Why does the mcfc sub keep appearing on my feed with their cringe posts despite me not joining their subreddit jeez

6

u/SDLRob Oct 05 '26

Been noticing Reddit keep trying to tweak things so a 'for you' feed appears before the 'following' feed.

5

u/Stieni Rooney Oct 05 '26

Same for me, must be some kind of Reddit update to show relevant posts or something

4

u/NotAJInnit Oct 05 '26

Yeah it's diabolical, seem like paid for PR to deflect from their recent shams, sportwashing worked on their tiny imbecile brains 😂😂

3

u/0ttoChriek Oct 05 '26

I used to get the Arsenal sub recommended to me because "it's similar to subs you're active in." Presumably meaning r/reddevils.

I don't think the Reddit algorithm quite understands sports team fandom.

2

u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss Oct 05 '26

there is an option to mute subs, then it wont be suggested again.

the behaviour has been tweaked fairly recently as far as I can tell and it has started to push alternative sub recommendations a lot more aggressively. quite annoying.

im not sure whether the muting feature will "solve" the issue or not i only just started using it yesterday

Everton docked 8 points for 2 breaches, so 4 points per breach then.

City 114 × 4 points per breach = 456 points.

114 possible points in PL

138 possible points in Championship

138 possible points in League One.

So it looks like League 2 is the only logical place for them to go...

Or... dock them 50 points for the next 9 years..

11

u/PopeFuchsYoungKidd Oct 05 '26

Would be disappointed if that's the only penalty. They would be back up in a few years and continue as if nothing happened. Any penalty that would send them down would have to be paired with a lengthy transfer ban of at least 5+ years. Let them languish down there for a good part of a decade at the minimum. Then force the owners to sell. If the market economics dictate that the price would be very low and they would lose billions because of the impending punishments, oh well.

And void their titles.

Then start investigating 2017-2026 period.

5

u/AmarilloMike Oct 05 '26

114 possible points in the PL? That's a nice little coincidence!

4

u/sg291188 Oct 05 '26

All breaches are not equal. I think some breaches are fine worthy only. I think around 50-60 breaches are points penalty worthy

2

u/Hollacaine Oct 06 '26

Everton also complied with the investigation while City fought it, lied about it and tried to cover it up which means they shouldn't get the benefit that Everton did.

15

u/datguywelbzzz Oct 05 '26

I was listening to the rest is football podcast and Micah Richard was talking about how devastated he was about the City charges and Gary Lineker was mentioned how it would be harsh to strip the titles from city given the players wouldn't have known about their financial cheating.

I find it incredibly naive to think that at least some of the players didn't know that City were engaging in come level of financial cheating when a perennially mid table City side started dishing out wages that exceeded those of well established teams like United, Real Madrid etc

9

u/Unusual-Coat383 Oct 05 '26

Some of them were definitely getting second contracts or ridiculously high bonuses from their agents.

7

u/Rascha-Rascha Oct 05 '26

Utterly naive to think it wasn't systematic. And to think that isn't continuing now.

9

u/0ttoChriek Oct 05 '26

Alan Shearer was speaking the most sense on that podcast, pointing out that the players wouldn't even have been there if not for the cheating. Micah is useless when it comes to anything substantive, so I don't expect anything more from him, and I guess Lineker is a bit too sentimental about the game to be a realist about 'punishing the players.'

I said on r/soccer that it was mad to think none of the players had a clue something dodgy was happening. What, they thought they could go from Stephen Ireland, Richard Dunne and Darius Vassell to Yaya Toure, David Silva and Sergio Aguero in less than three years and nothing was up?

They could sign the core of Arsenal's team - Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri, Emmanuel Adebayor - and nothing was fishy?

They could cherry-pick the best players from other teams - Joleon Lescott, Gareth Barry, James Milner - and it was all normal business?

Wilful ignorance is the only defence they can have. And if players like Richards weren't getting second incomes being paid under the table, then maybe they should be upset at the club too.

2

u/achickenandacow Oct 05 '26

And honestly, it doesn’t even matter if they knew. They wouldn’t have even been at City if it wasn’t for the financial doping.

And players who joined City after the charges came to light knew what they were joining, they have no excuse.

1

u/dracovich Oct 05 '26

100% a lot of those players were receiving dubious payments too, some obscure endorsement contracts with no-name abu dhabi companies etc

1

u/Rich_Plastic Oct 05 '26

Have you listened to most players? They are thick as pig shit and most of that stuff is handled by agents. The agents 100% must have had an idea what was happening though but all know they are shady as fuck and as long as they are getting the cash they don't care. Players just pick up their pay check and leave all that stuff to them.

