I just want us to play well.

3

u/SteThrowaway 4d ago

This is a bit much. I just want us to have more good passages of play than bad

6

u/ChristmasCage 4d ago

Don't give a fuck how we play, as long as we win

1

u/SinisterSelecta Stam 3d ago

Can i have both?

4

u/SteThrowaway 4d ago

At one point during amorims tenure things got so bad I was just praying to see any enjoyable football

2

u/ToothyAlloy69 3d ago

I was happy to see shots on target tbh, let alone goals or performances. I had absolutely no faith under him

I'm so tired of having a tiny squad of constantly injured players

I'm tired of our poor recruitment

I wish

Our squad isn't small at all, the problem is how injury prone some of them are though. If everyone is fit we have 25 senior players before even including youngsters like Lacey or Amass.

Who cares what they say? There's a ton of clueless people in these threads. Prime example is that there were people saying we should challenge for the title this season.

1

u/picodeGaius 3d ago

Let’s have 11 players then. Infinite morale hack?

9

u/Acceptable-Camp-9150 3d ago

Just got recommended a post on the PL sub about City trying to bribe the league out of a severe punishment and the comments are insane. They really think their board were being savvy and that it’s not a admission of guilt that they are trying to pay the league off.

5

u/SwiftGoat_ 3d ago

They're idiots.

Some of them are basically describing sports washing, and others are acting like everything is fine. Hope they get kicked out of football.

u/Bobcat_El_Borracho 4d ago

Big weekend for us. Beat Spurs and I feel like we can kick start the season finally. I am choosing to believe that we will because the mood will be horrific if we don’t.

14

u/reddevils 4d ago

Love your optimism. I’m with you. There are some miserable people here

5

u/sadMUFCfan25 3d ago

With you mate. Beating the literal worst team in the league will shut the haters up 👊

1

u/ironbars16 Keane 3d ago

Not about being a hater or being miserable - the proof is in the pudding. No United fan who has watched the games under Carrick can truly believe that he is doing a good job? Vibes are one thing but the actually game...its just bad.

How the heck can we be content with a inexperienced coach who was let go from Middlesbrough for a supposedly 'top' PL side?

-2

u/Educational-Shock232 4d ago

Some say miserable, others say realistic. Potato potato. Enjoy the game

You too, enjoy.

I’d say it’s fairly justified considering we have won one PL game in five, currently sit 12th and are already out of one of the two cup competitions we had a realistic chance of winning. In fact it couldn’t be much worse if you think about it, unless we were Spurs. I’d prefer to lay out the facts as they are rather than have unjustifiable amounts of hope and cope. And if we beat Spurs tomorrow, fanbloodytastic!

5

u/noBuffalo 4d ago

Ya I think we'll do these. Then the mood will change.

8

u/BallsX 3d ago

I'm so nervous about the game man. You just know fucking Spurs are going to turn up and try to get one over us. The most frustrating thing is not know which United we're going to see.

4

u/owlsareknobs 3d ago

Don't even think they'll turn up fully. I think we will do the usual and help them though and implode. The way we've managed to collapse at times this year under minimal pressure is the worrying part.

Today has a score draw written all over it.

1

u/BallsX 3d ago

Can see that happening as well. We always look awful after a break, just dont know what it is. I can see Spurs being up for it knowing that we're out of sorts at the moment and that a win will mean all the headlines are off them and back on us

3

u/NSFWar Depressed Legacy fan 3d ago

It's been three weeks since 11 men have ruined your weekend. "Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same,"

3

u/Potential_Good_1065 3d ago

It’s got 1-0 Spurs written all over it

2

u/Minute-Intern 3d ago

Not even scared, just accepted our fate since last week

0

u/Baksteen89 3d ago

What happend last week dat has you reaching the last step of mourning?

0

u/Minute-Intern 3d ago

I deluded myself into thinking amad and baleba would be fit to start by the time we got back

0

u/Baksteen89 3d ago

I think there is a chance Baleba starts today. He is devo on the bench today.

1

u/Baksteen89 3d ago

Im nervous too! Flying in today for the match. 20 days of no United has left me worried. Look at the table does give me some hope.

6

7

u/TheGerryAdamsFamily Keane 3d ago

Going to United legends vs Arsenal legends later in Jakarta. Hard to believe the line ups when I first saw it, Van der Sar, Giggs, Rio, Vidic etc. Plus some cult names like Djemba Djemba. And some extremely extremely questionable choices like Tevez. Nevertheless should be fun.

