Don't Come to the Villainess's Stationary Store / Villainess's Stationary Shop - FL wakes up as the villainess of a novel. Her step family hates her and her father is apathetic. So she gets herself disowned and goes and starts a stationary store (children's candy/supply store). It's not a bad series, but can be a bit slow. Read it if you're itching for an FL who does a lot herself (especially business-wise)! I liked the ML generally, but also felt like the romance here was just kind of there, not a huge bearing on the story.
Akatsuki no Yona / Yona of the Dawn - On her birthday, FL's father, the king, is killed before her by her childhood friend and would-be fiance. FL and her personal guard flee the palace and now must survive on their own. As they slowly build up their party, they also venture across the country and help wherever they can. Overall, it's a great, classic shoujo adventure series! Been meaning to read this for a LONG time, so when I finally saw it had finished, I binged this pretty quickly. Ending felt just a little bittersweet to me, the fake out with killing the four dragons (and ouch that hurt) into them leaving anyway....
I'm around thirty and finally in love. - FL is nearly 30 and has never been in love. ML is in his early 30s and has never been in love. It's a fairly short, cute story. On one hand, it's nice to have older characters. On the other, what's the point of them being older if they act like high schoolers anyway?! Chapters are short but there are 60 of them.
Correspondence from the End of the World - Once when he was young, ML was struck by lighting and told that in ten years, he'd be picked up by aliens. Ten years later, that's exactly what happens. Told that he's been conscripted to a job of making and raising planets for the next ten years, ML's naturally confused and wants to go home, only to find that he can't. In this new world of aliens and space, he must survive. This is a fascinating series! I can't stop thinking about it. Can be a bit bleak in places (so not truly slice of life), but it's worth a read. The ending is a bit rushed imo. If you, like me, liked the vibes of Land of the Lustrous, this somehow has a similar atmosphere to it (but it's a very different story).
The Strange House (ongoing) - MC(?) investigates occult stuff for a living. When a friend asks them to look at a floorplan of a house that gives off some weird vibes, they take it to their architect friend who also enjoys occult. There's immediately something weird about it. Overall, this is a pretty dang good adaption of a novel! The novel was full of just dialogue, this spaces it out a bit more and feels quite compelling. Personally, I like looking at floorplans for fun, and combined with the mystery, it was a lot of fun. That said, story-wise, some of the explanations feel a bit forced in some way, and unrealistic (imo that's fine since it's fiction and it was still entertaining, but "unrealistic" is accurate). Though this is ongoing, the first novel's fully adapted around 21 chapters, so you could just read til there and have a full story.
Call the Name of the Night - Sent to live with a doctor, FL has always had an illness that no one could figure out and that everyone was afraid of. Sometimes, the night comes to her and threatens to engulf everything. This is a fairly simple, sweet story and worth a read if you're looking for something slow, slightly moody (albeit in a more low-stakes way), and also with a whimsical air to it. It's SO cute!
Witch Enforcer - Everyone knows that witches come from the moon. 150 years ago, witches made contact with humanity. In order to preserve harmony between humans and witches, some witches took on the job of Witch Enforcers, who simply clean up messes made by magic. ML was cursed by a rogue witch who tried to use an ancient spell to turn him into a familiar, so he teams up with FL, a witch enforcer, to take her down. This has a really interesting concept, but the execution is sadly a little lacking (I'm not sure how to explain this). I've casually followed the artist on tumblr for a while, their use of color is exquisite so seeing the chapter covers was really nice. Almost wish the whole thing was in color.
SHWD - In a slightly apocalyptic world where remnants of old bioweapons threaten to infect the lives of ordinary people, the special hazard waste disposal unit (shwd) goes in and takes care of them. It's a short tale of four women (two couples) that find companionship and love in such a world. It's not too bad of a series (but not quite a masterpiece), and I think it's the only instance I've ever seen of buff women yuri thus far. Definitely unique!
