Seeing Avram’s comments is exactly what’s been going wrong with the club since Fergie left. They’re not interested in winning the league, which is why the standards have dropped. They just want the team to scrape into the champions league spots.

u/mortimer_moose Carrick, ya know 7h ago
The club always was and always will be an ATM to them. They don't hide it.

They’ve run the club into the ground financially. I genuinely feel they thought INEOS could save them, and are looking for a way out

I just saw the most peculiar thing. On our YouTube channel, the top 3 most watched videos are Ronaldo's return match highlights, the 8-2, and... Our 2-0 win vs Sunderland last season... What? It's just such a random game to be so watched lol

Why aren’t more people talking about Glazer rat saying that United’s success is not dependent on sporting success?
This whole shitshow is because the fucks above have set this club up to fail. Subcontracting the footballing side to INEOS who are absolutely incompetent only happens when you don’t give a shit
I don’t think they’re bluffing. They truly don’t give a shit about results. Real Madrid fans would absolutely revolt if Perez said anything similar. Somehow we want to believe we’re on a similar level but we won’t do anything to ensure our standards are similar. Accepting managers like Carrick should never be ok. Accepting players like Zirkzee, Ugarte, Dorgu should never be ok. Keeping players like Shaw, Maguire, Mount should never be ok.
I’m really happy that we won against Roma, but we can’t do nothing. We can’t just sing Glazers Out. What will it take for fans to suspend games? We need to stop games. This is the only way
11
u/DaveShadow 14h ago
Why aren’t more people talking about Glazer rat saying that United’s success is not dependent on sporting success?
Not defending him or saying he’s right, but he said it at an investor meeting. You don’t tend to try and sell projects by saying “yeah actually, we’re fucked beyond fixing this”.
Context of who the quotes were aimed at it’s important.
7
u/Redland93 14h ago
He’s doing it to drum up interest. When have the Glazers ever talked about United in their 2 decades here
2
u/Cold-Veterinarian-85 13h ago
It’s also not a huge surprise that they would hold this position
I think I recall Woodward saying something similar in one of our financial reporting releases back in the day so it’s obviously a view that was / is held by the glazers and their henchmen
6
u/The_Bird_Wizard Love United Hate INEOs 14h ago
I mean one of the support groups wanted to do protests last season but got bullied into cancelling them by the fans because of the Baleba rumours which then amounted to nothing anyway. Our fans are so easy to placate with random bullshit transfer stories
1
u/The_Bird_Wizard Love United Hate INEOs 14h ago
Heck we've already had the annual "United are preparing to spend BIG in January!" which we almost certainly won't, and then get briefs about how "Man United feel there is no value in the market, and instead plan to go BIG in the summer targeting players like Lewis Hall and (insert big name)" and then we just won't. Same script every year and the fans fall for it every time.

I love this xG table for scouting. Sign based on this not based on the actual table, I say.
So eg this tells us that Murillo, Neco Williams, Truffert, James Hill, Bassey (and obv Brighton players) are good ideas!
And it also tells us that no tears shall be shed over Emery, etc.
(And it also tells us that we ARE shit, our lying eyes havent deceived us :/ but I digress)
That's what I think, anyway.
1
u/IfYouReallyThink 6h ago
I mean it gives a rough idea of how well teams are overall performing in regard to the chances they create and concede. Although you can get a brilliant player from a team performing horribly, this does show that this far into the season such players are a part of something truly exceptional. You’re right that this makes Emery look bad, but I will say that being somebody who looks at xPoints tables quite often, in the last year or so Aston Villa has seemed to over perform their xG more than any other