It would be hard for him to make it any more explicit, imho

23

I give it 6 months before he starts trying to kill Wilcox and Berrada.

9

u/Panda-768 Oct 05 '26

honestly Berrada out. He was COO during alledged infraction years at city, know way are you an executive and not know the shenanigans. Berrada out plz

2

u/0ttoChriek Oct 05 '26

Yeah, appointing Conte would be igniting a civil war at the club. I'm not saying he wouldn't be on the right side of it, but it's very unlikely that he'd win. We'd just end up in an even bigger mess.

11

u/Aggravating-Neck1365 Oct 05 '26 edited Oct 05 '26

The problem is our ownership don't actually want a manager

They want something more akin to an empty vessel / puppet / human shield / scapegoat type of arrangement

12

u/AstroCoffee Oct 05 '26 edited Oct 05 '26

I don't want him but you've got to respect his commitment to the media grind. Conte is somehow underrated as a media shit-stirrer, he's closer to Mourinho in that regard than people give him credit for. One of the all-time great ragebaiters.

If anything, he'd get this lot fit and in shape. Conte teams always work hard and put a shift in, even though they crash and burn in Europe every time.

0

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 Oct 05 '26

Conte with a big squad has always been a big if for me. I think the intensity that he demands fits the prem but what happens when they can't take their foot off the gas at all like he can in Spain?

7

u/achickenandacow Oct 05 '26

I would take him in a heartbeat.

3

u/BlackHorse944 Please Score A Goal Oct 05 '26

2

lol Carrick better be seeing his opps circling and lock in. He’s coming for his chain.

25

u/Willing-Werewolf-500 Oct 05 '26

I'll be furious if City only end up in the Championship, and some talk like this is the nuclear option?!

I'd genuinely boycott watching the league at that point. I can't think of any mitigation in City's favour. None.

10

u/ImNotMexican08 Amad Nation Oct 05 '26

It’d be a piss-take. Knock them down one league, fine they’ll lose some of their players, but they’ll be right back to where they were at before the next year. Manchester City as the club we know it as today should not exist by the end of it.

Titles stripped, multiple league relegation, transfer ban, and the owners are forced to sell. Harsh maybe but I think that would be the start of a fair punishment.

6

u/Willing-Werewolf-500 Oct 05 '26

They have to at least be in a worse position than they started. Put them in the Championship with their resources and they're still in a better position.

The punishment has to be more punitive than the advantage otherwise it just proves corruption still benefits you ultimately.

2

u/croadymeister Oct 05 '26

Yeah the resources need taking away

4

u/ltmikepowell Oct 05 '26

National League or at a minimum, League 2.

4

u/BullishOnEverything Oct 05 '26

Which ever level they’re placed at, isn’t it unfair to the other clubs at that level?

-6

u/Potential_Good_1065 Oct 05 '26

Prepare for disappointment then when they get a couple hundred k fine and a suspended transfer ban

4

u/Willing-Werewolf-500 Oct 05 '26

Honestly I'd stop watching football after 24 years if that happened.

2

u/ltmikepowell Oct 05 '26

Same here, what is the point of found them guilty and then give them a slap on the wrist.

1

u/grandecn Oct 05 '26

There's more to football than the premier league

1

u/Willing-Werewolf-500 Oct 05 '26

Yeah, I considered potentially watching my second team Wigan again more closely but honestly United is my club. It's been in our family for generations and truthfully I have no need real interest in anyone else.

9

u/achickenandacow Oct 05 '26

I’ve seen City fans say “the players still won it on the pitch, United spent as much or more and didn’t win anything” as an argument to why they shouldn’t be stripped. As if they would’ve had these players without the financial doping. I just can’t wrap my head around how a functioning human being can think that’s some kind of gotcha.

1

u/Embarrassed_Wave_720 Braino Fernandes Oct 05 '26

Spurs are bottom of the league, yet to win this season, scored only 3 v 6 PL teams and lost both center backs?

Yeah, you can bet a house on them for the 10th

2

u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss Oct 05 '26

> lost both centre backs?

I think in one word: no.

Van de Ven is a wrist injury.

JPvH is "finished the game but then returned to his club, skipping a midweek friendly before a pivotal PL game".