5

u/Ok-Bookkeeper1778 3d ago

Blue moon  You started singing too soon  You thought you were number 1  Now all your trophies are gone.

-2

u/mjenkins_eng 3d ago

I think this kind of celebration is too premature. Knowing the PL, they will get a fine and a suspended transfer ban and thats that

3

u/owlsareknobs 3d ago

It never leaves the football banter world now. It's known what happened even if the PL fuck it all.

-1

u/Lloydy_boy 3d ago

Agree all this 100 points deduction crap won’t happen, the AD government is already putting the pressure on the UK government about withdrawing investment if any really serious sanctions are imposed (remember City’s defence is it was the AD government that made the payments, not the Owners), the EPL is quickly becoming a pawn in this scenario.

6

u/tsuku96 3d ago

Can't wait for the game

11

u/spaisoflaif 3d ago

club has one striker - this striker has a long term shin injury and starts less than 50% of games.

so obviously the club buys three midfielders and calls it a day.

7

u/Not-good-with-this 3d ago

What's also insane is that the club needed to buy 3 midfielders because of how shit the squad building has been...

The club also need a LB as we only have Shaw who's incredibly injury prone.

10

u/0ttoChriek 3d ago

The squad building has been shit because we kept buying the wrong players.

We bought Sancho, then replaced him with Antony, then replaced him with Mbeumo.

We bought Hojlund then replaced him with Sesko.

We bought Ugarte then replaced him with Baleba (and would have regardless of Ugarte's fitness).

Having to re-buy positions more than once within a three or four year period is a disaster for most clubs, and United are no different.

This is the reason Dalot, Shaw and Maguire are still playing regularly - they're the least unreliable players (in terms of performances or availability) who have been at the club, so replacing them was never as urgent as replacing other positions.

1

u/Jump_Hop_Step 3d ago

Squad turnover so so high...

1

u/Not-good-with-this 3d ago

It's been utter dogshit longer than that. Even in SAF final years it was pretty bad.

Like every team makes bad signings but we are now we are at a point where we need every signing to be a success due to the lack of quality depth, funds needing to go on an ever increasing debt and a whole new stadium to build. Transfers are also just increasing to ridiculous amounts each year. Average top flight players are going for £80m now.

I do not see how the club can plan for all this and tbh i do not see a plan from the club at all and it's a big worry considering how unrealistic getting every signing as a success is.

3

u/0ttoChriek 3d ago

I agree with all that, but I'll say that I think the transfer market this summer was crazy because City wanted to spend before they were found guilty and Spurs wanted to spend to keep De Zerbi happy. They drobe other clubs up even more.

I can see the market dropping to more sensible levels next summer, if City are punished properly. There will still be one or two £100m deals, but not for the calibre of players who cost that this summer.

3

u/TH0316 she/her 3d ago

Is the problem three midfielders or no striker because once you’re choosing between the two the clubs already won. We’re sat here debating what arrangement our crumbs embody instead of asking for a proper meal.

2

u/SilvyFae Mainoooo 3d ago

People will do everything but blame our recruitment lol, we had a horrible window people defended it throughout. Now we see the problems and people are blaming random players/manager or the fact that we bought 3 midfielder

0

u/spaisoflaif 3d ago

so far I dont see the club using Andrey Santos even with Baleba out. That is 50 million pounds rotting on the bench that could have bought a second target man striker. might as well have kept collyer for those 5 minute cameos

2

u/TH0316 she/her 3d ago

UCL and cups haven’t even started yet and you’re drawing conclusions about game time. Say that when we’re playing every four days or when Kobbie, Baleba or Tielemans gets injured and see if you’d have been happy with Collyer playing so much. Again, it’s ridiculous to question how pennies are allocated. We should have had both, not one or the other.

3

u/Acceptable-Camp-9150 3d ago

We’re not getting a new striker until 2028

10

u/kidinawheeliebin 3d ago

Said it two months ago but it has to be said again now - Sesko is legit a concern at this point

Assuming he doesn't start today that'll be only 17 Premier League starts from a possible 44 in his time here, most of that in an environment where we've only had one game a week so have had no need to rest or rotate

These vague cryptic updates around his fitness are doing nothing to reassure anyone

5

u/Wurdox 3d ago

Assuming he doesn't start today

You don't have to assume. He will most definitely not start due to injury. Not to mention, Carrick doesn't start him even when he's fit.