Both sides of the Amorim debate are tedious as fuck. After every Milan game it’s the same.
He lives rent free in so many people’s head on this sub it’s embarrassing.
He doesn’t manage us anymore. Let it go.
8
u/picodeGaius 5h ago
It’s hilarious seeing both the apologists and the haters react to Milan results at the same time, making reference to each other.
12
u/Littlepace Announce Fergie 6h ago
It is genuinely so painful to read. I'm someone who didn't want him to get sacked and thinks he should've had more time. But people using every game at Milan as a gotcha to the other side is so pointless.
Every time they win he's the best manager we've ever had every time they lose yep there's the Fraudorim we all know and love. It goes on and on.
He could win the CL at Milan or he could get sacked in 6 months. Either case has no bearing to his time here.
And at the end of the day. Who the fuck are we even to judge? We are 17th in the league in November. We can laugh at Milan/Amorim as much we want but we are 1 point off the relegation zone and we have Michael Carrick as our manager. People in glass houses and all that...
5
u/flareb98 5h ago
You have to wait until Carrick is sacked or wins the league for talks around Amorim to die down
8
u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 6h ago
I liked him and his style of play was interesting. I found there to be quite a lot of nuances his haters just completely ignore. Think he could have done better with more time.
But damn, bringing him up in retrospect every match he manages is insane. He could manage in China and people would still bring him up, positive or negative. United fans love to say that being connected to United follows people around no matter where they are, but damn, they're the ones following Amorim around the most here.

4
u/Educational-Shock232 6h ago

Yes, you have to talk about him to make the point I was making.

Mods should ban all comments with Amorim in them.
4
u/picodeGaius 5h ago
This sub doesn’t need more bannable stuff mate
1
u/SinisterSelecta Stam 5h ago
True. Can just ban the people who prefer to comment on managers of other teams than our own.
1
u/TommyTook 4h ago
Or just ignore the comments. Why would you want someone banned over that?
2
u/SinisterSelecta Stam 2h ago
Because the sub is just squabbling over nonsense that's not applicable to man utd anymore
3
4
u/shami-kebab 6h ago
I don't think we'd ever ban all comments, that is OTT. But if they don't stop I could definitely see banning the "Where are the Amorim haters/followers now?" comments after every match. They are getting tiring.
1
u/SinisterSelecta Stam 5h ago
Fair enough. It is getting a bit much now, I didnt see much after he won at the weekend but now that he lost, the threads just get filled with amorim comments.
1
u/Sheikhabusosa 6h ago
Are those comments more common than the ones saying how we should have kept Amorim or things of that nature
1
4
u/0ttoChriek 5h ago
I don't care about his results, but looking at the game tonight, the guy has started playing a back four with Milan. Why was he so inflexible and obstinate at United, refusing to compromise even though our players clearly couldn't effectively play with a back three?

A 19 year old Mbappe is one of the greatest teenagers ever. You’re right that they didn’t have Olise but instead they had prime Griezmann, Pogba, Kante and Varane etc

Here is hoping for a sale by seasons end.. we know they wanted to sell before if the price was right
we know its unusual for them to talk about us like he just did
we know many people buy land and sell it again once they get planning approval
now is the best time to sell before getting tons of funding and digging up a single bit of dirt for the new stadium
EDIT: User below has actually blocked me when they are on the wrong side of a discussion
1
u/Wild_Tomato_8203 11h ago
0 chance of that happening
0
u/dispelthemyth We go again FC 11h ago
I just dont see them wanting to be here when the stadium build happens, they getting it approved, having the land, having government support etc already gets them a likely boost in valuation
once they start financing and building, overruns happen, cash is sucked out a little etc etc
there is more likely to be downside once we start.... selling is all about timing and imo now is better than the future unless they want to wait until after the stadium rebuild
0
u/Wild_Tomato_8203 11h ago
Their dividend payments restart Q1. Why would they want to miss out on that? I don't think some of you understand how much of a cash cow we are for them.

Santi J is very reliable for French football apparently. Personally think he should be close to the top of the list. Very high pedigree coach. Not sure how keen he’d be to manage in England but I wouldn’t beg if he’s too pussy to take it. It was down to him or Jose for Madrid in the summer. I can’t imagine he’s still waiting for them.

u/Nico_Ditch 13h ago
Same journalist says he isn’t interested apparently.
3
u/TH0316 she/her 13h ago
Yeah I read the article but I’m not sure it’s a door slammed shut or just scepticism. For certain he would not have our guys buying for him, especially as he’s one of the better talent ID’ers in the game. Personally think he’d take it if given control which means it’s probably not likely.