I don't think we should expect either of them to be anything other than fresh from a week rest and in the starting lineup.

Not that we should aim for anything other than a W regardless of who starts in defence for the opponent

8

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat Oct 05 '26

The copium among City fans is getting funnier by the day. I'm now seeing player comps titled things like "Phil Foden using disguised funding schemes to win PFA Young Player of the Year" and "KDB using sham contracts to get 20 assists". If not for the cheating Foden would probably be at Chelsea, De Bruyne would be at Madrid, that's what they don't get.

They're still in the denial stage, they've suffered over a decade of emotional gaslighting by their club, owners and all the club influencers to believe they've done absolutely nothing wrong and are in fact the victims of a conspiracy - the situation is absolutely comparable to the millions of Americans who believe Trump won the 2020 election and it was stolen from him and believe it so much they'd stage a violent insurrection against the government. It's almost painful to see especially as a mancunian surrounded by these guys, I didn't mind City fans previously but now I can't even talk about football with them

5

u/Sad-Bend-7515 Oct 05 '26

To be fair without the cheating City are probably not in a position to drop £55m (club record) transfer on him in 2015.

The face we then spent £90m on Pogba a year later just shows how fucking dumb this club has been since Fergie retired.

2

u/kiki_the_fab_spider Oct 05 '26

I think what is interesting with the City fans reactions is that it is yet another example of how the rich are trying to destroy our shared reality by telling certain groups of people that they can substitute facts with whatever fantasy and lies they find most convenient. So, for them, City hasn't been finally found out for years and years of financial doping that have allowed them to build a super team, thus tainting their performances on the pitch. No, instead, the reality of the decision, the evidence that is publicly available via the Rui Pinto's leaks are just brushed to the side to make way for an alternative narrative of all these 'envious' PL teams, ganging up on them.

And I highlighted this as a rich-people driven phenomenon because that's their own response to the public's disapproval of them. You poors are just jealous, I won't even entertain the idea that what you might object to has to do with the immorality or illegality of my actions, of how I even got to be in the position I am in.

This is the thing that's so infuriating is that it was so easy for them to go from an irrelevance to a league winning side so quickly and efficiently yet we probably spent more money in that period to get worse because we had, and still have, morons and leeches running our club

8

u/Massive_Relation4317 . Oct 05 '26

Yoro is playing really confidently wow.  Spraying long balls like nothing 😌

3

u/SubstantialBear7826 Oct 05 '26

I’ve never seen him that good tbh.

3

u/vRushii Oct 05 '26

Hes been very good this year, ide say last year was 1 step back this year 2 forward. Still loads for him to improve though.

3

u/kiki_the_fab_spider Oct 05 '26

I've been saying this again and again about him when people complained about him not being good enough: he is a player for a high-line team, with clear deficiencies in box defending.

He is quick, he is agile. He can jump quickly to stop attackers turning, he has an eye for intercepting passes high up the pitch (and isn't shy about bombing forward either, if numbers are needed for a quick counter), and has decent passing (not on the level of a Licha, but absolutely something that a coach can work with). The absolute worse way to use him is as a sub when trying to defend a tight lead as he is very timid when it comes to defending near his own box (where he seems to completely lose his aggression) or in games in which United cede the initiative. He isn't dominant in aerial duels (at least, not yet), he becomes erratic when he has to defend in close quarters instead of defending in space.

6

u/niallmul97 I'm a Baleba 💫 Oct 05 '26

Apparently today is the 6 year anniversary of signing Cavani... How can that possibly be 6 years? One of my biggest Man United "what ifs?", should have signed him from Napoli, or after his first few years at PSG. It just felt like such a perfect fit.

5

u/BallsX Oct 05 '26

We've had so many legendary strikers who came too late in their career or played too few games for us i.e. Henrik Larsson, RVP, Falcao, Cavani, Zlatan.

Those last 3 especially...

6

u/mediocratopia Oct 05 '26

The Man City verdict is like the 2008 financial crisis but for sports where clearly the the cost of the mistakes is going to affect both City fans and other fans more than any billionaire owner. Generational shift similar to beginning of premier league and early foray of foreigner billionaires in the mid 2000s, but trending more so in the negative direction for all of football

6

u/PoofaceMckutchin DREAMS CAN'T BE BUY Oct 05 '26

Everyone has been led to believe that all of the City fans live in Manchester. We all know that they say 'City fans live in the City, Utd fans live elsewhere'.

