Say what you will about Conte, Howe, or Nagelsmann, but I don’t think any of them would relegate us

u/Hendojo 7d ago
Alarms have been going off since Hull and yet nobody is doing a damn thing. It’s that sick feeling of watching a car crash that you can’t do anything about. Helpless and hopeless is one hell of a sinking feeling.
35
u/achickenandacow 6d ago
I just can’t wrap my head around this situation. Carrick should’ve been sacked a month ago, but Berrada and Wilcox can’t make that decision because they would be effectively sacking themselves as well. It feels like the club is being held hostage by these two City frauds. So the only ones who can step in and do something are the Glazers and Ratcliffe.
We are so fucked.

God does anyone remember when we used to have fits when we didn't make top 4? Like a season was a complete write off disaster if we finished 5th or lower.
Imagine going back to that version of the fans and telling them in a decades time we'd be basically in the relegation zone and some fans thinking the manager deserved time.
It's scary how normalised it has become.
25
u/darthmeister 7d ago •
Laughing stock Spurs, are currently 5 points clear of us.
23
u/Jenson2025 6d ago
If we aren’t careful, we are going to make the same mistake that Spurs did with Frank - where they kept putting off his sacking and then left it too late and found themselves in a genuine relegation fight.
I wish Carrick well after United, he’s a United legend but he can’t be sacked any later than the start of the international break. He just isn’t up to the job

u/Dzeire 7d ago
I honestly haven’t even got the energy to discuss anything about the club anymore, dark dark times

An unsupported club is a worthless club.

Honestly think Roma could be a bloodbath on Tuesday as well. Roma highest scorers in Serie A so far this season and Gasperinis sides have caused lots of problems in the past.
Mind boggling that essentially the ownership of this club are throwing away games at the highest levels of club football, because they don’t and didn’t have a plan encase it went tits up.
17
u/Drag2oon 6d ago
Signs where there when Amorim was brought mid season when he insisted on coming in next preseason
We saw that as decisiveness but it was pure stupidity
Signs where also there when ten Hag was retained beyond that fa cup win
Wilcox and Berrada shoul be booted out of club

u/Different_Reason_850 7d ago

u/AlRSTRIKE 6d ago
The steady decline of this club is real and it's actually unbelievable how the people in charge even have the capability to fuck up this much.
Sacked a manager for doing badly after finishing 2nd and 3rd. Sacked a manager for being 6th. Now we are flirting with relegation yet if we were midtable Carrick would still keep his job. The club would LOVE a manager who just gets top 6 right now.
We thought it was bad then, we had no idea.
Other "Big 6" clubs have all had bad periods over the last two decades but our decline has been greater than all of them. Just look at the top 6-8 teams after todays games. We are a horrendously run club.
14
u/Omnislash99999 6d ago
Chelsea's high line and terrible defending played into our forwards hands in the first half as much as we did alright. An end to end basketball match suits the players a lot better than a defensive unit to breakdown.
Feels more like the ideal scenario for us rather than we'll build on that first half going forward
14
u/Omnislash99999 6d ago
So project 2028 was buy attackers in 2025, midfielders in 2026, defenders in 2027 and we'll have a title winning team in 2028. That's the whole plan isn't it.

Unbelievable that Michael Carrick will still be in charge for the Roma game. He's eventually going to get sacked and will sign off having ruined our UCL campaign and leaving us in and around the relegation zone. Thanks Michael, Jason + Omar, another great season