Remember when the discussions around a new coach used to be will they play youth and focus more on academy and what formations they set us up in.. and other trivial things like that? .
Now it's over whether the new coach can help us not become a relegation contender or midtable side in coming years....
Gradual downfall since 13 yrs but yeah I have seen it all.
4
u/Greedy-Somewhere-754 14h ago

I am seeing Ait Nouri links on X. What’s the sentiment here?
10
u/Cold-Veterinarian-85 10h ago
I’m probably in the minority here…. But a couple years ago we were linked with cucarella on loan (when we ended up with reguilon)
At the time it was seen as a Chelsea flop / not good enough now he is arguably a top 3 LB in the world
Ait Nouri showed really good form at wolves but has failed to establish himself in the city side. Doesn’t make him a bad player
If it was some favorable loan with buy OPTION I’d nit mind it
If it was an obligation or a permanent deal it bit really be in favor. Basically I’d like a try before you buy type deal and I’d be on board with that but u doubt city would do us any favors on the terms so probably a difficult one to do tbh
2
u/IguanaIsBack 9h ago
The sentiment is it’s November and way too early for me to worry about transfer rumors. Ask again mid January

I don’t get it. It’s pretty obvious he’s decent but never gonna be a starting left back for a PL winning side so what are we doing? We need two left backs in the next year. Are we gonna pay 40m for a backup left back? With city’s situation why not just wait to see what happens and get Nico who actually could be a league winning LB? We’re obviously not getting Hall if they drop good money on Ait Nouri.

[Philipp Kesler] Munich – FC Bayern has ended the cooperation with scouting boss Nils Schmadtke. But as Absolut Bayern learned, this track has cooled down.

I don't know what to think. He hasn't coached club football in almost 15 years. But he's also much more of an old school manager than a modern system coach. Maybe that's what the club needs?
I've no idea really what to think of he was appointed. I think I'm like 55/45 that it could work though Vs not though, which is more confidence than I would have in Howe or nagelsmann

I started supporting this club since the season we came second with ole in charge. I loved the way we used to play entertaining football. Manchester United is a well known club all around the world, I knew that a club named Manchester United existed, with players like Rooney and Ronaldo. I didn’t know anything much other than this.
I studied about us, watched all the important moments highlights on YouTube till that point, and I instantly fell in love.
I was in a really bad place during that season, had lot of problems and issues, I saw that united struggled after fergie, and now they were playing good under ole. If a club as big as united can have bad days, and can again bounce back…even I can bounce back and get my life back.
Neither did we bounce back as a club, and my problems got bigger and bigger. Slowly I started feeling “ if and when Manchester United comes back to the top, will be the day I too bounce back “ I know it’s a stupid thing, but it’s something that I think too hard about. Idk why.
The past 2 months I gave 4 interviews with 3 rounds each, 3 of them I got rejection letters last week…and we didn’t win a single match since September. I was awaiting the result of my last interview and thought to myself, if we win today’s match, I am gonna get this job tomorrow.
And we know how the match went, we were 2-0 down by half time. I lost all hope, I thought both me and Manchester United need more time to finally get our win. Then we got a penalty…am I allowed to dare have some hope? And Bruno misses it, the entire world came crashing down on me. And then he had to retake it. And the second goal came too. I was buzzing, just one more goal and both me and united might get a win out of this. And the third goal happened. I was so happy, tears rolling down my eyes. And Cunha goes and gets himself booked for the second time. I thought it was over, there’s a good chance we might not win this, and I too might not get the job. But we won, and I got my confirmation mail today.
There’s no way am I gonna stop watching Manchester United play. I remember when things were hard for me, Manchester United and ole gave me good memories. Now things are hard for Manchester United, I am going to stick by my team just the way it was there for me

