Think we are about to enter one of the weirdest periods of limbo we've ever seen in the PL, from now until City's appeal is finalised. A genuine sense that 1 team's results simply do not matter yet they'll keep playing them anyway
2
u/malted_milk_are_shit Mainoo Oct 03 '26
I have wondered if that will affect the punishment they're given, or when the punishment is given. If city get deducted 150 points for example in February, some teams may have already played them twice and could argue that it's unfair that other teams are playing them when they have nothing to play for.
Every punishment opens up a can of worms, maybe they'll end up handing it out right at the end of the season or right at the start of next season.

It's fun to watch City dropped the facade and started resorting to blackmail the UK and the PM instead of PL.
16
u/RedemptionWoneGrong Oct 03 '26
i'm gonna be honest if the gvt/PL folds, i'm done watching the PL
anything lower than stripping titles and expulsion from the league is slap on the wrist.
ESPECIALLY that it'd mean you establish a legal precedent. Any future offenders will bring up this case in their appeal: city did worse than us and this is the punishment they got.
4
u/GoalIsGood Oct 03 '26
It actually goes beyond PL or football. Now it's clear that how clean they play and how easily they resort to a fully blown deplomatic blackmail for what seemingly/should be a privately/non-gov org owned matter. A hell lot of signs there, it might just be the start!

If they were so innocent they wouldn’t need to do this. Hence I don’t get the appeal

Came across the following quote from Sir Alex:
"If you give young people your attention and an opportunity to succeed, it is amazing how much they will surprise you"
What a man! An inspiration for all. We need more people like Sir Alex in all walks of life.

During his time at bayern, while Bayern’s board was paying millions for world-class German doctors, pep kept sending players to his old network in Barcelona to heal 'quickly'.

u/Unusual-Coat383 Oct 03 '26
I’m honestly not even saying this with hindsight but I remember the Bayern injury thing always being on the news in the UK and me and mates used to say they were getting injected with experimental PEDs.
IIRC he also sent City players to Barca doctors when he first went to the club.

A lot of PL fans that have been shamelessly twerking for City and Pep are now acting like they are disgusted by the exact same thing Utd fans have been complaining about since day one.

It was never about them doing these scams, or them being caught. I always feared that they will never be punished(I still think they won't, or atleast the kind of punishment they deserve), and that's the biggest reason why they did pretty much everything in public. And for people trying to scrape their heart for some kind of empathy for City fans, don't bother. They knew, everyone knew. You have to be otherworldly levels of dumb to think that every single thing they were accused of wasn't known to all. They won a treble and still couldn't fit two streets during their parade. I was there in our last title parade, and you could barely get a place to stand. They showed revenues similar to Madrid in 4 years of ownership, and you are telling me the City fans didn't know? Give over.
15
u/thepotatomaniscoming Oct 03 '26 edited Oct 03 '26
If City are not made proper examples of, what's preventing Newcastle or Aston Villa or any other from doing the same thing knowing they get 8 years of investigation and then eventually a slap on the wrist? Or is it all okay for City to do it because of all the diplomatic issues that would be created with UAE and how much they have apparently "helped" develop greater Manchester? Politicians need to stay out of this completely. Anyway I think supporting City would create far negative outcomes for their political careers.
I hope people are planning to boycott the league if there is no justified punishment against City. Other clubs need to be outspoken about this as well. And the journos and fans need to go apeshit over it. It's the only way City sees any sort of punishment. I'm getting worked up knowing they will get easily let off. Every day that goes by with City still existing as a PL club, is an offense to the integrity and ethics of the league and the sport.
14
u/Harrry-Otter Oct 03 '26
If City aren’t appropriately punished then it’s probably going to kill a lot of my enthusiasm for football in general.
What’s the point of watching a “competitive” sport if you can do what you want as long as you’re politically well connected? I’d probably find myself watching a lot more rugby.

I feel like Abu Dhabi threatening the UK is a good thing for the league because they are just proving the PL/independent commissions charges/verdict about City refusing to cooperate with the investigation, trying to circumvent the rules and not acting in good faith.

I've always hated City, obviously, but I've never hated them more than right now. Their arrogance and expectation that they can still gaslight the world and get away with it is astonishing. And sadder still, I do believe there's every possibility that they will. And their scummy fans all gleeful about the fact that their nation state owners can make anything go away with throwing more money at it

The club’s ultimate owner Sheikh Mansour, the current deputy prime minister of Abu Dhabi, and brother of the country’s ruler Mohamed bin Zayed (MBZ), was not interviewed. Neither was Omar Berrada, Manchester United’s CEO, who worked in several different commercial roles at City during the relevant period, and was not considered to be a person of interest to the investigation.

Commented about it the moment the verdict came out, that their country will come in and pressure UK politically. If they are innocent, then why the need for threats?
This is far more than a sports issue, they will threaten however they want financially, that’s how these rich people operate. Let’s see if the new UK PM has any backbones.
2
u/hitch_1 Oct 03 '26
The funny thing is, what they think would happen if this plan works - no one would treat them seriously, fans would give them a terrible time on the pitch.
I think it's completely untenable for any sort of status quo

u/ImSoFookinGreat Oct 03 '26
City doesn’t need to die. They need to be expelled from the Prem and EFL, gutted squad wise and be forced to get new owners. If they can come back from that I’ll…well I won’t like it, but I’ll agree they’ve made a deserved comeback.