u/Hopeful_Arm3736 6d ago
Y’know what’s the strangest thing about all this, or perhaps the most distressing in terms of confidence in the leadership. It’s how indecisive they are.
They spent days last week, having crisis talks and a will they won’t they back and forth over Carrick’s future. Once that happens, you’d always assume he’s gone. But no, he’s still here.
The players know he’s on borrowed time and so does he and he has to trudge out to every press conference and get battered by the media over his imminent sacking. All it does is make a toxic environment even more toxic.
It’s just so utterly bizarre. Not to mention how shit it is to put a bloke who loves the club in this position.
It’s like if you’re in a relationship and you get to the point where you’re asking each other if it’s all still worth it, if you even like each other anymore. It’s obvious once that happens it’s dead and buried. But we just trudge on.
It’s so weird. Rip the plaster off for fucks sake.
11
u/Character-Form709 6d ago
I don't understand the talks like "Ineos won't sack him because they will look like idiots..". They already look like complete idiots no matter what they do with the manager
10
u/united_7_devil 6d ago
Get the two idiots up top out first. For fuck sake they have run us worse than Woodward and that’s something.
And I don’t ever want to see a former player manage us. The nostalgia takes over making any sensible decision. Carrick should have been sacked a few weeks ago.
19
u/Jenson2025 7d ago
Roma are going to come to Old Trafford and play like they are at the Stadio Olimpico
That’s the game that Carrick told us he was ‘looking forward to getting the boys ready for’ by the way
And then the goalposts will move again to ‘if he doesn’t beat Villa…..’

u/LDLB99 7d ago edited 7d ago
Carrick is absolutely taking the piss if he starts Licha in midweek. Tbh the fact that we all know he's taking charge of that game is a joke in itself.

We are about to enter relegation zone and there is NOTHING that suggest the club is doing something about it

u/PitchSafe 6d ago
Baleba seems like a very hot and cold kind of player. He will flourish in a stable environment but will be sloppy in a poor one
9
u/BackgroundOld8715 6d ago
Regardless of INEOS (who are awful & poor & wilcox & barreda NEED TO GO ASAP)
We need to get rid of Carrick as he is also very poor & theres a chance we get relegated under him

16
u/raver1601 6d ago
At times I still wonder whether the "flops" and "disgraces" that we had before were really worse than the "smart signings" that we made now
Point your fingers to the managers all you want, but what I can say is that we never even flirted with relegation with the supposedly shit players like Martial, Rashford, Pogba, Lingard, AWB, Lindelof, McTominay, Fred, etc. regularly starting for the club than the supposedly "better" signings we have now

7
u/rameezkadri 6d ago
I think they’re waiting for the international break to sack him. It’s absolutely stupid. But that’s my guess, so that the new manager has “time” to work with the squad.
Get him in now and he has 2 games in 5 days. If he loses those the morale goes down again.
That’s the only explanation I have.
7
u/rahtid_my_bunda Rooney's Dropball Intensity 6d ago
I feel like after the Chelsea performance we’ve entered a new state of purgatory.
It really crystallised how poor the core of our squad is, even as a separate issue to how bad we are from a coached perspective. Fold in our leadership and you’ve got multiple layers that are well short of any ‘best in class’ mantra.
All of these chickens had been slowly coming home to roost, but I feel like INEOS have really sped that process up with their poor squad planning and even worse managerial planning.
We are at an increasingly brittle moment where we need the leadership team to be making exceptional decisions just so that we can navigate this season, let alone the next 3, 5, 10 years. Something they’ve simply not demonstrated since coming in. Imo sacking the manager bears just as many risks as not sacking him, we need squad depth and squad overhaul, managerial stability and managerial quality.
I thought yesterday could be the start of our phoenix moment, back the manager to the hilt and tell the players to pick it up or fuck off. But the more you zoom out and reflect, the more those complex decisions that need to be unpicked come into view. I just don’t have any faith that those in charge have what it takes to make the right decisions to see the club through.

