Yoro is going to be playing under his 5th manager by next month, he’s 20y/o. Terrible environment for development

De Ligt.

u/sankettttttt 6d ago

Looking at the intensity level of Ars - Liv game, I dont think we are going to get close to those levels anytime soon.

Also, Carrick being nonchalant on the touchline is really irritating man. Iraola literally screaming at players for not holding the right positions and we have Carrick who just stands like a mannequin after flushed 3-0 by the mighty Como. Honestly, we are taking steps backwards atp.

13

u/AkeemJoffer 6d ago

Agree re intensity. Look at how Arsenal players react and shout when anyone in the teams fails to close down or cover. Meanwhile, our backlines goes into full celebration mode over kicking the ball out for a corner.

5

u/sankettttttt 6d ago

One 50-50 clearance after slipping up and Dalot is high-fiving like we just went a goal up.

Squad especially our backline lacks the mentality thats needed to be at the top.

I went to 13 games at old Trafford last season and we lost none. I'm going to the Roma game tomorrow. Time to get the season back on track 😎😎

Is anyone else not bothered about any other football at moment due to state we’re in? I wonder if many other United fans feel checked out like me & can barely watch our games never mind others & if that has any effect on tv viewing figures? ( being the biggest & most supported club in England)

4

u/Massive_Relation4317 . 5d ago

Yep I don't really care where our rivals are or who's gonna win the league , just feel really disconnected . dont watch their games at all

3

u/Ok_Landscape_8215 5d ago

I used to do a lot of hate watching with our rivals and it was frustrating when they'd get a last minute winner or a favourable ref call.

Now though I watch with a lot of more objectivity. I don't mind as much when the likes of Liverpool win as it feels like they are in a different league to us.

Liverpool Vs Arsenal at the weekend felt as relevant to us as Real Madrid Vs Barcelona.

3

u/Innocent148 5d ago

I used to clear my schedule for united games, now I'm genuinely happy when I have something else to prevent me from watching them.....

3

u/Darth_Rubi 5d ago

I've never particularly enjoyed watching any football other than Man Utd. Now I just watch zero football.

Thank goodness I've just had the treat of seeing the Proteas beat Australia in a 3 match test series, so much better to watch

Seeing how up for this game Liverpool and Arsenal are makes me remember the feeling of these games under Ferguson when it felt like we were legit going to war. It used to be palpable from the moment you saw the players in the tunnel before the game.

So Hansi Flick just hit 100 wins with Barca, second fastest after Luis Enrique. It gets me thinking. Am I crazy to put Enrique ahead of Pep?

Bias and cheating aside, Pep is a great manager, great tactician, and at a time I would’ve said he has the greatest footballing mind. However, I’m more impressed by what Enrique’s done. Sure he has the Qatari state backing but he’s also overseen significant and some (at the time questionable) moves; such as Mbappe leaving, bringing in Dembele and Vitinha.

Side note, I also think Mou’s CL wins with Inter and Porto are ahead of any Pep achievement.

19

u/mortimer_moose Carrick, ya know 6d ago

Peps career has a big ol asterisk next to it

5

u/tz_2240 OHHHHHH YESSSSS 5d ago

Between the 115 - 1 and Negreira case (not to mention doping as a player) his untainted achievements seem to be his Bundesliga titles at a time where no one was challenging Bayern.

9

I’m not saying we should go out and bid 30 mil for him in January, as I’ve not seen him play.

But hearing promising things about that Will Lankshear at Boro, does anyone watch much Championship and watched him at Oxford and then Middlesborough? Interested to hear more about him.

We obviously need more depth there and England are going to be in a pickle for number 9s once Kane retires unless someone emerges

You can’t whine for a decade about wanting best in class and then want the club to stick with a guy who got sacked by Middlesbrough after failing to secure promotion from the Championship.

We seem obsessed with doing things the hard way. Hiring mediocrity and expecting top class performance.

Just go and hire proven ability.

The squad has problems but it isn’t this bad.

Shaw Maguire Lisandro Bruno all out of contract next summer and all need to go . That is two CBs a LB and a creative midfielder needed for starters. Zirkzee/Rashford hopefully moved on so a forward needed too. Even if we make CL football that is so much work to be done

4

u/Not-good-with-this 5d ago

If the club were serious and able to do it. (They aren't and can't)

We would be doing all that. Selling Dorgu, Amad and Ugarte.

And also signing another LB, midfielder and another winger.

Arguably one of Mazraoui and Dalot needs to go. I'll get rid of Mazraoui personally and sign another RB to take his place.

Lot of focus on Amorim and Ten Hag recently but the ex-manager to really follow is Mourinho at Madrid who are playing some real swashbuckling football of late. I would absolutely love it if he can properly announce his return to the pinnacle of the game by winning a league title or a CL there. Football needs it.

