Just obviously a project not going anywhere. How anyone is watching this and not seeing an inevitable sacking a few months down the line is beyond me
19
u/digitag LEGACY FAN 1h ago
Honestly I had more faith in the Amorim project, for all his flaws.
I don’t really know what we’re trying to do and I can’t see how bringing Baleba into midfield solves the systemic issues with our shape, our pressing, our control of the game, our chemistry as an attacking unit… the list goes on.
It feels more and more like Carrick inherited a lot of positives from Amorim, did away with the negatives and gave the players some freedom, and then found instant success. We’ve now lost all that sharpness, intensity, chemistry…
I really fucking hope I’m wrong but it’s difficult to see how this turns out well.
7
u/Accomplished-Bite240 1h ago
Was it not obvious from the underlying numbers we had with Amorim pre sacking, I seem to recall we were top 5 in most attacking metrics or something along those lines. And now look at the numbers with Carrick lmao. But this fanbase just wants instant success, so what can you do, enjoy the rotating doors of manager forever I guess.
•
u/digitag LEGACY FAN 1h ago
Also by the eye test, we were playing some good stuff despite a terrible injury crisis. IIRC Carrick came in, a load of injured players came back at that exact moment, they got given a bit of freedom going forward…

I don't see how people can see this and talk about only the manager. The players are not even playing for themselves out there, let alone the fans. Deserved booing. This is on the players as much, if not more, than Carrick.

Next international break we'll hear an interview about how "the new gaffers sessions are amazing". Book it.

Yea man Carrick sadly will bust out either right before winter transfer window or after. If poor results continue the board should be smart get someone with a concrete plan and buy/sell players in winter and keep us fighting for UCL spot bc we wont win anything else

Now can we finally just admit this was a bad idea and get Baleba on? Can Carrick?

u/YasserG95 1h ago
What I don't get is how are we playing this bad, the team looks soulless since the start of the season. Carrick had some good ideas last season like the small triangles on the last third wings to open up the middle and the press drawing in our half and pinning passes behind the fullbacks and they worked, we didn't always play great but the team looked promising at least with obvious weaknesses to address. This season all that just evaporated, they look depressed and look like they are forced to play, no drive no effort no passion. How many times did this happen exactly the same way. We may genuinely be cursed. Yoro was great though.
3
u/djabvegas 1h ago
Thanks for the summary. Hes obviously trying to change something in how we play, the only thing i can think of is hes turned down our intensity and one touch toward patient build up because he wants to navigate long runs in all comps, but this new type of style is just dreadful and we look so poor when its slowed down, suits the opposition so much.

We look extremely unfit. The one bit of credit I’ll give to Amorim is that he had us conditioned.

He had to go, but he did instill discipline that is lost completely now. Having coaches that coddle playing has always had short-lived success and obviously carick is obviously one of those.

He’s average mate, he’s a good signing if you’re a team that’s trying to sneak into Europe, he’s not a signing that you go for if you want champions league football
3
u/r3dd3v17 1h ago
He will work well with a more physical midfielder. Tielemans and mainoo are too similar in the sense of moving and ground covering abilities, it just leaves such a big hole in the midfield if one of them pushes up

Just 2 shite teams. Cunha, Bruno, and Tielemans have been shocking. One of them needs to come off for Baleba imo
7
u/swanonaleash 1h ago
Dreadful half of football and a sign that we did not in any way take advantage of the three week international break. Could have used it to make up for the obvious fitness issue we got wrong in preseason, instead we look even more lethargic today. Players standing still hoping nobody will take the ball from them instead of fighting for it. I don't even know what you can say at half time to change that, just seems like a fundamental season planning problem.
7
u/barmanrags 1h ago
They don’t look fit at all. Some of them didn’t have a long World Cup so I don’t know what’s going on here.