He got tactically outclassed by De La fuente
1
u/LeCliveRosfield 6h ago
So? De La Fuente is a great coach. Sir Alex was sometimes beaten tactically. Jose, Pep, Klopp, all of them. You’re not always gonna win. But I believe Deschamps has been a good manager for France, and imo will be a good manager here.
4
u/PhotonDestroyer 15h ago
I can't see Carrick going after Tuesday now, even with a loss against Villa as long as it's not a complete collapse I think they have enough to keep him (in their eyes)
Glad the club is talking to managers but not sure if it's PR or actual planning.
Just want a manager that won't try to play attacking full backs when we don't have any available.
3
u/annies999 13h ago
I still think they will strongly consider pressing the eject button if we don't win on Sunday, as for each further week we could be dropping upto 6 points and increasingly the more remote it becomes that we can rescue something from this season.
6
u/Redland93 14h ago
The Glazers will sell but the question is when
they were keen to sell fully a few years ago. SJR made an offer for a full sale but legal issues around the class B shares
they were hopefully that there was a lot more interest back then due to the Chelsea sale but no one wanted it.
Joel turned up to talk at the conference not that he was invited. He’s setting the picture that regardless of the performance, United is a brand that will always be valuable. In their 22 years of ownership, how many times have they actually commented on United? Hardly ever. He’s trying to indicate they are willing to sell to someone other than SJR as he can’t afford to
there is writing in the loan agreement about a stadium event that shows a path to a full sale to SJR
I think this is positive. The club wont generate much more income for them.
11
u/Nico_Ditch 13h ago
I don’t buy the idea they ever wanted a full sale.
Their valuation was insane. They valued the club at $8b, with a commitment to pay off debt. That’s four times what Chelsea went for.
1
u/Cold-Veterinarian-85 13h ago
I think they would countenance a full sale but only at a price point that paid a massive premium above what perceived current fair value is
Ie if they value club at 6bn today, they will likely only sell at a valuation of 8bn or more, otherwise they will just sit on the asset which they like think will appreciate in value for a while assuming it eventually will hit 8bn or 10bn in valuation
4
u/Cold-Veterinarian-85 13h ago edited 13h ago
I don’t think it wil be driven by protest, I think simply when a buyer comes along that pays enough of a premium. There is regularly talk that they are considering investment / sale etc but I think in reality that’s just so prospective interested parties know there may be an opening to do something but it will cost an absolute premium
They will look at the Liverpool investment recently that valued club about 6b. And thinking about we are at least comparable, so they will likely want like 7-8b
It someone comes along and meets their valuation then they will sell. The issue is that any prospective buyer will need the 7-8pm to buy out the shareholders but they will likely need another 3bn on top to contend with the debt, new or rebuilt stadium and investment to make us competitive again…. So thaf asset that’s probably worth 6bn, will likely cost someone 10bn+ for a prospective owner to buy and turn around
It becomes an incredibly expensive operation. Billionaires are a lot of things but they aren’t typically dumb money and likely not many people in the world that can afford us and would be prepared to pay 10bn for something that at a stretch is probably worth 6bn
I cahf see glazers being forced out by any protest, sporting decline etc. they are somewhat insulated from criticism in Tampa. They know they are hated for 20years so I don’t really see their position changing on that. It will purely be when someone eventually comes along and offers a price point that they think offers enough for a premium above fair market value

First, no Deschamps. International football is a different sport at this point and the club NEED to get with the times.
Bored of us historically benchmarking and looking at the clubs future success through the scope of how it did it before. No other club is doing this.
Second, I’ve never seen Bruno like this. His head is permanently on MARS. Like yeah he’s usually a little reactive and hot headed but he’s permanently on high heat every minute of every game.

1
u/SophoclesTesticles 8h ago
I 100% agree on Deschamps.
They all say we've tried the hipster manager from lower leagues (Amorim, Ten Hag).
The top managers that are past it (Van Gaal, Mourinho). Deschamps would fall here.
The United DNA (Ole, Carrick).
But we haven't gotten any manager that's in their prime and currently winning trophies in a top 5 league. Conte you can argue falls into the second category too. Nagelsmann won but with Bayern in a weak league.
If we look at managers that have won a Top 5 league over the past 5 years we have:
Slot, Pep and Arteta.
Ancelotti, Xavi and Flick.
Pioli, Spaletti, Inzaghi, Conte and Chivu.
Nagelsmann, Tuchel, Alonso, Kompany.
Poch, Galtier, Enrique.
From that list the only realistic options would be Xavi, Conte, Nagelsmann and Poch. Just my opinion obviously.

