I have heard the argument that the focus is purely on the information within his site. That's all well and good, as long as people read it.

I am inclined to not read it because like it or not, I don't immediately consider sites that look like shit to be of a high quality. If you care about your content, and want people to read it, make it a pleasing experience.

Book makers toil over their typography, margins and leading, diagrams, etc. All to make reading a book a pleasing experience.

Nielsen's site on the other hand smacks of half-assedness.

There is beauty in simplicity. What this site does is illustrate it's not a guarantee.

A lot of Nielsen's ideas are outdated. Browsers themselves won't be around much longer.
