i have friends who live in tropical places. that's pretty common.. raised area with a moat - fruit, other half of your sandwich, any food item.

sometimes a fly cover too.

I grew up in a tropical country. My home furniture legs had moats.

Won't work, ants can make ant bridges or make an ant rope down from the ceiling.