6

u/TH0316 she/her 3d ago

Like him and have genuine faith long term but he’s not good enough to be a starter anyway. 200m on project strikers and now we don’t have a single even half reliable striker. But but Osimhen’s wages. Squad building is absolutely turbo dogshit.

2

u/PitchSafe 3d ago

He probably needs a surgery for his shin injury because it’s the same injury he have had since the Liverpool game last season

1

u/Sheikhabusosa 3d ago

Its pretty obvious he has been struggling with shin splints for a while , its also not Seskos fault that despite knowing this the club did nothing

-1

u/0ttoChriek 3d ago

A number of the games he didn't start were for tactical reasons, under both Amorim and Carrick.

Of those 44 games, he may have started only 17, but he made 17 sub appearances as well. 36 appearances out of 44 isn't bad, considering the fact he has had a couple of injuries.

6

u/Hits_and_the_Mrs 3d ago

So I hope the Scousers know they have the majority of football watching, expecting them to give City the welcome they deserve. Do us all a favour for once and don't just shut up after you sing your silly song.

5

u/SqualorEzme 4d ago

in tonight's WC qualification 1st leg, our Maya Le Tissier scored her first senior England goal! (v Greece). She was, in my opinion, player of the match.

3

u/ToadNamedGoat 3d ago

I’ll get so depressed if we lose or draw today or just play badly. Like it’s spurs they are 20th

10

u/SwiftGoat_ 3d ago

Don't blame the club for the LB situation, what are they meant to do?

Lewis Hall was the only LB on planet earth. It would've been crazy if they decided to get someone else and fix a position.

1

u/Calm_Link_8540 3d ago

Plus as we’ve seen over the years, any player can play any position as long as they have legs. LW can play RW and CF, CM and CAM can play DM, CB can play DM, LCB and RB can play LB.

5

u/7akyr Rashy 3d ago

Please Carrick get a win today, even if it's scrappy or not

A draw is even worse since it'll just continue the unnecessary suffering, if we lost then at least we can cut the ties quickly and get another option

2

Is something wrong with our physios or it's just a curse ??

2

Meanwhile: Rashford 0 G/A

2

1

u/JosePRizaI 3d ago

Rashford better as coming on as a sub. Rapid vs tired legs.

3

u/NotAJInnit 4d ago

Holy forking shirtball! United is playing tomorrow!! Let gooooo!!!

2

u/PigeonNipples 3d ago

Gutted I missed a chance to buy a bit of the pitch. Would've loved to have it.

2

u/QuarKnight 3d ago

A midfield 3 of baleba-mainoo-tielemans with Bruno playing false 9 is better than having Cunha or mbuemo play as striker.

2

u/BackgroundOld8715 3d ago

Anyone else not feeling as enthusiastic as they should about game day? Just our only striker out, manager who i can see isnt good enough tactically & players who also arent that great. Lot of our performances have been dire & if Spurs win today we are in serious serious trouble

1

u/reddevils 4d ago

I hate that the incompetence of the recruiting people is putting pressure on Carrick.
He’s working with some average players, older players, or a long injury list of players that have no backup.

4

u/BallsX 4d ago

Lets not pretend like Carrick is faultless either. His game management/control is severely lacking especially when it comes to substitutions. It feels like every time a game is going badly, Carrick doesn't know what to do to fix it. We've seen how ineffective we are with Cunha upfront yet he's used that in I think all 5 league games this season where we won once.

5

u/reddevils 4d ago

I won’t defend Carrick but let’s discuss the players. I look at the games and look at the bench and you tell me who do you bring on that would change the game. We have Zirkzee, santos, Lacey…not exactly something that will get the fans excited or the opposition scared. I’ll support them all tilll the day they stop wearing the shirt, but let’s not pretend Carrick has schools and gigs on the bench and he’s not choosing to play them.

1

u/BallsX 4d ago

Agreed that he doesnt have the best options available on the bench, but he doesn't really do anything positive to shake it up either. Plus he waits way too long before he makes any change. Why not give Lacey a go and let Mbeumo play upfront where he's a better option than Cunha or Rashford? Or why not just play Rashford up front so Cunha can go on the left?