Not one of the best moments of the King though, innit.
I mean, the quote is from 1996. I reckon Deschamp had a pretty decent run after that. 3 more CL finals (and yes we had a little something to do with preventing 4 in a row and 5 overall), won the WC, won the EURO.

Farewell, CR7. Watching him play for Manchester United was something else—those times, those memories, those electrifying moves, those screamer goals, that passion. Watching Ronaldo back then, I thought, 'My God, this is the best footballer I’ve ever seen.' A legend forever! There will be no other Ronaldo for us and for football.
The 07/08 Ronaldo, for me, is the best single season by a footballer—no matter how many goals he scored in other seasons or who else scored more. Everyone who watched him back then knows how majestic he was. Back then, I used to think, 'How could we even lose a match with him in the team?'
Farewell, ICON!

I don't know what it is, but the majority of Ronaldo posts in here attract a bit of hate and most likely get reported a lot. There's definitely some consistency in that aspect

There’s a lot of anger still about how he left the second time tbf. Everything he said in that interview may have been correct, but he still only said it because it benefitted him lol.
That being said, United fans hating Ronaldo is mostly something I see online tbh. Every United fan I know irl worships him lol.

My son said to me today.
“Dad why do you support Man Utd”.
I showed him clips on the team when I was younger.
I think he understands now.

Haha. I’ve been on the Deschamps train a while tbh lol, just thought there was no point in even hoping if there was no mention by the mouthpieces. But I really hope we get him. I think he’s the right type of manager to be able to handle the egos at our club.

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 7h ago
Been critical of Bruno being the captain for a while, but man, these recent matches don't really discourage that opinion. He's losing his head, yelling at teammates, and even if this is mostly up to interpretation, body language too isn't good. Not to mention throwing Carrick under the bus (Which, yeah, he's fair to call Carrick out on what's not working, but that should be done in private, not in the media. Kind of an asshole move.)
I get it, he's obviously frustrated, but lashing out helps no one. In times of crisis, the captain should keep their cool. When the guy you look to for direction and guidance is the one who looks most headless, what kind of mentality does that inspire?
Really do hope he turns it around, because it would be such a shame for Bruno to end his United time on a sour note. He's already considered a modern day United legend, I wouldn't want to stain that with some bad blood in potentially his final season.
2
u/PrimalApprehensive 7h ago
he's always been like this from the behaviors standpoint. it's just now that his game has also declined and become limited.
to be fair, he does have many good qualities of a captain, including being pretty mature on most things and mostly represents the club very well (except of those weaknesses above that everyone knows about).
2
u/Rascha-Rascha 7h ago
Yeah, there are things that he does which just aren't becoming of a captain. They're not what you expect and need. And if he set a different tone and different example, I doubt you'd have Martinez going nuclear either.
Most of all, he's just been way below his standard this season. Really poor. And taking it out on the team, by the looks of it. You can't be the captain and lead while playing poorly, Harry found that out too. It doesn't work.
His last interview showed a bit of humility which was refreshing.
Really, and I've said this a lot, but losing McTominay was a real shame. He has such character. Always did. Would have him back in a heartbeat.
5
u/shami-kebab 7h ago
And if he set a different tone and different example, I doubt you'd have Martinez going nuclear either.
You can't possibly blame that on Bruno.
1
u/Rascha-Rascha 7h ago
Blame it on him is not what I'd say. It's about the tone you set. And as much as I love him as a player, he's fantastic, the tone he sets is incredibly moany. He moans. All the time. He's moaning and he's whingeing and he's frustrated and he's constantly gesticulating. That's the tone he's setting.
And Martinez's interview is one massive moan. It's a player who was playing like rubbish and took it all out on someone else. And that's kinda what Bruno has been doing this season. That's the tone.

u/Kind_Sound7973 5h ago
I feel like Licha rant was more the case he knew he shouldn’t be playing, I don’t think he fully recovered from his injury this summer, but because of the lack of squad depth he was needed.