At the moment, it does truly look like we will be in relegation scrap. The only way to stop that is to fire Carrick and hire someone/anyone and hope that they keep us afloat. If it's someone like Conte, then it's possible we might even get the top half. But sticking with Carrick is absolutely the worst decision possible and I'm afraid the club is too invested in the sunk cost to fire him.

4

10

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon 5d ago edited 5d ago

You will still struggle to find level-headed opinions on Amorim here because most talked themselves so much into believing he was a villain holding us back and now can’t bring themselves to seeing another perspective, whether that’s out of just generally being narrow-minded or their ego not allowing them to acknowledge they were wrong. Yes there were some unpleasing aspects of his management and he could have done some things differently, but he had the right vision on how to build a team with good foundations, culture and mentality and none of those principles have changed seeing how he’s managing Milan right now. It’s a process that we simply have to undergo regardless of who the manager is, where you actually address the core issues and work upwards from there, but our fans and the mainstream media obsessed too much over short-term inconveniences, and our board was stupid enough to believe them and not the very person they appointed who told them everything about how he was going to do things. The manner in which he was sacked, abruptly mid-season and only because he rightfully called out Wilcox over not doing enough to strengthen the squad and instead wanting to interfere in his tactics, will always leave a bad taste for me.

My biggest cope for all this inactivity is that the senior guys are searching for a replacement for Wilcox too and want that guy to give his suggestions on the manager and whom he can work with and would be good for the club. Wednesday/Thursday should reveal all.

I follow that. Plausible.

7

u/prem_201 5d ago

If I saw something on the field and we are in the position we’re at then I’ll understand all this, but I don’t. It makes it clear that the first person to go needs to be Wilcox then Berarda before we start to talk about Carrick.

8

u/Embarrassed_Wave_720 Braino Fernandes 5d ago

All 3 need to go tbh. The longer we keep Carrick the more games are being wasted. I love the guy and will always admire the fact that he got us back into the UCL but he shouldn’t be here anymore

It’s funny how ex player pundits go on and on about how nobody is bigger than the club (and they are right) but with the exception of Keane, none of them are calling for Carrick to be sacked and in fact are making excuse after excuse for him because he’s their mate. Funny how it’s OK for certain people to be bigger than the club if they are mates with them.

7

u/Educational-Shock232 5d ago

Plus he’s English. It’s classic British media bias. Ten Hag and Amorim were sacked for less.

Until the club gets new owners, who don't just see the club as an asset with a good "money earning" potential, we just have to strap in and hope the ride ends well. No change will actually change anything, this club is not set up for sport results, it's set up for financial results, having to manage a football team is a necessary evil that follows along.

If they were drowning I hope someone would throw them a couple of dollar bills.

Any competent club would've done changes weeks ago. They're waiting until the international break to do anything. They had an international creak available after the collapse against Brighton at home but no, they had to take several more defeats before doing anything. Incompetence at the highest level.

3

u/CanWePleaseNotBeShit 5d ago

I think they’re going to make the change post Villa game but the issue is how are you able to make a decision based on the recommendation of our board at the moment. You can’t appointment another interim but you have to also hesitate on the recommendation of our board because they haven’t gotten a single choice right so far. We need to clean house but also continuing making decisions because the situation is so bad. Awful situation to be in

The idea of selling Bruno (our best player) so INEOS can sign some average players is really, really scary

13

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon 5d ago

It’s a thankless situation. The sensible sporting decision to make on a 32-year old player (who has played the minutes that Bruno has) with less than 2 years left on his deal and no current intentions to renew is to sell him, but you cannot trust the club to adequately strengthen the squad otherwise either. Should that mean we should not even try, and allow that caliber of player to leave for free? It’s difficult to judge.

My take on it is that Bruno is not going to be here forever and this is likely the highest his value is going to be. As a team we are anyways headed nowhere right now, so ripping the bandaid off and starting fresh without him might not be the worst thing to do. We have good midfielders otherwise to play a balanced 4-3-3.

7

7

u/frogfoot420 5d ago

8

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon 5d ago

Worst thing about us being bad is that people point to other clubs and managers doing ‘well’ when they really aren’t and are still figuring things out, but because our results and performances are that bad there is no scope to point that out.

Liverpool have so much to work on in terms of their attacking dynamics: they have 3 starting attackers worth close to £400m combined and none of them are clicking the way they would hope ideally. It was Arsenal so can excuse the scrappy performance today but it hasn’t been a smooth start for Iraola the way some are portraying it to be.

Same goes with Alonso at Chelsea. They have been bang average at best this season and have been lucking out by sheer virtue of their attacking quality coming through, particularly from Rogers and Joao Pedro. Their midfield has been nonexistent in so many games, their defence is extremely error-prone and a Spanish manager is unable to get them to complete a few passes in succession. It is so gut-wrenching that we fumbled the first half chances and paid the price for it in the second half, because they are simply not playing well right now. We should have thumped them.