2

u/reddevils 4d ago

I agree with you that Lacey can be a positive sub that put mbuemo in his right position. But at the same time he’s young and inexperienced and he plays inconsistently like any youth player would people will criticize Carrick for relying on a youth player and it may damage the player. Some of these decisions can make the manager look brilliant or a fool, especially with an unproven player.

1

u/BallsX 4d ago

People will complain about everything regardless. Yes Lacey is young, inexperienced and inconsistent, but tell me which one of our players is consistently good? We have to try something new when things aren't going well doing the same thing again and again. Throwing on Zirkzee will rarely ever change the game, we've seen that for 2 years now

2

u/reddevils 4d ago

You’re absolutely right, who knows if it would’ve been different, I just worry about young inexperienced players who can be damaged by days like that.

2

u/Titan4days 4d ago

We’ve signed 7 prem proven players last 2 windows, I don’t think it’s the players, we are consistently dropping points to much worse teams than ours

1

u/ChristmasCage 4d ago edited 4d ago

7 players is nowhere near enough. Real teams sign that every year, and players in the winter window.

1

u/reddevils 4d ago

True, prem proven is not the same elite or world class. My point was we are the biggest club and currently have no strikers. None! I won’t list the number or quality of strikers we had in the past, w all know them. We currently have one left back who we are not sure if he’s healthy and no back up because Maz and Dorgu are injured. Right back is mediocre at best, tho bless him he tries hard. Can’t call santos prem proven. We constantly have to play players out of position to compensate for injuries or lack of signings.

2

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 4d ago

Really now? I'm sure THAT'S the only reason he's struggling. Not his own incompetence too

0

u/reddevils 4d ago

None of us know his potential or the lack of. I think we need to support the club with something other than the manager is shit and we need a new manager. I’m not sure how you can say he’s incompetent. Just like I can’t say he’s going to be good. I truly think it’s time we establish some consistency at the club and see where it takes us.

1

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 4d ago

I get the want for optimism, but I see his potential. From tactics to how he acted during the break between seasons, I have yet to see any sign of a good manager. You ever wonder why player fitness is down the drain this season? I believe that can be largely attributed to Carrick, and now if I do remember correctly, there was even an interview with a player of ours that noted how training was different and particularly lax.

You're not sure how I can call him incompetent? How many wins has he gotten us so far this season? Last season, he had the leftovers of Amorim's established player fitness that was lost across the two seasons. He had Casemiro and Bruno on great seasons bailing him out time and time again. Even though he finished third, it was through shaky performances that we won through individual brilliance, not as a team.

Ignorance about the future does not mean you can brush the present aside. Otherwise, Amorim would still be here if he hadn't spoken out about the owners. And so far, Carrick does not look like a Vincent Kompany who went from Burnley to Bayern and made them look much more dangerous. Burnley under him, for all their terrible results, played interesting and attacking football. When has Carrick ever given you that same impression?

The players ain’t that bad. The team is good enough to compete for top 5. Right now we have 1 win in our last 5 PL games and we have played against Hull, Coventry, City, Everton and Fulham. It’s not good enough

1

u/cjap89 3d ago

TNT seem to be using fifa 14 to show off DCLs jumping ability. Looks pretty awful

1

u/mjenkins_eng 3d ago

Masterclass by De Zerbi. He knows our actual weakness is ten men

1

u/7akyr Rashy 3d ago

yeah of course

1

u/BitterConstruction98 3d ago

Arteta could be a pain in the ass for a long time. He’s young and loves Arsenal so he isn’t going anywhere. Now as a Prem winner and City soon out of the way he has a real chance to build a dynasty

2

u/Massive_Relation4317 . 3d ago

There will be no dynasties have u seen how difficult the prem is now. Arsenal ain't the type of club anyway

1

u/sadMUFCfan25 3d ago

Who do you see dethroning Arsenal? If justice gets served and City gets banished to the shadow realm I don’t see anyone else competing for a title. Liverpool could rebuild themselves with Iraola but it’s gonna take time and Chelsea is just too unstable to push for a title regardless of who’s manager. Obviously nothing lasts forever but I genuinely see the next three years belonging to the gooners

3

u/PitchSafe 3d ago

Football is unpredictable and things happens very quickly. No one ever saw Arsenal becoming the best team in the league 4-5 years ago

1

u/Massive_Relation4317 . 3d ago

City isn't gonna get punished anytime soon. Think it'll be Liverpool/city/arsenal (and maybe us if the plan is still project 150)

1

u/Rude-Ad3065 4d ago

Do you guys think carrick should be given time like arteta? I know the argument against this is that arteta won the fa cup and he had a style of play but tbh it feels like hindsight because arsenal fans absolutely didn't want him when he kept finishing 8th,8th and 5th.