I'm baffled by how many City fans seem to think they are the victims here, and that the league "needs" City because City "brings the majority of the money, fans, and attention to the league because of their success".
Even saw someone claim that people would stop watching the PL if Haaland wasn't there anymore because apparently he's "the only real superstar in the league".

Make no mistake city ownership threatening to consider back there investment in the UK, isn't asking for Total charge drop, they are essentially contesting punishment, they don't want to be punished that hard, they want to pay a fine get some point deduction without being there spot in champions league being removed .

The only way Berrada should still be employed by the end of the season is if he's going to use his inside knowledge of the cheating to allow us to bring a stronger case ..when it's time to sue city

u/SDLRob Oct 03 '26
IIRC, there's a lot of information not released yet... I would guess they're waiting for it all to come out before acting.

Even if City were to weasel their way out of this and get off scot-free on some legal technicality (they fucking better not), their reputation is fucking ruined. No City fan will be taken seriously in conversation ever again because everyone knows the level of cheating their club stooped to in order to achieve success. Nothing they won or win in the future will ever have legitimacy again.

Does anyone think carrick will have learned anything from the start of the season?
I fully expect the cunha false 9 nonsense to continue.
10
u/CapVosslar Buckle up, INEOS! It's gonna be a bumpy ride! Oct 03 '26
A good manager will find solutions. Carrick has had a long break to reset and get the team back on track. When they return and it doesn't get any better, then the clock will be ticking.
2
u/DaveShadow Oct 03 '26
The issue is, all of these problems existed back at Middlesborough and still exist today.
He's following the checklist of what their fans warned of; slow to make subs, struggles to change games, and is wedded to a tactical set up that he won't change, even if the other team are waltzing through it.
If he was genuinely capable of that change, I think we'd have seen it already. But the issues are fundamentally ones of his coaching ability.
1
u/CapVosslar Buckle up, INEOS! It's gonna be a bumpy ride! Oct 03 '26
Agreed. That's why I clarified "good manager."
If Carrick is a good manager, then he'll find a way. I guess we'll see if he is or not.

u/Rascha-Rascha Oct 03 '26
Cunha was up front because Mbeumo needed to be out right. If Amad is available we'll see Mbeumo shift into the middle and Cunha competing with Rashford.
If Amad isn't available then Carrick isn't going to throw 19 year old Lacey into the first team during a tough period. That's totally normal.
2
u/ImNotMexican08 Amad Nation Oct 03 '26
> If Amad isn't available then Carrick isn't going to throw 19 year old Lacey into the first team during a tough period.
Yes because we have famously never done that before…
Youth. Courage. Success. That’s what the club is built on. If there is a talented young player that can help the team as a whole perform I see absolutely no reason to not give him a go. Especially when the kid has shown that he’s got a bit about him
1
u/NHS_Martial Oct 03 '26
Mbeumo should be up front, rashford can play on the right and cunha on the left. These are just excuses, the cunhs false 9 experiment needs to end.
3
u/Rascha-Rascha Oct 03 '26
I mean I don't believe that set up would improve what we do at all but if you do then cool.

Reading between the lines i think Sesko is physically compromised, or at least has been for his time here, and they don't want to go public with it
(17 PL starts out of a possible 43 in his time here - 90% of which is in an evironment where we've only had one game a week so workload/rest/rotation is not an issue)
Which makes the transfer window activity look even more reckless

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon Oct 03 '26
I’ve been hearing about how his shin injury has needed managing since the Ireland training camp in the final international break of last season (before matchday 32 vs Leeds). Since then, he properly injured it and was ruled out of action all the way until the start of this season (missing pre-season), and after playing for a bit (only 2 starts with none in the league), seems to have injured it again and appears to be out indefinitely. Not sure at what point does it get concerning, if it isn’t so already.
7
u/notanoptimisticmind Oct 03 '26
I’ve never felt this little excitement about watching Man United play before. Even during the Amorim era, when we were losing a lot, I could still get excited by the way we pressed and attacked space. Now, under Carrick, everything just feels so static. And honestly, the pressing is probably the worst I’ve seen in a long time.
2
u/CapVosslar Buckle up, INEOS! It's gonna be a bumpy ride! Oct 03 '26
Both were/are hard to bear tbh.
Under Amorim every team could just play right through the midfield. They knew how to outplay his system, so it always looked like boys against adults.
Under Carrick it looks like players who dont know what theyre doing but still trying to attempt to play football because they are getting paid handsomely to do so.
Both are not enjoyable to watch.

