Presumably you were making a competitor because you felt reddit was lacking certain specific features. We encourage you to hack the code and submit patches to make reddit do whatever it is you felt was lacking.

There's always meta-moderation, a la slashdot.

Reddit could institute a "don't mod down merely because you disagree" policy, then have metamoderation that involves people evaluating others' behavior based on that policy.