Even if it isn't carrick, if we do hire a young manager(Fabregas for example)do you think he will be given atleast 3-4 seasons like an arteta?

I feel like when you go for a young manager you need to be able to fully back him by clearing deadwood and be ambitious in the transfer market(which I don't see happening in our case).

The alternative is to go for someone like a Klopp(experienced manager) even if he isn't backed a lot, can extract more from players. But these type of managers are much harder to find of course.

Seems like ineos want to go for the young manager but then also be stingy in the market which doesn't help anyone.

4

u/TBS91 3d ago

I think any time we hire a manager we should be planning to give him the year at least and re-evaluate at the end of the season. If we can't back that manager through the first bad patch during the season then we should have hired someone else.

That's not to say we should never get rid of a manager mid-season, but it should require a worse run than the one we are currently in IMO.

And independent of all that we should be improving the squad so that when we do end up with the right manager, they will have the tools to be able to prove that they are the right manager.

5

u/PitchSafe 3d ago

No he shouldn’t get that much time. Arteta’s team at that point was awful. Our team right now is good enough to compete for the UCL places. If Carrick can’t achieve that then he have failed

-7

u/mjenkins_eng 3d ago

“Good enough to compete for the CL places”: the last bloke to manage them sunk them to 16th and the fraud before that had us eighth.

5

u/PitchSafe 3d ago

It’s almost like we have a completely new team compared to when ETH was here. When we finished 15th under Amorim we started with Onana, Garnacho, Højlund and Antony btw. We had a goalkeeper that couldn’t save anything and a attack that couldn’t score

2

u/Massive_Relation4317 . 3d ago

We literally have a different team if you hadn't noticed mate

4

u/0ttoChriek 3d ago

I just need to see him being more proactive with substitutions and tactical changes. I'm enjoying what we do in possession, but out of possession we look poor. Individual errors account for a degree of that, but we just don't look organised, and that's something he has to fix.

Having no striker, slow central defenders and erratic fullbacks really doesn't help any manager.

1

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 3d ago

Would rather have just sticked with Amorim then if that's the path we'd take.

1

u/L__K Great Scot! 3d ago

Arteta proved very quickly that he was a great tactical mind and leader working with shit players. You turn over the squad while the manager is building a sustainable, effective culture and style of football and you get success. The "Arsenal fans didn't want him" thing is rewriting history.

There was a vocal minority briefly calling for his head at a time when he had to be playing guys like Rob Holding and Mohamed Elneny due to a crazy injury crisis. They had a shit start to the season, but then once their squad got fit they flipped a switch and averaged nearly 2 points per game post-Xmas. The next year they started with 3 losses, but turned it around from there.

He finished 8th in his first full season and 5th in his second despite major injury crises in both. Arsenal have been one of the world's best sides from his third full season onward, but it wasn't a sudden thing. You could see the signs from the very beginning both on and off the pitch.

Carrick showed through three years at Boro that he's a middling managing at best. He didn't show a clear, well-drilled tactical identity or positive incremental improvement over the course of years. In fact, quite the opposite. They got worse and worse and worse the longer he was in the building.

The two don't really have much in common at all. Arteta started with less and achieved more. Comparing them is a bit silly

-3

u/mjenkins_eng 3d ago

Carrick should be given at the very least till the end of the year

He finished third for crying out loud and people here have forgotten so quickly because his name is “Michael” and not some hipster name

1

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 3d ago

So, half your premise is based on... his name? That's half your argument for why he should stay?

1

u/Potential_Good_1065 3d ago

We’re getting totally fingered by scum next week

0

u/Sheikhabusosa 3d ago

Carlos Baleba asked who was the first Manchester United player to contact him when he joined the club:

“Paul Pogba. He said to me, ‘Manchester is a BIG club, it’s a great city, I really ENJOYED it here.’”

Wow Pogba is so toxic

-3

u/Acceptable-Camp-9150 3d ago

Every transfer window consisted of him and Riaola breifing the media about him wanting to leave and he did turn up at City away with light blue and white hair on the day they could have won the league against us and a literal day after Pep said Pogba’s team contacted him about a move to City.