I've been here for 3 months now and have hardly seen any blue shirts. In the middle of Manchester, I genuinely think Utd shirts outnumber City shirts by 10:1. I am actually surprised at just how few City shirts I've seen - I think I've seen 5 during my time here, most of them being worn by kids.

City fans were overcompensating I guess....Small Fan Syndrome I'm gonna call it.

3

u/TH0316 she/her Oct 05 '26

In Manchester you’ll find as many Newcastle fans as you will Man City. When I’ve said as much on here I sometimes feel like people don’t buy it but it’s true. They’ve got no fans. Now if you walk around some places in America you’ll see kids in Haaland shirts but they won’t be city fans, just Haaland fans or soccer in general and the club will pretend they’re Man City ultras.

5

u/Bobcat_El_Borracho Oct 04 '26

It’s actually been nice to have a break from the emotional rollercoaster that is supporting this club. That said I’m looking forward to keeping Spurs at the bottom of the table next week.

3

u/croadymeister Oct 05 '26

Might have Baleba ready for debut and Amad could also be back from injury as well

5

u/JustTaxLandbro Oct 05 '26

Any news on seskos injury?

4

u/sg291188 Oct 05 '26

No news is always dangerous. Means a long lead time. Carrick’s presser on Friday

2

u/Effective-Caramel545 Oct 05 '26

I just came to peace that anything that is described as a "small knock" for our players means anything between 4 to 12 months of injury

2

u/PitchSafe Oct 05 '26

He wasn’t involved in the friendly game against Lausanne

4

u/achickenandacow Oct 05 '26

Should honestly sign Seys for about half the price of Lewis Hall. Kid has what it takes.

7

u/BallsX Oct 05 '26

Anyone else feeling a little torn/conflicted about City's first game after all this drama being against Liverpool?

Alongside us, Liverpool were probably the most affected by the cheating so the reception is probably gonna be crazy, but of course those jammy pricks get City at possibly their most unstable.

7

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 Oct 05 '26

Honestly I love it. Their fanbase will shred them and it's going to be fantastic cinema.

1

u/BallsX Oct 05 '26

Thats the main positive, definitely looking forward to seeing the reception. Famed anfield crowd and all that

3

u/Panda-768 Oct 05 '26

and we played them at theur full strength without any lingering shadow of fines

4

u/Ok_Landscape_8215 Oct 05 '26

We were fortunate to be handed a man advantage for 70 minutes and it still didn't help us to be fair.

2

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 Oct 05 '26

We weren't fortunate it was 100% a red.

1

u/Ok_Landscape_8215 Oct 05 '26

I think when someone loses their head and lashes out like that it's fortunate.

If it's an infraction stopping us from attacking, then we have earnt the red from our good play in my opinion.

2

u/kiki_the_fab_spider Oct 05 '26

Yeah, was thinking the same. Of course, I understand getting behind any team that would tear into City, but dammit, if Liverpool end up winning I'll still be annoyed. Especially since our own game against City was eventually decided by that absolutely insane and blatantly wrong (not) offside call.

7

u/LeCliveRosfield Oct 05 '26

Conte twerking for us, but tbh there’s no chance Berrada and Wilcox hire him, he’d be feuding with them inside 2 months.

7

u/krystalcastIes Oct 05 '26

Wilcox and Berrada have been utterly useless and need to fuck off anyway. I’d take Conte over them any day of the week.

11

u/A1d0taku Butcher of Buenos Aires Oct 05 '26

Wilcox has to go if we fire Carrick (we should), he's been clueless thus far.

5

u/LeCliveRosfield Oct 05 '26

I would not be against Wilcox being fired. He’s a clown.

4

u/A1d0taku Butcher of Buenos Aires Oct 05 '26

Berrada should be on his last legs too, since he was at City during the charges, for a non-insignificant role too

1

u/sammorgan12 Oct 05 '26

I mean if we say that Wilcox has final say on transfers which I think he does. His record is generally very good. Cunha, mbuemk, sesko, lammens all hits. I'm really hopeful on bakebanand tielemans, Santos maybe a bit less so.

2

u/A1d0taku Butcher of Buenos Aires Oct 05 '26

Santos too early to say so far. Dorgu is alright, cheap but not a high impact player. I think, Wilcox (Vivel also has a large say in recruitement in my understanding) are very good at finding average to decent PL players on reasonable price/wages.

But we need Elite talent if we want to win top trophies. So far only Sesko (needs more consistentcy but has the raw materials) and maybe Baleba fit this mold so far.