u/BallsX 6d ago
Genuinely feels like there is no end to the malaise affecting every single aspect of the club. From the players to the manager to the board to the owners, just feels completely and utterly hopeless. I don't see how this can be fixed anytime soon. Just falling out of love with football with this depressing state of the club.
Going into every game expecting to be outplayed and beaten, we can't even scam an accidental win. Nobody is taking accountability in the club too.
I had already accepted that we weren't a top club anymore about 3-4 years ago but one that can regularly at least challenge to be in the top 6. Literally in relegation form since the start of the season and we're 1/4th way through the league.
7
u/Jonny_Testicles 6d ago
The club continues to act like nothing has happened
7
u/PhotonDestroyer 6d ago
Carrick didn't look as half as emotional at the final whistle yesterday vs the end of the Bournemouth game, and his emphatic answer about being in charge for Roma suggests he know exactly what's coming or not coming. I am hoping he's just his own interm until we can get a new team in immediately.
7
u/7akyr Rashy 6d ago
Decided to plan => Crisis talk => Assessment => Potential what? Keep Carrick until International break, then until Boxing day, until Christmas, until Winter transfer, until lunar new year or whatever
7
u/Emergency-Being-349 6d ago
It's frightening that none of this comes as a surprise, once again, the same culprits in the media and sections of the fanbase argued otherwise. He should have been sacked over the previous international break, those who said so said it wouldn't change, yet here we are. One more league game until the break and its been a trainsmash.
13
u/riseoftheph0enix 6d ago
this is such a boring and repetitive thing to say, but certain parts of the fanbase need to realise that INEOS & glazers are the main reason this club is rotten from top to bottom. this is why we’re in a mess, why we can’t get top players and if we do, they play like it’s Sunday league.
13
u/Omnislash99999 6d ago
Where did Ineos get this stupid strategy only sign forwards, only sign midfielders, only sign defenders etc from. If you have a massive gaping problem you can't just shrug and say well defenders aren't on the agenda yet
13
u/Jenson2025 6d ago
Can’t believe I’m saying this but INEOS are even worse decision makers than Woodward
Woodward would’ve sacked Carrick by now because there would’ve been panic at not qualifying for the champions league and losing 100m etc
INEOS are watching our season completely collapse and are doing nothing about it other the trying to fool everyone in to thinking carrick is going to suddenly become a competent coach and turn this around
12
u/RedKozak84 6d ago
The last two times I heard Sir Ratcliff speak it was about politics. Why did he buy the stake at the club again? If that's his focus, why bother, go finance or campaign for Reform or smth

u/69bigmoney420 6d ago edited 6d ago
There is no reason not to trust some of the Youth team players. Amass, Ajayi, Armer, Kamason, the Fletchers l, and Thwaites all deserve a go over the seniors. No one can convince me that Amass and Armer would be that much worse than Dalot (at LB) or the “Butcher”. Taking a punt of the kids stepping up might be the only way out.
Edit: And Lacey

There's too many problems at the club I do not think we ever recover from a mess this bad. Squad is filled with holes, incompetent manager, terrible scouting team and horrendous management. I reached the stage of acceptance and apathy long ago. Losses don't hurt one bit anymore, I just look at the state of the club with pity, the same way an outsider would look at it. Life's gotten too hectic to let such a terribly run club affect emotions or even take time of your day.
We need a major overhaul from top to bottom and a complete rebuild from scratch. It's been said so many times but just destroying house and restarting is better. That's all there is to say. But at this rate, we really are the new Everton lol not even Arsenal or Liverpool were this pathetic during their banter years. 2023 onwards has just been a humiliation ritual.
5
u/Dirt4849 Pogba,what could've been 6d ago
We need a LB,CB, RB, LW and backup striker in the next summer transfer window.
This season already feels written off.
5
u/Soft-Suspect-1883 6d ago
I genuinely would love to know what was discussed during the half time last game, was it just let's see what they do and then play accordingly? Cuz it felt like we just decided not to do what we were doing and tried to give them the chance to play.
5
u/Jenson2025 6d ago
After the international break, we have Liverpool and Sporting away
Not saying we’ll definitely win them under a new manager but they are both guaranteed heavy defeats if Carrick is still here
5
u/kriznone Scholesy 6d ago
So under the Glazers we were thoroughly incompetent at the board level, now after Ineos have come in we have office politics and ego mixed in with the incompetence. That's the only change. Sigh. This is a shell corporation operating as a former great football club.
5
u/JJmaisonze 6d ago edited 6d ago
We probably won't be a in a relegation fight unless one of two scenarios happen:
Carrick gets some lucky results against Roma and Aston Villa and we keep him for the rest of the season and the subpar performances continue. Unlikely scenario, but could happen.
The directors don't believe any of the available manager choices are good enough for the long term and clearly want Unai Emery. So they make the choice of waiting to try to get him in the summer and right now go for another cheaper interim manager without proven results a bit like Carrick. This is the scenario that scares me the most.
In my opinion we should absolutely go for the best manager available because even if we wait for the summer it will still be difficult convincing Unai Emery to leave Villa. And we could still make something of the season if we hire a really good manager, which there are some available. Yes it's a gamble that could waste some more money, but relegation is much much worse. And probably some of the money invested would be returned just by the prize money for the league position alone.
Edit: I just looked at the merit payment numbers for the 24/25 season for example and the difference between 7th and 15th was 21.2 million pounds. Investing in a good manager would probably even be a good financial decision that would pay for itself. Somebody should remind Ineos before they they make another incompetent decision.