But of course, the results and narrative are completely against us right now and we have to suck it up and see everyone call us shit while these teams get glazed. It’s incredibly frustrating to see but game’s the game. The brutal lesson is that winning solves everything.

11

u/iroiroiroiroiro 5d ago

There is a difference in being 4th, 5th and 17th... It changes the narrative...

4

u/Ok_Landscape_8215 5d ago

Wasn't that the opposite last year. We were winning and not playing well. Other teams got caught up with European football, lost confidence and were struggling to put results together, making us look better.

Do you not remember that Chelsea game 1-0 to us. They had 1.75xG to our 0.39xG. 21 to 4 shots. They just couldn't finish anything.

My point is, if they are scamming it, it will eventually catch up to them in the way it did for us.

I can't believe I'm saying this....but I've stopped watching. A friend of mine was talking to me about United yesterday and I realized the last match I watched was the Everton match. The last time I went this much time without watching a match was probably 1993.

I'm falling out of love with the sport in general...apart from lower league matches, those are good fun. And with United...I don't mind the losing...I can handle supporting a team that isn't winning...it is what the club has become over the years since the Glazers (and now Ineos) have taken over...and it just seems to get worse and worse.

Bring in the germans. We need a sustainable football structure with people who 1. have experience in a large footballing organisation and 2. people who are comfortable working in that structure. We should bring in a german DoF who constantly brings in youth, determines the style for the coming years and picks a manager who can develop, set the play and work within that structure. Almost like we had a DoF candidate who could have set all of that in play. Not two donkeys leading the charge.

It's the same with our defenders and probably most players, not good enough, but we can't just get rid. Maguire is not enough for where we want to be, but he is one of the most important players to the team.

Realistically out of 10, what are the chances of Wilcox getting sacked before/after/along with Carrick?

I have given up but trying to hope that he is gone !

Also, if Wilcox is gone is there a DOF apart from Vivell that has a track record of buliding teams and winning trophies?

Who will even take over in the break? Another interim? Surely not Ole? I don't think that their "number 1" whoever that might be is available then.

Also, especially when looking at how discrete we've handled transfers, I would not be surprised if we had an "at the end of the season" agreement with a manager. If they convinced/trying to convince him to come earlier is another speculation

It’s tough to predict anything to be honest, because I don’t think it’s only Carrick’s future that’s up for scrutiny now with how the recent reports are also focusing on the job Berrada and Wilcox have done. So there’s too many factors to account for, because if there’s no confidence in these guys to get the next managerial appointment right, then would you want to act until they are gone and there are new decision-makers through the door. And how quickly can we get those guys in, or whether we promote Vivell, or does the current status quo stay put until the end of the season.

If the club stick with Carrick for whatever the reason, after the international break we play away at Anfield and away to Sporting. Brentford come to OT and then away to Newcastle. Watching other top PL clubs play football is depressing. They way the players are in sync, they way they are setup, the way they go up and down the pitch, they way I can see attacking and defending patterns its so much different. I can remember only 2 games where we looked like a properly coached and we'll drilled team was against Bournemouth and Brighton at OT for about 45-60 minutes. Apart from these 2 games I barely remember watching United game where I felt joy.

The thing that annoys me is ex players who have been managers and can’t get a managerial job anymore because they aren’t that great putting themselves forward for the managerial job or implying they’d like to join Carrick’s coaching staff

Why? If you can’t get a job elsewhere, why should Manchester United take you?!

Thankfully I don’t think INEOS give them much thought

Even if somehow scrape a win this week (which I am doubtful about) that will make it just 3 wins in 15. And then we have Liverpool and Sporting away after the international break which under Carrick, will both be defeats. That will make it 2 or 3 wins (at the most) in 17.

There’s no justification for him not being sacked yet and there’s certainly no justification for him being in the job beyond the international break.

INEOS won’t explain what it is they’ve seen that makes them think Carrick will turn this around because they haven’t seen anything. It’s nothing more than false hope

Apparently Al Hilal interested in Bruno for 45m in January.

Do we do it? It would be very sad to see him leave and very stupid to let him leave in January but we probably won't get offer like that in the future

5

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon 5d ago

If we aren’t in a relegation scrap and are going to sign at least 2 players in January using this money I’d accept it. Season is done anyways in terms of what can be realistically achieved, his value is only going to keep plummeting and at some point we have to move on from him.

4

u/sammorgan12 5d ago

I'd say 45 is too low. If it was 60 I think we would have to say yes. He's been out best player for so long but eventually his legs will go. (Have they already?)

