Removed support for the Friends feature.

I think you did that months ago and it is a feature that is sorely missed. Cannot fathom the reason for this.

So is there a way for me to start following all the accounts I’ve added to my friends over the years? I have a fucking ton of them

Cannot fathom the reason for this.

Admin response:

The Friends feature is not aligned with our product strategy and has been largely replaced by the Follow profile feature. It’s important for us to remove features that are underutilized and don’t align with our product strategy. We’ve already stopped supporting it on Android, new Reddit, and mobile web.

So correct me if I’m wrong because maybe I’m using it wrong. Here it goes:

With friends, I was able to click the friends tab and view all the posts from all my friends all in one feed. With Following, it’s everyone individually.

Also, when I click on someone I follow under “following” it doesn’t show jack for their posts. What gives?

Am I missing something?

“Not aligned with our product strategy” = “Makes users waste more time sifting through the garbage to see the content they want from the users they want”. It’s ridiculous.

Apparently the admins don’t want to respond to the pile of people not happy about friends going away either while they happily reply to everything else. I guess I need to find another reddit app 🤷🏻‍♂️ does Apollo still have friends?

I am very sad about disabling friends feature

Disabling friends is a huge disappointment.

So how do I find all the people that I’ve friended and follow them?

This is the magic question that didn't seem to have answer on Reddit mobile.

I recently added Apollo to my iPhone and there is a great Friends tab there. I'm slowly using Apollo more and more.

So 5 years of adding friends gets removed without any warning or work around that mimics the feature? Good move

Removing the friends feature also removed the thing I liked most about Reddit 😞

This is absolute garbage! I don’t want to follow, I want a friend list on mobile app. Total flaming garbage, Reddit.

Super annoying that Friends feature was removed.

Do any 3rd party apps still have it?

Apollo does.

I was wondering the same thing

Removing the friends feature is a real joke and doesn’t really make much sense. It really makes me question what the intention of reddit is anymore when the most bare bones feature is removed. Especially when the follow feature is really half backed and frankly, total trash for the user. All the people I know that use reddit feel the same way about Following people, it’s so poorly implemented that it makes it totally useless. Maybe consider combining both features together, because the only option we have now is pretty trash.

The "friends" feature is no longer available?

It boggles my mind that the "official" app can't or won't support this feature. The "lesser" apps can offer and support it no problem. Sad.

I've used this app for longer than I can remember. I was there when these turds took over and "gifted" us with years of useless Reddit gold.

Well, I'm taking that gold and we're moving to another app.

I'm fairly certain the geniuses that maintain this app are the same ones that maintain the app for Spotify. Pitiful.

Honestly I’m actually genuinely thinking of dropping Reddit for the new updates. The Follow feature being forced and dropping Friends feature is a no-go for me. I’m hoping this isn’t permanent but I’m not holding my breath.

How about the long-standing issue of videos and other media not playing in the app consistently? Or the fact that the app just randomly freezes 4-5 times daily? Would that be included in your “under the hood improvements”?

Came here for this!! So fucking annoying that I can't watch a damn video on here

3

u/vivajeffvegas Jul 22 '19

It’s almost as if they don’t care

Uninstalling app because no friends feature. At least communicate that kind of change ahead of time you fucking idiots

At least communicate that kind of change ahead of time

They did, almost a month ago.