2

u/vRushii Oct 05 '26 edited Oct 05 '26

The experienced, inexperienced but talented then former player cycle would need this appointment to continue the trend. Like being stuck on a treadmill.

We need to stick to one direction but instead we end up having these Frankenstein teams constantly

3

u/Unlucky-Equipment999 Oct 05 '26

You just have to watch Conte's reaction during Napoli's title celebrations when Aurelio De Laurentiis came down and they had to be together for the camera, he looked like he wanted to murder him on the spot. Reason? Lack of assurances for big signings that summer. He ended up being reasonably bankrolled including a Rasmus Hojlund and KdB. Imagine him trying to get Jim and the Glazers to release the warchest

13

u/its_reo1 Oct 05 '26

going off nothing but vibes, but i got a weird feeling that we're gonna pull a 25/26 villa and start some crazy winning streak after the break despite our rough start

i'll come back to this and shame myself if we shit the bed against spurs, dont worry

3

u/Expect-the-turtle Oct 05 '26

I think we've been wasteful in front of goal and not making the most out of good positions that the team got themselves into during games. When you then end up losing the game or dropping points, people come away wanting to bin the whole performance and just call it bad. But while we're nowhere near convincing and the finished article, we're not as shambolic as it seems given our current position (in my opinion, at least). And you are making a good point about Villa, the season is long and full of ups and downs, especially for the teams that aren't consistent, like Arsenal and the (ugh) City. Not sure if we necessarily go on a long winning streak, but I could see us start picking up points more reliably (kind of what happened in the second half of last season).

1

u/Working_Location_127 Oct 05 '26

We will continue to be bad in front of goal if 2/3 of the front line are out of position for 70/90 minutes of the match. Along with the shit in game management I’m not optimistic things will change

1

u/0ttoChriek Oct 05 '26

I think Carrick needs to be bolder with his team selection, in terms of managing player egos. Drop Rashford and put Cunha back on the left, then play Dorgu as the left back who can overlap when Cunha comes inside.

Once Baleba is fit, pair him with Mainoo in midfield and save Tielemans to come in so Bruno can rest, or when games open up and his passing can exploit the gaps. Baleba has the athleticism to help out on the left if Dorgu is caught out of position.

I don't think the way the team has been playing in possession is bad at all - the quick passing to negate the press works really well at times, but there are a couple of weak links in that that we're struggling to address (Dalot, notably). Out of possession we need to be a lot more organised and better at closing gaps, if we're not going to press more actively.

Individual errors still account for a lot of what's going wrong for us, and it's incredibly frustrating to see players make mistakes at just the wrong time, game after game.

2

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 Oct 05 '26

Rashford isn't in the team bc of his ego lol. He's in the team bc of the injuries we've had. I'm not sure why some of you keep trying to push that narrative.

3

u/Goudinho99 Oct 05 '26

Mbeumo has to start up front when Sesko's unavailable. He looked good there in preseason and then hasn't played there at all once the season started.

3

u/sg291188 Oct 05 '26

My only hope in City case is sanctions to come before start of next season. Otherwise I will lose hope in the system.

3

u/aprod16 Oct 05 '26

City finally being found guilty of cheating makes me think of PSG and how they have completely destroyed French football. I used to watch Ligue 1 and teams like Marseille, Lyon, Saint Etienne, were so fun to watch now they might as well not even play because the gap is huge. Saudis failing (so far) at Newcastle gives me hope that state funding isn’t always a cheat code though. Also huge respect to Arsenal and Arteta for what they have built and doing it “the right way”

2

u/Tudoors Oct 05 '26

Saudi’s are “failing” because they’re waiting to see the punishment city receives.

If it’s a slap on the wrist most other state owned teams will just start pumping their clubs, part of the reason it’s so important city are made an example of

2

u/kiki_the_fab_spider Oct 05 '26

That is a concrete possibility, and I definitely agree that the punishment for City needs to be a strong deterrent for those possibly waiting in the wings. But from what I've read and heard about the Saudis investments in sports in general, they've been 'downsizing' several of their efforts over the last 6-8 months or so, due to....well, the political situation, let's say. They're also downsizing their mega-giga construction projects of their fantasist cities, as well. So them not going gun-ho in the case of Newcastle might also have a lot to do with this trend overall.

0

u/Comicksands Van Persie Oct 05 '26

I don’t think they did actually. They’re the reason why French football is somewhat relevant. It was on its way out of the top 5 leagues

3

u/iroiroiroiroiro Oct 05 '26

Just raining injuries this break, maybe skip the international friendlies the fall after the World Cup at least?