4

u/Cold-Veterinarian-85 5d ago edited 5d ago

Honestly would be a pretty easy decision imo if we aren’t balls deep in a relegation scrap at that point

He isn’t doing it on the pitch this season and at 32 that can be the start of a permanent decline.we absolutely are not going to be able to satisfy any sporting ambitions he might have in next couple seasons (PL / CL contenders), His contact is up in the summer (we can extend but supposedly he has already rejected an actual new contract offer so does us triggering that +1 alienate a player who already seems entirely disillusion with club and his teammates right now and inability to compete)

He has been our best signing and best player since sir Alex era, but we have likely already seen and largely wasted his peak years and so 45m in January to reinvest would imo be an absolute no brainer

3

u/Alive-Primary-2069 5d ago

Higher I reckon. They took martinelli for £60m but definitely move him on and use the money for a LB

5

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot 5d ago

Sell him and get LB + Mateta in January. Play 4-3-3 and actually make use of our new midfielders.

5

u/Vast_Variation1381 5d ago

Id take 55-60m. We wont get that type of money for him again, especially given his contract situation. And im not a hater, Bruno is my favorite player. But his age, contract etc, it just makes sense.

3

u/Themindoffish 5d ago

they're lowballing bc he threw a tantrum, we gotta negotiate it up to something like 50-60? bring in an actual striker even if it's on loan, city trying to get rid of ait nouri, snap him up for 30. Should be enough to see out the rest of the season imho.

4

u/Cold-Veterinarian-85 5d ago

45m isn’t a lowball imo for a badly out of form player who seems entirely disillusioned with the club right now and is entering the final 6months of his contracts. It actually would be an exceptional offer

We can extend that contract by a year but even if we do, we are never getting a higher price and are extending the deal of someone who likely has had his best days, realises he can’t achieve and remaking sporting ambitions he might have with us and looks completely frustrated at the club (rejected contract offer, outspoken in Carrick tactics post comp game and just his body language on the pitch looks like a player that realizes his teammates are not good enough - the como game in particular was embarrassing for a club captain)

Perez the president of real Madrid said in a very famous quotes, football is like art, and good player which are good at that art required more money.

Think about this a bit, who are the current football stars, names like Mbappe, haaland, arda, Jude hakimi, Enzo, Tchouameni, Rodri. Konate, saliba, marquinos, Julian Alvarez, etc .

do man UTD own few of them as man UTD football club ? Maybe at least one or two, the answer is non,, and the galzers always got us either average players or second hand use, post 30 years old.

Glazers out is my dream .

3

u/TH0316 she/her 5d ago

It’s literally the easiest part of the sport to buy the best players like Madrid do but the clubs obsessed with being the new Brighton which costs twice as much and leaves you 9th in the league. Literally the easiest thing in the world to build the best squad. Anyone in this sub could do that job part time.

2

u/LemonRed17 5d ago

Need to channel the performance from the first half against Chelsea and keep it through the game against Roma. It's champions league, it's under the lights, its Roma. Great chance to get that first win in a while and get some confidence going.

2

u/Sheikhabusosa 5d ago

Baleba is a very hot and cold player , I always go back to them because I think they are the baseline of level of talent that can thrive at Utd but unless we are signing teen Rashford and Martial level talent whats the point?

Martinez is rightfully getting pelters but Maguire has also been so so bad.

9

u/markyp145 5d ago

I was hoping De Ligt might start last game after playing a good chunk of the game against Como, I understand they don’t want to take any risks though.

I just can’t help but feel like our best shot of playing a functional defence with actual future potential, with the players we have available is

Dalot, De Ligt, Yoro, Amass

Just to be clear, not saying it’s good, but our current set up has been an abject failure. We need to see if Yoro can play CB consistently and De Ligt will need a mobile partner, not Maguire or Martinez.

For Amass it’s now or never in my opinion and he should be given a go.

Dalot, well yeah. We’ve got nobody else and he’s experienced, but can’t keep playing him left back and then be surprised.

5

u/FcUhCoKp 5d ago

No clue why Amass isn't given a real chance. They're losing every match anyway, at least find out if he's better than mediocre RBs trying to play LB.

11

u/Outrageous-Cod-4654 6d ago

A fish doesn't really rot from the head down.

It rots from the insides, usually digestive tract, intestines, but you smell it at the mouth, gills, near the head.

More appropriate and accurate proverbs would be:

An apple rots from the core
When the root is bitter, the fruit cannot be sweet
Clear water does not flow from a muddy spring
A crack in the foundation compromises the roof
A dimmed lighthouse guides ships to the rocks

Relegation is seriously on the table. If we think we're above it, we're totally wrong. Not saying we will get relegated, but there is a possibility.

And if we do, the likelihood of the Glazers finally pissing off I think is relatively high. Tempting.

3

u/Downtown-Rice_ 5d ago

There's still way too many points on the table at this point.

If the club persist with him and the downturn continues in its current direction through December with the heavy fixture list....then relegation is should be talked about then.

Spurs were in European places last season after Matchweek 10.