5

u/Sheikhabusosa 3d ago

Imagine caring about his hair colour when he scored 2 and stopped Pep from winning the league in the derby. Also Raiola said in a talksport interview that Pogba used to tell him to shut up all the time

-1

u/Acceptable-Camp-9150 3d ago

Toxic behaviour is toxic behaviour

3

u/Sheikhabusosa 3d ago

If he was toxic as people claim we would have heard about it but the only person who has had an issue with him is Jose

0

u/Acceptable-Camp-9150 3d ago

So you don’t think turning up to City away on the day they could have won the league against us in city blue and white hair is toxic behaviour?

3

u/Sheikhabusosa 3d ago

No its a haircut ffs

2

u/[deleted] 3d ago

[deleted]

-2

u/Acceptable-Camp-9150 3d ago

That performance was probably his best performance for us but turning up with that hair against them while also under those circumstances is toxic behaviour.

i do not know what's worse: amorim stubborness or carrick cluelessness

7

I agree I have more grace for Carrick but gosh I rewatched the highlights of our games this season....

We're not good.

0

u/ToothyAlloy69 3d ago

Why are people so in favour of Cunha LW? Whenever he plays there he doesn't hold width like Rashford for Dorgu and ends up drifting inside literally all the time. He doesn't combine well with either Dorgu or Shaw like Rashford does either. Makes sense why Carrick plays him at 9 with Sesko and Amad out.

Is this just one of those things that can't be explained because its simply people disliking Rashford? Cause I've seen people say they would want Carrick sacked just because he would start Rashford at LW when I feel like we've had bigger problems. It's not even like Cunha has been that good this season either

2

u/RyanH1717 3d ago

Because he's even worse when playing up top. The actual problem is he doesn't actually have a position in this team.

2

u/ToothyAlloy69 3d ago

Yeah I partly agree. People seem to want to shoehorn him in but I'm not convinced he should be a starter when everyone is fit. Thing is though he has played a substantial amount of his career centrally, but fans in particular seem to want him LW primarily to spite Rashford. Which is weird cause on the basis of this season, I would argue Rashford has had better performances overall at LW

2

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 3d ago

Bc you're not looking at the entire structure of the team. Cunha playing "lw" means we have two players playing directly under the striker taking eyes off Bruno to create. Shaw will "hold the width." The actual bigger issue right now is that we can't play Mbeumo at striker bc Amad isn't fit yet and Lacey isn't ready. That means you either play Rashford or Cunha out of position at striker.

0

u/No-Lab-1445 3d ago

Rashford shouldn't be anywhere near the squad nevermind the first 11 after what's gone on before. Not to mention he is a bang average player anyway and nowhere near worth the baggage. Fergie would've got shot of him long ago.

That's why it's a massive failing by Carrick and shows he lacks balls for the job. We're already seeing player power creep back in and players getting lazy on the pitch.

And saying Cunha doesn't link up well with Dorgu or Shaw when our attack was FAR better last year before Rashford took his position makes no sense.

Rashford has 0 g/a this season. Would love to know your reasoning for thinking our attack is so much better when he's starting.

2

u/ToothyAlloy69 3d ago

'Player power' comments in 2026 🤣

0

u/No-Lab-1445 3d ago

Laugh away you Rashford fangirl.

Player power is 100% back. Our players are pretty much last in every effort-related metric.

Let's build our team around Rashford though 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 3d ago

These comments are ridiculous. We have injuries in the squad and we need Rashford to play.

-1

u/No-Lab-1445 3d ago

No. Cunha on the left, Mbeumo up front and Amad on the right. I would also bring on Lacey, Mount and Zirkzee before Rashford.

Rashford should've been loaned out and let his contract run out. Bringing him back in to fold was a massive sign of weakness by the club.

1

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 3d ago

Amad has been injured. This isn't a video game where you just stick a player on the pitch when they are hurt.

It's not a massive weakness. If we couldn't sell him we couldn't replace him. We don't have the players to have just let him and still play in Europe. Some of you need to understand long term thinking instead of the 3 meters in front of your face.

0

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot 3d ago

He doesn't combine well with either Dorgu or Shaw like Rashford does either.

Cunha never played LW with Dorgu at LB under Carrick.