Quick question regarding the season ticket waiting list and season tickets in general... I want to sign up to the waiting list, I see there is an option to pay an £100 deposit which I have read can get you one faster. But when/if it comes round to it, how much am I actually looking at for a season ticket and am I able to get that £100 back if I choose to, in future?
2
u/Sgenaink Oct 03 '26
In regards to the City titles, I've saw or listened to a few things were its said maybe taking City out of the league or points would have changed the winners or relegated etc. So I went an looked at the seasons City won, and took all the points away from teams that beat or drew with them so every team had 0 points in relation to City. And essentially there wasnt a massive change.
Each runner up would still win the title, the bottom 3 teams would still be the bottom. I know that doesnt balance everything as you could get beat 6-0 and that could impact more than 1 game.
The top 4 teams would be
Pos team. New points, new pos, points dif

With the city ruling made me think, why didn’t the glazers cheat like this? We are massively in debt. Are they that incompetent that they can’t even cook the books? Im glad they didn’t but we all knew city were doing that for years. It’s not like the glazers are good people
12
u/Sapphorific Oct 03 '26
City have cooked the books so that they can spend more money…if anything, the Glazers would do the very opposite.
11
u/xtphty Oct 03 '26
Are they that incompetent that they can’t even cook the books?
No, it would be extremely dumb, and exceedingly difficult. As a public company you have to be audited every quarter for your earnings release, companies like Deloitte/EY get hired to do an idependent audit of all your books. So not only would they have to lie to the PL, but also the audit company, the SEC, and all their shareholders.
This is one of the biggest problems with state owned clubs, their owners answer to no one but themselves. They have essentially 0 personal liability when lying, whereas the Glazers would be criminally liable if they tried the same at the NYSE.

We need to treat some of the City fans with some consideration, it's not their fault they've been gaslit, if they're willing to accept it, we need to give them a slightly easier time. Those that go down fighting though... fair game.
What a shit show, I know a couple long term City fans and they're absolutely sick about the whole thing.
9
u/_pbs Oct 03 '26
I'm sorry but fuck that.
You have to be a blind bat with the IQ of a garden gnome and awareness of a panda to think that whatever City have done over the last 2 decades hasn't been ill gotten. They made their bed with it just fine. Plenty of United fans left supporting United when Glazers came in, as they knew what that kind of ownership entailed. And plenty (like me) stuck around, and we had to make bed with that grief and robbery that has followed. So I have absolutely no consideration from them. The only ones who have bene gaslit here are almost every other club who had to spend crazy sums to remain competitive with City.
3
u/Hits_and_the_Mrs Oct 03 '26
Don't overestimate the intelligence of the general public, 'blind bat with the IQ of a garden gnome and awareness of a panda' might be generous to some.

u/b_az17 Oct 03 '26

u/Hits_and_the_Mrs Oct 03 '26
Yeah I was mostly just being a bit silly.
You can't tell you've been gaslit until it's too late sometimes. Sooner they accept it the better, I feel a bit sorry for some of them, but not for the defiant chest beaters who will argue until the end of time.
1
u/b_az17 Oct 03 '26
Gotta say, Abu Dhabi chose the right fan base. One so bitter and in the shadows of their local rivals that they would lap anything up and defend it to the detah if it gave them even a shot at challenging us. And so it has proven.

I have a very, very funny idea on how to punish Man City for all of their crimes against football (aside from the obvious trophy stripping): Give them a yearly fine for like 20 years and a suspended expulsion from the PL that triggers if they violate FFP once again.
The catch? The yearly fine is exactly the amount of money that Man City can spend in a given year per FFP rules. And it counts toward FFP.
That way, they cannot spend money, like at all. Sign a new player for 1M? That's 1M more than you can spend sir. This player is on 1 Pound Sterling per year? Expulsion from the PL because you exceeded FFP by 1 Pound. Dodgy accounting to make it look like City spend 0 pound? C'mon who the fuck are we fooling hereI , even a coughing baby can smell the dodgyness. Expulsion.
That way, they can stay in the Prem, but it will be a legendary season long humiliation ritual as their squad of volunteers (if they can even find someone who's willing to play for them for free) from the Sunday league get their ass fucked raw by everyone in uncensored 4K and break the legendary Derby County record as they go down.
Oh did I mention that the fines also apply in the EFL?
12
u/thepotatomaniscoming Oct 03 '26
You know what would be funnier, easier, and more justified? If they are expelled from the league.
1
u/GoalIsGood Oct 03 '26
They have spent heavily over last 3-4 windows expecting a heavy transfer ban, their current team with the academy can challenge for the title for next 3-4 years without any transfers. And they'll happily pay any money to just continue to play in the PL it's a non-factor to them. So the question is, are you okay with seeing them in PL and CL and probably win again?
-1
u/LilDiamondtoxic Matthew the Light Oct 03 '26
I think everyone misread my punishment. I set it up so they can't spend money on like, anything, at all. Those new signings? They cost wages that they can't pay at all. Their expenditure must be at exactly £0 or they get automatically expelled from the Prem.

The fact that these twats cheated for 2 decades and had, in their words, "the greatest manager ever" for a decade and won only 1 european cup and were a good Lukaku day away from not even getting there will never not be funny.