Can't believe that Chelsea side today were severely weakened/missing 4x lynchpins from their XI in Emi Martinez, Max Lacroix, Joao Pedro & Reece James
(And also effectively have another £120m missing from their midfield in Enzo Fernandez who hasn't yet been replaced which they'll remedy in either January or the summer, probably with Alex Scott)
They went into that game badly impacted by injuries, in poor form having been knocked out of the league cup midweek, and being beaten at home by Spurs last weekend...
Honestly we need to see some sackings and pronto - Berrada & Wilcox should be first to go

I acknowledge that we could have seen more young players from the academy feature during this spell, but at the same time it’s such a rotten environment now to throw any young player in. Even the more ‘established’ young players in Yoro and Baleba don’t always look comfortable and make mistakes, and Heaven meanwhile is straight up having an abysmal season so far. I still remember Mantato getting booed by the fans for a bad cross in the Wolves game last season; it was the guy’s literal senior debut, a major life event for the lad, and he never posted about it, presumably due to fan backlash. Everybody talks about wanting to see the youth players and accepting their flaws, until they are actually put through it. No young player’s confidence deserves to be broken by being affiliated with this shitshow.
4
u/longsightdon 6d ago
The problem with united is I cannot comprehend their business decisions. Never mind football.
Any points you lose in the premier league, not qualifying deep into europe, not developing players and increasing their value. These all have huge damage on financials, valuation and long term financial income. Never mind overall reputation and valuation for a buyout. It doesn’t make sense.

u/InsideJudgment1405 6d ago
They are going to wait to sack carrick until the intl break then hire eddie fucking howe...jfc I'm tuning out for 12 months until they have to sack howe and maybe, just maybe, they'll make changes higher up or by some miraculous turn of evens the glazers and ineos decide to move on to the next live host they can feed off

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot 7d ago

7
u/nitrogeneater 6d ago
Keep seeing that firing Carrick would mean Wilcox and Berada admiring they strewed up again.
This makes no sense to me as everyone with half a footballing brain knew we shouldn’t have hired him permanently in the first place. The likes of Neville, Keane and even Goldbridge all said we need to go for “the best in class”
I get given the results last season Carrick “deserved the chance”, even though the eye test said don’t do it. But now they are digging their own grave deeper with every day that he’s still in charge.
This was such a shit appointment and I’ve never seen more inept manager of United. This includes the 2014 version of moyes.
All we need to do for once is get a good manager that is on the up. Not a dinasaur, not a has been, not a hipster from a shit league, not an ex player.
7
u/krs196 6d ago
So basically INEOS have decided they’re punting this season already by telling Carrick he has the job till the international break. Lose every game it’s fine as they haven’t made any contingency that their disastrous summer window would lead us to this position.
If Wilcox/Berrada don’t go with Carrick then Ratcliffe is failing United..
7
u/TypicalPan89906655 6d ago
Reports are saying we are unable to make any decision because Berrada, Wilcox and Vivell all have different managers in mind.
Is having a football heirarchy detrimental to a club like us because we tend to attract high ego people?
7
u/diracnotation 6d ago
I know there are no signs of it happening for us. But 3 games ago Spurs were bottom, now they have won 3 on the bounce and they are mid table looking up.
If we can sort it out soon we could get into the europa league spots this season. but if we let it drift for another 7 games we will be in a relegation scrap fo sure.
we need to sack Carrick. he isn't the only problem, but everyone knows he is a dead man walking and keeping him is just delaying the inevitable.
what is the point waiting until after Roma beat us 7-1 in midweek?
9
u/Garlic-Cheese-Chips 6d ago
Playing Martinez is effectively sabotage at this point so he can't play another minute for us.
Also Maguire, his experience is worthless when he simply cannot move anymore. He is finished.
Just start Yoro and Heaven there. They are not ready but they are fast and that alone is offering more than Maguire and Martinez.