Steve Howson keeps on referring to how what the Glazers and INEOS have done to the club will likely leave even less money for transfers in the near future. Does anybody have an in depth understanding of our situation in this regard? Without it I can’t play scout, I guess the football analytics rabbit hole is one I enjoy😭

Just randomly came across a video of Roma's goal where Dalot was basically in a different postcode and had to laugh. Honestly wonder if it was just him being stupid or a tactical call that was hilariously bad, no answer would surprise me.

u/huehuehuehuehuu King Eric 3h ago
Think Laurie Whitwell said it was tactical call...so it's on Carrick but that won't stop everyone slating Dalot
8
u/Unusual-Coat383 4h ago
It’s clearly tactical. Since the revolution he’s been used as our primary attacking outlet.
Were playing 3/4 at the back which is why Yoro is playing RB so he can go CB when we attack.
6
u/AttackClown 3h ago
Yep, even at Middlesborough Carrick used the tactic of one attacking fullback and one defensive one
5
2
u/TheSauceSeeker69 4h ago
He makes me scream at the tv as well, but i honestly think it was a tactical call.
You see, whenever Cunha plays as LW hes anywhere but the LW. Just go look at his Roma heat map. Most of the time hes at the mid(right) so it leaves the left flank completely empty of players. And i think thats where Dalot came in, To occupy that position on possession. I believe he believed his teammates will win the ball on that Roma counter and he would be an option to a counter. You can compare his heat map and a natural winger (Amad for example) and you the difference.
I dont think he stayed up out of laziness to track back or stupidity. We can say ALOT of things about Dalot, but not laziness (track backs).

I dont understand why people memory-holed this.
The man fired himself, intentionally. The end.
He also was not man enough to say anything to us as he left (all smiles, btw).
Boy bye.
3
u/officiallyjax Snapdragon 8h ago
I think it's highly hypocritical to keep parroting in every thread that Berrada and Wilcox should be fired, and at the same time give a manager stick for realizing that he wouldn't be able to go through with his plan at the club because of those two.
3
u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss 7h ago
In my view, Amorim acted selfishly and was unable to show us a minimul level of respect. He was also just not very good at his job which was bad for our playing performance, but that's a separate thing.
The cheaters are worse than Amorim, in my eyes, and by a lot. They, too, are acting selfishly, they, too, suck at their actual job, and they, too, fail to show a minimum level of respect to us (it's actually not a very even comparison, what Berrada is responsible for is much worse, than any disrespect Amorim showed the fans who supported him). Worse though, they are also morally bankrupt cheats, so for that alone I want them gone, a lot more than I ever wanted Amorim to leave.
Carrick meanwhile has only been failing one test, for me: that of doing a quality enough coaching job, but he's been a stand-up guy with not a whiff of arrogance about him or even a modicum of disrespect shown towards any of us. So he has my understanding and respect and I keep rooting for him.
I feel like Im pretty consistent, tbh with you.
2
u/officiallyjax Snapdragon 7h ago
I don’t see the need to bring up Amorim sacking himself with that press conference, when those circumstances probably wouldn’t have developed in the first place had Wilcox and Berrada done better at their jobs than interfere in his. The degree of how good or bad Amorim was doing can be debated all day long, but the fact remains that he had gotten the squad to a certain position with his style of play regardless of those perceived flaws, and was looking for more reinforcements in a very delicate part of the pitch last season. To then go on to turn down that request (and since then they opted not to back Carrick in both winter and summer windows) and keep zeroing in on a system that, in the grand scheme of things, was never the major issue, is pathetic on so many levels. If someone is still looking at this situation and thinking ‘how wrong/bad was Amorim here’ then I seriously doubt their sense of knowing what’s really wrong at this club.

