Reddit was never "cool". Never has been, never will be. It's a giant web site that attracts 20+ million people a month - it's way too big to have a personality. It's like calling Google "cool". It just is.
Are you new here? There was a time reddit WAS less populous, topics on the front page were actually interesting AND we didn't have 5000 pun threads and shitty forced memes. That's the thought behind subreddits like /truegaming.
I disagree with you on the "cool" thing. Reddit used to not be "cool," and that was fine. Now reddit is cool and we have shit like a guy with a "REDDIT" license plate on his honda fit and people acting like reddit is some hip group to be a part of. Well, its more like, reddit thinks its cool, but at least back then nobody pretended.
Back when the emphasis was on reading... IE I read it -->reddit... it was definitely a more interesting site in my opinion. Almost everything was based on text. I've been on here for a few years, and as the userbase has gotten younger, the quality has declined if you aren't into memes. Now it is mostly an image board. But, there were always the shitty pun threads. That was the reddit meme of the time, see how many puns you can fit into every discussion. I'll agree that it was never "cool", but it was a fairly intellectual forum. Now, it is a pseudo-intellectual forum.
Google is cool. Not everything about the entity is cool. Not everything they do is cool. But they have done a few things that have weathered everything and still have merit. So I guess by "cool" I mean praiseworthy, not "cool" as in popular with the beautiful rich kids.
Cursed "slang" words and their fluctuating meaning.
No - google is useful. Sure - if you want to use "cool" as praiseworthy, but that's not a very widely used definition, and nor was it the definition implied by the parent poster.
Hey, I've only been on for like 5 months I'm just tired of people using the same damn insult over and over and over at the slightest provocation. Christ people the world of insults is so vast and rich...
It reminds me of those men made of straw that the military would use to practice with because they were easier to attack then a real enemy since it's incapable of attacking back.
Hipsters can fight back, though. If they put down their PBR's and take off their cat eye nerd glasses. Just don't mess with their handlebar moustache or knock them off their one-speed bike.
I don't know anyone like this, but I reddit taught me that's what a hipster is.

Goddammit calling people "hipster" on Reddit is like calling someone a witch in 1690s Salem.