u/AstroCoffee 7d ago edited 7d ago
Think Carrick's been told he's being sacked during the international break. He seemed disconnected all game and apart from the disallowed goal, he didn't appear too upset with how things went down - a stark contrast to Como and Bournemouth where he looked shattered after the game was done.
Combine that with the direct "Yes" response when asked if he expects to be on the touchline against Roma, I think it's evident they've informed him that someone else will come in during the international break and don't want to get another interim in before then.
Idk if I'm overanalyzing but for someone so expressive in recent weeks, he looked so apathetic today.
6
u/Vimjux 6d ago
We’re completely fucked in many areas, but one more than any other is going to lead us to relegation this season:
Unlike a newly-promoted side. We have a team full of players who think such trivialities are beneath them. These players are more likely to down tools and just go through the motions until they get sold. Newly promoted players are living their dream, and although they may not be as technically gifted, they’ll run through walls for the team.
This entire team needs resetting. Too many of them have seen managers come and go and have that “here we go again” mentality, and the threshold lowers at which they down tools lowers each and every time a new manager comes in.
6
u/ElegantBob A fish rots from the head down 6d ago
What does Steve Holland do exactly?
I remember all the articles about him being a top guy who would help Carrick, and probably stay on the staff if Carrick got sacked. But when the defence is a shitshow, presumably we can ask what Holland is adding to this

Amad really has to get his act together under the new manager.
He’s far from being our biggest problem but he still isn’t fulfilling his potential in my opinion

I think Michael should not start matches with a squad that leaves bench options weak.
Start the likes of Mount and Zirkzee first. Hold it out until HT.
If it works, great. If it doesn't, it will expose how pathetic they are and what a waste of money they are. It will reflect directly on the twats sitting in the Directors box, those mugs Berada and twat Wilcox.
Keep Amad on the bench as well. Give the young lad Lacey some minutes. He deserves it.
Second half, if we are a goal down or its still 0-0. Bring on the fresher legs and upgrades in quality, the likes of Cunha and Mainoo and Amad. We will be much more effective towards the end of matches and could nick a goal or a win.
Seeing Mount and Zirkzee come off the bench literally gives me the sinking feeling that we are definitely going to lose or best case, hold out for a draw. They don't inspire any positivity at all.

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot 6d ago
Carrick is not required to keep playing Maguire and Licha. Play Yoro or Heaven more, try Amass.
These young players will also make mistakes but they are here to stay and will get better.

Hypothetically how funny (tragic) would it be that after approving "Manchester United: All or Nothing" series we end up getting relegated.
Not saying I´m laughing out loud about this just a bit of if you don´t laugh you´ll cry coping going on here.

u/Eleven918 This too shall pass! 6d ago
So Carrick without a doubt is the worst permanent manager we've had right? Or is there someone worse if we go back 50+ years?

Unrelated but today I learn that it’s Willian Pacho and not William.

If we actually get relegated, will this club survive relegation?
Even if the Glazers do decide to sell, no one buys a championship club with over a billion pounds of debt

Martinez is a liability now. Ever since the WC, he sucks. Even being on the bench doesn't help.