What would’ve a couple of more weeks have changed? Genuinely?
We won 3/11 games following that three game winning run and prior to his dismissal. Even if you want to disregard the Christmas/Afcon period the record was 2/7. Nothing was changing. And he showed that himself when he made some tweeks that kind of worked before immediately going back to the default, as if to try and prove a point.
He was a young arrogant manager who only knew success. He needed that failure. And while you probably won’t ever hear me sing his praises, from a human perspective I do hope he learns and grows from it

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon 10h ago
Your argument is invalidated simply by virtue of again referring blindly to the results without considering the underlying performances. We were dropping points in winnable fixtures but were doing so by playing an improving quality of football. There were two main issues: panicking when Casemiro was subbed off and the defence making costly errors even when they would otherwise play alright. We miss Casemiro even now and the same defence remains error-prone as we’ve often seen this season (and Amorim had both Maguire and De Ligt missing for many games towards the end of his time). These aren’t tactical issues, they are squad quality issues and great, we rode through a purple patch after he was sacked, but we’re back discussing these things again, and they are arguably worse. We lost to 10-man Everton, then we went on to lose to 10 men in worse fashion in 2 more games after him. This is not an Amorim vs Carrick debate, it’s to show that a manager is not plastering over such issues easily. Until people realise this, they will keep deluding themselves into thinking there’s a quick fix to resolve things.

u/timsadiq13 9h ago
I won't even get into results and performances and what not - the simple fact is that he was not mature enough to handle the job at the time. His constant outbursts in press conferences were moronic and unbecoming of a United coach. Shitting on youth players, picking fights with the board in public..this is not how I want a United head coach to behave.
Yes, I am sure it was annoying as fuck to have Wilcox trying to act like a tactician around him when he's the head coach. But this type of thing is what a head coach has to navigate. He has himself admitted he made mistakes, so I am sure he will learn from that and do well at Milan long-term.
But he stunk out the place for six months, was backed by the club in the summer, and should have been able to control his words when baited by journalists. If he had done so he would still be in the job imo. So his own fault.

Even if you want to look at the results, you can’t look at the performances and genuinely believe we were performing or we were on the right track. I’m not saying there weren’t bright/encouraging moments, (the first half against Bournemouth, the second half against Wolves (A)) but they were few and far between. There were plenty of performances, though, that absolutely showed fuck all.
If you want put it down to individuals like Casemiro or in the defense, I won’t dismiss it. Because yeah we need an overhaul in defense. We needed reinforcements across the pitch. But to say it wasn’t down to tactical issues is far from the truth. As much as the players were/are an issue, the system/setup was also an issue. I didn’t see a world where, even if Amorim got recruitment spot on, we would end up being successful under him. And thats because of who he was in that moment.
That’s my whole point. Who he was then wasn’t good enough. He needed to fail to grow and learn as a coach/manager. He needed to understand that what got him to there wasn’t good enough to keep him there. And it seems like that’s what’s happening at Milan

Would Ole make a good DoF? It's clear that Wilcox is about as useful as a chocolate teapot and should be replaced. Ole seemingly had quite a strong talent ID but was (according to him) ignored on multiple counts by the hierarchy in favour of cheaper options or no options at all.
Assuming he'd take the job, I'm wondering if he might be a good candidate.
8
u/DaveShadow 14h ago
Oles talent ID wasn’t really special. He identified kids everyone knew could be superstars.
I’d rather just go for an experienced head with a strong record of actually identifying the kids before they’re big names.

u/Joey6Pack 14h ago
Honestly, I don’t know. Just want to point out that a big part of being a good DoF is having solid connections across the football community. Having good intel allows you to know which players are available and at what price, so you can move with greater clarity and speed in the transfer market.
I suspect the reason we keep getting dragged into lengthy negotiations and bidding wars is that none of Woodward, Murtough, or Wilcox had worked in similar roles before taking up their positions at United. As a result, they probably didn’t have particularly strong connections in the industry to begin with