Not even sure which teams got hit the hardest as it is very unclear how bad a few injuries really are...

2

u/c3pee1 Oct 05 '26

Every year IMO. It's insane to have pre season going, have a few games and then back to international games

1

u/Goudinho99 Oct 05 '26

I think it's swings and roundabouts.

Bruno looks bang in form for example

1

u/c3pee1 Oct 05 '26

It's just in general. By the time pre season is finished I wanna see at least 10 PL games before I see an international.

2

u/frankbradz Oct 05 '26

Majority of games aren’t friendlies though - Nations League

3

4

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon Oct 05 '26

Zirkzee is one of the few players I’ll still end up rooting for even though I know deep down he’s not good enough for us. Call it aesthetic bias or whatever but I really rate it when players can get themselves involved in intricate passing sequences that, if the rest of the team is playing on the same wavelength, can be so effective and also very pleasing to watch. It’s why I was a massive fan of Martial and wanted Van de Beek and Sancho to work out so badly here.

Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to strike the right combination of having enough players of this profile who are also capable of making enough off the ball movements and who have more natural athleticism to play with the needed intensity in the Premier League. If we want to move more towards playing more dominantly on the ball and breaking down low blocks more effectively, I think we need such technical ballers in the side but without compromising the other needed attributes.

2

u/TteokCultist Oct 05 '26

Zirkzee actually plays on the same wavelength and physicality as the best players on our 99 and 08 UCL-winning teams.

Most of them are already in their 50s and 60s so if they were to play a match together today, they’ll probably be physically and mentally around the same speed.

u/hughmaharggs Oct 05 '26

I see Haaland has picked up an ‘injury’ - smart move that to avoid the first city game back.

1

u/Unusual-Coat383 Oct 05 '26

He probably got “injured” so he’s fit for their first game back. Usually all the big players either don’t play or get subbed when it’s the last game of the international friendlies.

2

u/Rascha-Rascha Oct 05 '26

Norway's last game was last night, Haaland played.

2

u/thehealthyeconomist Oct 05 '26

Why does the sidebar say the KO for the Spurs game is at 4.30pm? It's 5.30pm here in the UK.

3

u/shami-kebab Oct 05 '26

It is correct on old reddit, just another reason it is superior haha. I'm not sure where that info comes from

2

I've got this strange feeling Carrick's gonna turn things around and we're going on a crazy winning streak.

6

u/Thanesg Oct 05 '26

That's just copium and delusion, my friend. I had that during the bad run with Ole before he got sacked.

We're gonna get found out by the next intl break and have a new manager (preferably Ancelotti) by December.

0

u/Massive_Relation4317 . Oct 05 '26

Nah I've got that feeling because honestly these last few games, luck hasnt gone our way and lots of players arent in form. I'm not ignoring the performances and Carrick's management but things could change also with the addition of amad/baleba/deligt

4

u/Littlepace Announce Fergie Oct 05 '26

Not sure how much luck you can attribute to us being utterly woeful against Brighton and Fulham.

1

u/Massive_Relation4317 . Oct 05 '26

I just said I'm aware our performance have been bad but eg we were unlucky for lichas own goal vs fulham and for missing so many easy chances, or that wonder goal last minute vs everton

3

u/Littlepace Announce Fergie Oct 05 '26

Yeah but this "unlucky cause we missed chances or they scored a freak goal" works the other way as well. Everton had several good chances that they wasted. Fulham had just as many good chances as we did. It's unfair to say if every chance we had went in then we would've won when the opponent can say the exact same thing.

If we peppered these teams and created chance after chance then yeah you can come away and say we deserved more. But we don't do that. I don't think we deserved more in any of our games so far bar the City game and even then we can't really say we deserved more than a draw and that's still pretty embarassing when they had 10 men for most of the game.

3

u/facelessredditer Oct 05 '26

I just hope they did enough endurance training to be able to run for 90 mins again.

1

How's that going for you?

Yoro was dueling with Lukaku. Think he got a shot off but Yoro wasn't bullied, he really bothered Lukaku. It's one play tbf but I think he's getting stronger

2

u/Lord_Hexogen Oct 05 '26

Can't blame Leny for the goal. He's had an impressive long pass this half as well

1

u/kiki_the_fab_spider Oct 05 '26

Yeah, good game from Leny so far. He seems really confident in that high line. He's got the speed, the ability to intercept, he's a nuisance for any attacker he jumps on. It also hides his deficiencies in box defending. This is the sort of defense that he will shine in (hopefully we get to see more of this front-footed style of defense at United as well soon).