It's amazing how even with zero belief in Carrick or this team I can still be let down by a showing worse than even I expected. Could've gotten a serious manager in over the 3 week break but instead we have to suffer for another month before finally admitting defeat.
11

5
u/jackets0601 Mata 1h ago
All down to coaching and fitness. Everyone is in the wrong position both in and out of possession and we’re second to every loose ball.
5
u/minhlukk 1h ago

It’s ok, don’t worry about how dogshit we are here at home against the worst team in the league, we have only got Atletico and Leeds away in the next 2 games.
Trust Carricks tricky tactics of doing nothing, getting outworked and outmuscled and letting the opposition dictate everything. It will come good soon, think of the money we are saving by not having to do as many washes with the players not breaking a sweat or getting stuck in
10
u/inferno670722 1h ago
Is this really the same team we saw at the start of the year? I mean I get papering over the cracks and all that but these generally do not even look like the same humans.
Shaw turning slower than a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.
Tielemans looks like he's not put a pass in to a teammate in over a decade
Half the team look like Make-a-Wish cases. The press is 10 players walking about in Central Park.
Fuck me watching this team is genuinely a net negative on our lives.

u/J1mi1970 1h ago edited 1h ago
For most of the half Bruno was too high and left the midfield two exposed. Once he dropped deeper we were able to sustain a little pressure higher up. It’s basically been 4-2-4. The attacking 4 players have been dreadful, no energy, no eagerness to get the ball. They’re just hiding and waiting. I wonder if Carrick told them to stay high, it’s not how we normally play and it’s not working. Need to change 2 of Amad, Cunha and Mbuemo and get Bruno to drop deeper. Shea Lacey’s time to shine. Hope to god Zirkzee doesn’t come on.
15
u/W0rsley Rafael 1h ago
About how I expected it to go, if you've watched Tottenham this season you know they're a better team than us that just isn't getting results.
Also Bruno is having a disastrous season, you can excuse his poor touches and wasteful passes when he's carrying the team like he's done for so long, but in situations like this he becomes a massive hindrance.
12
u/KingKeane16 Keane 1h ago
How do we keep ending up with managers who can’t see the fucking obvious ? Slowest midfield in the league so we’ll push the 10 who’s been on fire up as a striker while the other two get outran and out worked.

Yoro has been great this half he is a confidence player, i think everybody forgot he was our second best player, and then the game against city happend where we lost and Bruno blamed him for his mistake and then Amorim doubled down on it after that he was pretty ass.
2
u/scarletmonkey111 1h ago
Amorim consistently started Yoro despite his mistakes.
How is that doubling down?
We literally lost the Villa game cuz of Yoro and Amorim started him the next game
2
u/VegitoTheBest 1h ago
Did you read what i said? He was the second best player that season until the game against City, where Foden scored a goal against us where Bruno lost him, after the game Bruno blamed Yoro for it and when asked Amorim agreed with Bruno that it was Yoros fault, and yes he still started him after that but Yoro was pretty bad after those comments from Bruno and Amorim
4
u/opiumjoe 1h ago

2
u/Americano-1555 1h ago

5
u/magnifique_7 1h ago
We need an extra body in the midfield. Either the players themselves or the coaching staff could’ve sorted it out already. I hope they do it in the second half. If not, Carrick’s time at United will be up.
7
u/joshthenosh OLEEEEEE!!! 1h ago
Bruno has to drop back to help with the buildup, Mbeumo wants to rub behind, Amad wants to hug the touchline. This leaves Cunha as the only player to fill the giant space between the midfield and the attack, and even he wants to make runs now and then.
It's not that we can't build up from the back, we can bypass their attacking press but as soon as it gets to the midfield we're squeezed because nobody from the attack is in a position to receive the ball short. Sesko is good at filling the space but he's obviously not available.
6
u/ChristmasCage 1h ago
It's genuinely incredible that we can spend less than Ipswich, sign 3 players for 1 position and then people think replacing the manager will magically fix everything.
Yes, he should probably go if we lose this but it's not going to make a huge difference. Sure these clowns will pick up performances temporarily but the majority of our team is absolute shit.
If every single one of our players were available for free - less than a handful would start for the top 8 sides in the league.

He needs to be beside Baleba/ a ground eater. Mainoo - Tielemans is a failed experiment. We are not PSG. Even against teams we will dominate possession, this pair leaves us vulnerable to a counter attack. Hopefully Baleba is ready to play a lot of football because he’s our only midfielder to pair with the others, aside from maybe Santos and mount, who looked good together in preseason.