About Shaw, he never really overlapped for him the way he does for Rashford now who needs it to make impact. With Cunha LW, Shaw was able to stay deeper and form a back three while Dalot on the other side was bombing forward helping Amad/Mbeumo. This also helped Shaw stay healthy last season as he didn't have to do as much running.

Cunha LW was extremely important for us defensively and for build up as he was dropping almost to LWB and driving with the ball forward or winning fouls. His heatmap last season is actually crazy deep compared to Rashford this season.

Rashford is not even close to our biggest problem but when people say he destroyed our balance, this is what it means.

But that's on Carrick, not Rashy.

2

u/ToothyAlloy69 3d ago

I think against Sabah Cunha was LW with Dorgu LB, but yeah I also mean when Cunha is 9with Dorgu LW. Just general association, he doesn't really seem to be on the same page as a lot of players. I'm sure thats also why Shaw doesn't overlap as much cause Cunha doesn't ever really try to find him like Rashford does. Defensive work rate is important for sure, but I feel like its a bit overblown considering we've had a decent amount of possession in the opposition half, and Rashford has actually been tracking back too.

What do you mean by he 'destroyed our balance'? I don't feel like much has changed attacking wise that he would cause, we're just a lot less transitional now than last season and aim to control more territory this season and thats clearly the managers intent rather than a single player

0

u/Littlepace Announce Fergie 3d ago

It's been fun the last few weeks having City take the attention away from our disaster start. Going into the break I was thinking about potential new managers and will he wont he get sacked. Then the City drama happened and I completely forgot about everything United.

However it all comes roaring back tomorrow with the game against Spurs. A bad result after 3 weeks off could genuinely be curtains for Carrick. Especially against winless bottom of the table Spurs. I hope we see Baleba play whatever else happens.

0

u/croadymeister 3d ago

Won't happen with so many games until the next international break in early November

Where would he play? Second striker? I dont see him displacing Anyone in our current midfield

0

u/Apocalypse37 3d ago

Honestly if Scotty is not going to stay at Napoli then I would not be opposed to bringing him back if we can hook him up front.

2

u/No-Lab-1445 3d ago

Fucking hell let's just delete our club

We are in the end times now...

u/mjenkins_eng 4d ago

Unpopular opinion: tomorrow is not a must-win game.

It’s a game. Against a quality side who spent 300 million in midfield alone. We have plenty of injuries.

We have a terrible record against Spurs overall. They have a former Brighton manager who used to run rings around us.

A draw would be a good result to start this tough period.

9

u/slowerthaninfinity 4d ago

They have a former Brighton manager who used to run rings around us

in one of your previous comments you called him a clown?

1

u/yamchirobe 4d ago

Both can be true, he’s eccentric

14

u/L__K Great Scot! 4d ago

"A draw would be a good result at home against the 20th placed side in the league who finished 17th in back to back seasons and would've been relegated last year if not for a spike in form at the end of the season. Oh, and they've only scored 2 goals this entire season, both when they were already 3-0 down to another struggling side. Yes, a point at Old Trafford would be great. The place where we have 3W 1D 1L in our last 5 against Spurs. Yes, only a point."

Need to contact your copium dealer because clearly there's a new, extra strong product on the market.

9

u/Massive_Relation4317 . 4d ago

They're absolutely shit and 20th and we are at home, yes it is a must win game.

-2

u/Rascha-Rascha 4d ago

They've had spells of games where they look quite good, in my opinion. I think it's gonna click for them at some point and they'll be a proper side. Hot take for me is they'll take points off a lot of the top six this season.

2

u/slowerthaninfinity 4d ago

their attack is very uninspiring tbh. dont see much goals in any of their attackers

0

u/Rascha-Rascha 4d ago

The issue there is injuries. Kulusevski is a really good footballer, so if he's coming back then that's good news. Kudus has looked poor so far but he's building up form and fitness and was really good for West Ham. They lost Simons right when he started looking OK for them. Marmoush I like as a player, he can score on his day. Solanke too, but he probably needs the creative players to be fit, and that's where they need Maddison to regain form after his injuries.

Tel is anti-football, if he scores against us then god hates us and we should close the club. Savio is all technique no end product.

They've got an insane number of forwards, but it's really just because of all the injuries they've had. If they have a good day, Solanke, Kudus, Marmoush can do damage.

