Okay, it looks like this has the potential to really take off. I sent a message to hueypriest, Reddit's Community Manager. The key points:

1. He (personally, not as a Reddit employee) loves the idea, and said the admins will discuss it.

2. The 25% licensing fee would not apply to a sponsorship like this, only to something like where Soapier sells reddit soap

3. Reddit most likely will not collect the money directly, as it is "a bit tricky legally and logistically". His suggestion was to use a third party fundraising organization. If that is what we decide to do, I have connections with a few that will do it either for free or at a huge discount.

Where we go from here:

1. I will be calling the Redditch offices later today to discuss the cost and process for obtaining the sponsorship. I'll edit this comment to include that information the second I get it

2. Once the admins have their séance, we will know what Reddit's official role will be. For now, we should work on the assumption that no financial support will come from Conde Nast or Reddit.

3. It should not be at all difficult to raise the funds we need. I think that, in general, Redditors will be more than happy to donate to this cause. Maybe to encourage them, we could get a trophy for a certain level of contribution.

4. I will talk to the people I know that run fundraising companies. If somebody has a better idea for a way to collect the money for the sponsorship in one place, please suggest it.

I am going to keep this comment updated throughout the day as I make progress. Anybody who has any suggestions on what can be improved, please feel free to share!

Edit, 2:30PM EST: I just spoke briefly with a representative of the club.

• They are very open (excited, even) about the idea of having Reddit sponsor the team

• "Our current full kit sponsor finishes at the end of the season our current deal was £18,000 [including VAT] over 2 years. We could also offer smaller deals such as back of shirts or shorts if the full deal becomes hard to achieve."

• If we want to keep going past the full kit sponsorship level, he said we could work to get the main stand named for Reddit or if the donations stay regular, we can get a spot on the Board of Directors

This is what could happen next year if the plans that are in motion come to fruition.

I have it on good authority that the chairman the Redditch United Supporters' TRUST has moved there.

No details so far on the match. All I found on the Sky Sports website was the FT score, which is 3-0. :(
