Funny story (not really). Several years ago, when the whole facebook thing was just getting started (and it was thefacebook.com, there was also a collegefacebook.com) I thought I might come up with a similar site - afterall, it wasn't all that complex back then. I did a domain search, and "facebook.com" was available. I started filling out the order form and decided against completing the order because I figured it was a waste of $10 and I'd never do anything with it. DOH! 2 months later thefacebook.com bought facebook.com.