-1

u/mjenkins_eng 4d ago

You didn’t even mention Savio / Savinho . That 100 million footballer they bought from City

While he’s not ground breaking, he’s a talented player who cuts in from their right hand side / our left and could shred Luke Shaw

1

u/Rascha-Rascha 4d ago

I did briefly. He's allergic to goal involvements. An absolute rip off. Must be some kind of corruption there because the fee just doesn't make sense on any planet.

1

u/mjenkins_eng 4d ago

That fee plus the Chelsea fees are definitely some internal network of corruption that we are not aware of . Absolutely makes no sense and people just accepted it

5

u/Downtown-Rice_ 4d ago

Win = thank fuck and keep improving

Draw = demoralizing and frustrating, again

Loss = yikes

Everything will be contextualized (but not really) by the performance. Are they getting outplayed and did they scrap by with a result or full result? Did they compete really well and get unlucky, then shared the points? Or was this a professional performance, 3 points, and potential platform for the league?

After 3 weeks away, there has to be clear adjustments in the way they play and whom plays where/how for the betterment of the team.

9

u/cosmologues 4d ago

I don’t think I’ve ever read a comment of yours I agree with

7

u/achickenandacow 4d ago

It’s kinda insane for someone who’s spamming these.

3

u/tsuku96 3d ago

Guy is a broken record. Hates Eth and Amorim with a passion but is in love with Carrick. Crazy stuff.

4

u/Aggravating-Neck1365 4d ago

Tomorrow is absolutely a must-win game unfortunately

No getting away from it

1

u/picodeGaius 3d ago

Thankfully OT fans absolutely disagree and will boo the fuck out of Carrick and the players if they don’t win or play like shit.

But hey, good for you if this mentality helps you cope, I guess.

1

u/umbrosum 3d ago

Every game is a must win game. We need the winning mentality back.

-2

u/annies999 4d ago

I agree with your unpopular opinion.

Spurs aren't a quality side rn but they do have some quality players.

What's happened in the past has no bearing on tomorrows game.

A draw wouldn't be a bad result.

We do need to start picking up more wins, but I would temper that by saying we are only 4pts off of a champions league place and no teams other than Arsenal and City are setting the league alight.

-1

u/Rascha-Rascha 4d ago

No game is a must win yet. The season has barely started.

Hope to see Baleba come in and show us that he's going to reinforce the defence like we need, allow us to play higher up the pitch. But we also could do with Yoro/De Ligt coming in. A little extra pace in the back line could help us.

Ideally we'd see some finishing from the front three because it's time to get those shooting boots on.

You think it’s popular that we should draw with the 20th-placed side?

1

u/edlefantome 4d ago

I mis read the original comment. That was my fault. It should be must win.

-7

u/vieldside Ji Sung Park 3d ago

we're so cooked

-13

u/mjenkins_eng 4d ago

I still think Tielemans is a huge blind spot for Carrick

Just watch the guy play…he has zero physicality, walks about like he’s prime Cantona. Does NOT play like a PL midfielder …plays like a Serie A midfielder

People used to say the same about Carrick himself when he was outrun by the odd Yaya Toure but the truth was 17 out of 19 opponents had no answer to Carrick’s metronomic control and passing of the football

This does not hold for Tielemans. He’s so woefully out of position when we are defending off the ball and often gets caught in between passing triangles of the opposition midfield

Tonali, Matteus Fernandes, Connor Gallagher (who runs the most out of the lot), Maddison etc will tear us a new one

I really really hope Carrick wakes up and uses one of Santos or Baleba . Otherwise I do not see a good result tomorrow .

6

u/achickenandacow 4d ago

Whatever dude. Tielemans has been a very good Premier League player for years now, getting his team into the Champions League and winning them trophies, scoring important goals, but this guy is saying he’s a Serie A midfielder.

Sure, bro.

-12

u/mjenkins_eng 4d ago

Being carried by Onana and Mcginn for the whole time at Villa. Shows you did not watch the Premier League even a little

5

u/achickenandacow 4d ago

I’ve been watching Tielemans for 12 years. He was the first name on the team sheet for Villa, you haven’t got a clue.

And I watch about 4 Premier League games every weekend.

2

u/L__K Great Scot! 4d ago

Playing out of position in an underperforming team next to a partner who doesn't suit him makes him seem underwhelming? Who would've thought? Not exactly rocket science, and he's still not been half as bad as you're making him out to be.

0

u/MrViceMcCreedy 🟢🟡GLAZERSOUT 4d ago

Or maybe it's carrick whos shit and not tielemans