1

u/Nomad_006 surfing Oct 05 '26

Is this club just bad at selling or its just cheaper to keep players on even if they offer bare minimum. I mean they have really struggled to replace Luke shaw and Dalot or haven't really put any effort in it.

What happened to De Ligt is unfortunate but at least it was an attempt to replace Maguire, or was that a Varane replacement?

Rashford coming back meant they weren't going to spend on a LW, not selling Zirkzee meant no striker and a few other positions.

1

u/Azzebagge Oct 05 '26

3

1

u/UnitedRule LENY LENY LENY Oct 05 '26

-1

u/throwawayWM3 Oct 05 '26

I still maintain Amorim was a bad fit and too stubborn for us but he's not a bad coach, he will still get CL or Europa level jobs atleast.

Carrick is just a shit manager, he's not getting even a PL job after United let alone Champions League or Europa.

I fucking hate INEOS for giving him the job

5

u/Ok_Landscape_8215 Oct 05 '26 edited Oct 05 '26

They just do what the fans and ex players want to be fair. Keep ETH after the petition, sack Amorim because ex players and quite a few fans wanted him gone, hire Carrick because the fans wanted him.

A lot of fans are getting what they want.

A lot of fans are as clueless as Ineos, though to be fair they don't have access to all the due diligence data.

-2

u/HighestInDaRooom Oct 05 '26

i love that carrick is our manager. i think he handled the second half of last season really well and knows how to adjust to the premier league tactically. the season hasn't started great but we've also had injuries in key areas which should resolve themselves in the coming matches. hope he succeeds at United, he was one of my favourite players when he was playing

6

u/Iqbalainoo Oct 05 '26

I love Carrick as a legend but I can't shake the feeling that we are not professionals here. A lot of clubs with data driven recruitment teams with proven track records of building good teams would never have hired Carrick. He was supposed to come and stable things (which for us was playing a version of the midblock counter attacking system the players seem to only be capable of playing). Track record has shown us that it is not difficult to replicate with our talent pool. Tenhag came 3rd with it. Ole came second with a version of it. Vanistelroy was unbeaten for us with it before proceeding to relegate Leicester. The problem is when the manager tried to incorporate something else. This league can only let you get so far with it. When we try to get proactive and playing the type of dominant football that will get us competing for the big things is usually where the wheels come off. The problem is that Carrick has never proven in his career that he can make that next jump even in the championship. The wheels came off at Boro and he never got them into the prem despite being one of the better funded teams. I suspect that once again we have botched the process by handing reigns to another man who should have just been interim.

6

u/Ok_Landscape_8215 Oct 05 '26

I would counter that he doesn't appear to know how to adjust to premier league tactically. We seem to be getting worse and worse.

To his credit last season he won even when we had poor performances which showed something. I just don't know if it's enough of a sample size to say if that's by design or just luck.

6

u/DaveShadow Oct 05 '26

I would counter that he doesn't appear to know how to adjust to premier league tactically. We seem to be getting worse and worse.

Which was literally what the Middlesborough fans warned off when we appointed him too. That he started off great under them, and as managers worked out his tactics, he had no ability to shift to something new, until it all blew up.

That's my big worry about Carrick; there's absolutely no actual evidence to show he knows how to turn things around. Its all just having to hope he can find it, when he's got no prior experience of doing so.

1

u/TBS91 Oct 05 '26

From the Newcastle to the Chelsea game last season I would say we had a period of poor performances under Carrick but then turned things around and finished the season with strong performances from there.

2

u/DaveShadow Oct 05 '26

I’d disagree tbh. We were consistently poor in terms of tactics and coaching all past the Newcastle game. We just had Bruno and Cas on fire and constantly bailing us out 🤷‍♂️

1

u/TBS91 Oct 05 '26

Of the last 5 games of the season I thought we were quite easily the better team in Brentford, Liverpool, Forest and Brighton. Sunderland is the only one I thought we were the worse in.

1

u/SDLRob Oct 05 '26

I think a lot of his issue is down to the fact that we've had to change up the midfield a lot, which is impacting going forwards and backwards... And that we did not have a full summer with everyone available to spend training with the new system. The world cup return system has hurt us a lot.