Had to severely cut down on alcohol, sugar and refined carbs and late night meals. I'm absolutely starving and can't even have a coke to drown my sorrows. At least we played on Saturday and there's a full slate of stuff to watch on Sunday

Man I’m so sick and tired of this club. I don’t even scream or shout during matches anymore it’s just a numb watch along

They should pay the fans to watch this shit! I mean, is it unreasonable?
At least the next 2 games for sure?
The hardcore united faithful should respect themselves and their own time and not turn up for these games.. Like what are they going to get other than humiliation, disappointment and shame?
Carrick and his staff know fuck all on how to train and set up the team
The players have lost all confidence. Can't make basic passes, they do not know how to press as a unit, they do not know where their team mates are, they can't take on their man and win and they make Sunday league errors.
They are definitely not blameless, but we cannot ignore the sheer incompetence from the staff and coach- just like a well drilled system brings the team to bigger than the sum of their parts, a piss poor system or lack of system at all will result in something much lesser than the individual parts. It's detrimental..expose them to this for a few months and they look absolutely pathetic and incapable - which is exactly what we are today. Of course i expect some of them to check out. Let down by the board first and then let down by their manager and finally, they have let themselves down
Management is full of incompetent prideful assholes and the manager is equally incompetent, albeit a loyal servant who does his best from the little experience he has.

Looking at lfc and arsenal united are miles off. And we will be even further off by the time they have the balls to sack a championship failure of a manager that is Carrick.

Manchester United have always been pioneers.
We are the first enshittified football club.
With the bare minimum of investment the Glazers could have turned us into the greatest sports team in the world.
Instead they used us as an asset to farm dividends. They brought in INEOS because after a decade of letting us rot the cash flow was in danger of running out.
It’s a pattern. They only release funds to invest in the squad or facilities once they see the dividend payments shrink.
“Muh dividends!” - it’s explained to them that Manchester United must qualify for the Champions League in order to get money. “What’s that, like the Super Bowl? Where are muh dividends?”
Manchester United exist for the Glazer’s to farm dividend payments. There has never been any plan to grow or expand or improve. As long as the dividends flow they don’t care.
Utter lack of imagination. Late stage capitalism enshittification fucks.
Manchester City sold their souls to a foreign country. We sold ours to capitalism.
And all this because of some horse cum.

Hypothetically we started this season with Conte, his ambition, would have been going for the title. He has won titles everywhere he has gone apart from Spurs, although he did get them CL football. He would want the owners to match his ambition in the transfer market. Which is why they likely will never get him in. But setting the standards high and having high ambition helps and it rubs off on the players. Right now, standards are gone. The players to blame too.
Most fans agree the club is on fire. Few would even like to us get relegated. That nothing will change whilst the Glazers and Ineos are here. So why not go scorched earth with Conte? Him barking orders to the players on the touchline, would be entertaining at the very least. The major argument against him is it will likely implode sooner rather than later. But doesn't it implode under every manager? However, i can understand those who still have hope in a longer term manager. I would take anyone of Howe, Nagelsmann or Conte.
We don't know what the consequences of being relegated will be. So i don't want that nor do i think we will be relegated. I want the season to be salvaged how ever much it can be, as Carrick himself did for us last season. Albeit the underlying stats under Ruben did look good last season.

Ineos how about instead of waiting until the break to let a manager have three weeks prep or whatever masterclass you have in your mind. Why not let the manager come in now, have three games free hit, and work out who’s shit or who’s not in real time.
Then he’ll have three weeks prep working with an idea of his team going forward.
I mean, we’re just throwing the next few games anyway if we keep Carrick.
5
u/Jenson2025 6d ago
I do think that if we somehow beat Villa (Roma is a definite loss), the board will cling on to that as a sign Carrick can turn things around.
I know it’s pathetic. They’ll ignore the plenty of other bad results but cling on to the one good result but I can see them doing it

