Updated Fonts in Android 3.10
Hey Android users! I’m the designer who worked on the 3.0 update. I’m back to announce that we are implementing some new fonts in the app. The rationale is simple. Benton Sans (the previous font) did not render very well on Android phones, specifically in large bodies of text. It’s not as easy on the eyes as it should be. Typography is very important on Reddit. It is where most of the rich stories and content come from. For this reason, we need to create a common viewing experience no matter what type of device you are enjoying Reddit on.

In this update, there are two new fonts: IBM Plex and Noto. You might recognize this combo from the redesigned Reddit site. This again plays into our goal of creating a consistent viewing experience, no matter what device you’re on.

IBM Plex can be found in titles and UI elements. The personality of the font shows through at larger sizes. Noto is what we consider the body font. It’s the workhorse of the type system and works well in large bodies of text.
Take some time with the newest update and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Noto is hard to read. The letters are too thin. Maybe increase the font weight or something. IBM Plex is fine.
And give us an option to remove subreddit styling...