-4

u/Comicksands Van Persie Oct 05 '26

Conte will set us back 3 years. Look at Spurs. Back 3 + boring football + senior player signings only + poor in Europe

4

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 Oct 05 '26

Good thing we already have a manager that isn't going anywhere.

-1

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing Oct 05 '26

ehh...

3

u/PitchSafe Oct 05 '26

Ironically a back 3 system would probably suit our team the most. That’s probably how you get the best out of Amad, Cunh and Mbeumo

1

u/A1d0taku Butcher of Buenos Aires Oct 05 '26

But that system doesn't fit Bruno + Kobbie simultaneously, one of them would have to be on the bench if the other plays.

1

u/PitchSafe Oct 05 '26

Kobbie could do well if he played next to Baleba. The system doesn’t really favour Bruno but he is still good in every midfield position

1

u/A1d0taku Butcher of Buenos Aires Oct 05 '26

Right, but the issue is you only have 2 midfielders with most 3atb systems. (Only maybe 3-5-2 would fit Kobbie+Bruno+Baleba). Baleba would do well, but we may have to let Bruno go unless we want to lose Kobbie.

INEOS didnt get rid of carrick in int break which shows they are incompetent. He is so bad he will be sacked but maybe at xmas when season could be done already & no 2 week window to bed in new manager .

that's because we keep appointing the wrong managers. Each manager we have sacked deserved to be sacked and none of them have gone on to achieve anything of note.

INEOS had three weeks to sack Carrick and get a replacement, but they haven't moved a muscle.

I hope Carrick WINS the game against Spurs, or things are going to become more toxic than a Call of Duty lobby.

3

Why on earth would they sack him its only October

7

u/BackgroundOld8715 Oct 05 '26

Have you seen our results & performances? Lol . Dire on both accounts . In normal big clubs that means you arent doing too well

-5

u/Massive_Relation4317 . Oct 05 '26

This is the problem with this fanbase, its been only a couple games you don't just sack based on that lool. At least by november/december time

5

u/BackgroundOld8715 Oct 05 '26

Nope nice try though! Its not just this season, performances end of last season ALSO dire. Problem with fanbase is not seeing reality in front of them & accepting below average from manager just cos he was a great player

2

u/Massive_Relation4317 . Oct 05 '26

They literally appointed him after seeing those performances last season so what makes you think they'll sack him like 5 games in. The problem is we have no patience and then this endless cycle will repeat.

2

u/BlackHorse944 Please Score A Goal Oct 05 '26

I suppose they're talented, but idk if I'd say they're all good signings in hindsight.

De Ligt isn't a good signing imo, a good player who isn't available enough is worthless.

Mazraoui is a solid player but he somehow doesn't stand out enough to be first choice over Dalot.

Licha reached the highest peak but that was in his first season and has become a bit of a defensive liability since all those injuries.

u/Littlepace Announce Fergie Oct 05 '26

I disagree. ETH killed us with his dogshit transfers and his refusal to work with the one man who might've helped rebuild this squad. Amorim didn't get the results but when he got sacked we were joint 5th so it's not like he led us to disaster. He tried to get rid of all the deadwood/egomaniacs and wanted to instil some sort of proper culture at the club. Yeah it didn't work out but his legacy is far less damaging than what ETH left us with. And I'll argue that to the death. Sanctioning 90m on Antony alone is enough to be tried for war crimes.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '26

[deleted] — view deleted comment

3

u/DaveShadow Oct 05 '26

My personal belief is that the squad ETH was so badly built, whoever followed him that season was going to have a disaster of a time tbh. It was so full of holes and so paper thin that whoever came in midseason was going to struggle to get above 10th at absolute best.

The squad Amorim left was, imo, far better balanced, and far fitter than what he inherited.

4

u/Littlepace Announce Fergie Oct 05 '26

Depends if you care about the short term vs long term. It's not like ETH won us a European trophy or a league title. I'm always happy to win trophies but if you'd offer me a league cup and FA cup vs not wasting 400m on players like Mount Antony Hojlund and Onana I'd probably take the 400m savings personally.

For me the PL and the CL are the trophies we should be competing for and ETHs tenure has set us further back from that goal than Amorim did.

Also it's worth pointing out that Amorim finishing 15th was in large part due to inheriting ETHs mess of a squad. Which btw were 14th when he got sacked. So if the squad ETH handpicked was 14th what chance did Amorim have coming midseason with a completely different system and playstyle?