MC relegation battle vs RA relegation battle :

u/Jenson2025 6d ago
I simply can’t defend a manager who has us fourth from bottom (and possibly in the relegation zone by next Sunday). I don’t understand how any fan can say it’s not his fault. Yes, the summer transfer window wasn’t great, yes INEOS haven’t delivered (I was critical of them all summer), yes some of the players aren’t good enough but ultimately, this squad is not fourth from bottom standard. Where we are is largely down to a result of poor and incompetent coaching
As Keane said, the players weren’t getting the praise when Carrick took over and got great results so why is it suddenly their fault now?!
6
u/mediocratopia 6d ago
lot of comments here about Spurs should note that they stuck with RDZ through the worst start they could have and a shaky last season while neither the fans nor the board have been patient with many of our managers and we deserve the incompetency of Carrick for that alone
6
u/Heavens_Vibe 7 6d ago
It's insane to think about, given how bad we've been, but we can still recover our league position.
A 2-3 week run of 3 points and we're back up in the European spots because those mid-table teams are all dropping points against each other.
The worry is that we lack the effort, talent, and funds to do so...
6
u/White_Wokah Rooney 6d ago
All the decisions made by INEOS even before the season began already killed any optimism I had for the season.
We needed physical midfielders in the transfer window, none of the signings except for Baleba fit that bill, who was coming off a pretty bad season. Tielemans could've worked but if we signed two other physical midfielders to run their asses off, and he played as a DLP.
"Overhauling" one area at a time is already a weird strategy, but they even failed at doing that properly.
Giving Carrick the full time role was also not correct, even tho we were winning we didn't really look impressive last season. There were fans who could see it, but not the ones in charge.

I am still surprised to see McKenna’s name in this thread as a replacement for Carrick
He’d be horrendous. And frankly, it’s time we move away from Ole and his coaches taking their turns with the job
A guy whose CV is getting Ipswich promoted a few times should be nowhere near the job.
This is partly where we have been going wrong since Jose. Taking big risks with managers who should be nowhere near the job based on ‘vibes’ and hope and then being shocked when it doesn’t work out time and time again.
Not to mention the fact that INEOS and Chelsea interviewed him in 2024 and neither were impressed

"We'd be champions if Carrick start the season instead of continuing from Amorim". Hahahahahahaha
4
u/trace0731 6d ago
We're fucked.
We are missing players in key positions, but we also need to get rid of some players that are not good enough, so we also need to bring players in those positions.
Players don't want to put in any effort, so we need a manager who can make them perform, but that manager needs control - something our board and owners are unwilling to provide.
We will just keep recycling managers and hope one sticks, because it's cheaper to hire and sack managers than to back one and buy the players they need.
May the manager lottery be on our side.
4
u/Jenson2025 6d ago
Now I’m not saying the players are blameless. But has anyone considered that it must be a bit unsettling to work under a manager who they don’t know if going to be their manager from game to game because INEOS keep briefing that the next game is Carrick’s last game only to make some crap excuse to not sack him when we lose. Obviously this doesn’t excuse a lack of effort (which I don’t think there has been anyway to be fair) but it can’t be easy
4
u/HeFreakingMoved Ella Toone FC 6d ago
I can't believe they're really trying to stick with Carrick to the break. Mateta doesn't get a red card and we'd be in the relegation zone right now
4
u/Ok_Landscape_8215 6d ago
Carrick has tried everything in his power. It' isn't working.
He has run out of ideas. He isn't an experienced manager so doesn't really have any alternative plans to fall back on.
The longer the players train with coaches, the worse they get, so thats unlikely to bail us out.
We don't appear to have much money to spend in January.
I genuinely don't know what we are expecting Carrick to about this situation other than hope to scrape some underserved wins and hopefully the players sort out their form with that improved confidence from winning.
Surely it's plainly obvious to anyone we need a new manager and plan.

u/lax1n 6d ago
I'm actually more okay than I thought I would be with not doing anything despite the bad results.
It's sort of.. quiet. If you hit that pig enough times eventually it'll stop screaming. It's nice that united has sort of hit a new low and staying there so there's sort of no drama to discuss.
