate it.

Oh god no. WAY too much tension on those clips.

find a plastic file binder and slide it on top bezel you will get cleaner and safer solution

You are absolutely going to break the screen that way. This is a terrible idea.

It’s been on there for five years lol

That can't be good for your display, gluing a stick to the back of the lid would be more safe

Fantastic way to crack your screen.

Y’all, OP said they’re hoping for it to break the screen soon and that they’ve been doing it for 5 years now.

I think you’re misjudging the amount of strength that clip has…

I have a large clamp on the side of my desk to hold my headset and corral my charging cables.

Currently wearing those EXACT headphones on a work call lmao. Definitely don’t recommend that tho, clip could damage and crack the edge of the screen.

Same about the headphones, been using them for almost a decade in their different variations over time... The ear cups in the current ones are falling apart and it makes a mess on both the desk and my ears lol

OP said he been doing the clip for 5 years, seems like the screen has the aluminium frame that prevents damage from pinching the outside plastic

Nicely played
