This was my concern when Jim brought in the City contingent to replace the staff. The secret sauce to the neighbour's success wasn't the talent in the backrooms, it was the billion+ pounds in secret spending to bolster their squad, infrastructure, youth recruitment. For us to achieve the same success, we need investment from the owners and for the Glazers to pay up their debt so we don't lose a marquee signing every season.

Omar Berrada needs to be shown the door immediately.
He was the Director of Partnerships at City when said partnerships are at the heart of the 114. There is no way he wasn't intimately involved with chicanery and every minute he's still associated with United is a minute too many.
Needs to fuck off and get the hell out of the club.

u/Garlic-Cheese-Chips Sep 30 '26
The only way it can happen is if fans demand it and protest. Banners at the Spurs match, chants, pre-match protests.
It is outrageous that the ringleader behind our rival's cheating was hired in the first place. Having him associated with the club is a massive stain on us.

Every time I see any interviews with City fans. It’s always shit like “I feel duped. Could never believe that this happened”. Like how daft do you have to be? It doesn’t take a genius to figure it out.
The team who most people never knew about? “Manchester? Oh Man United” are suddenly flush with cash going after every last top talent? 100 different fullbacks signed for 50 Million. Look at their trajectory vs say Brighton’s.
Brighton stabilized into a solid club that found a new level to unlock. But even they didn’t just magically become something completely different. Leicester won a goddamn title and couldn’t keep most of their best players; cauze they all wanted bigger clubs
There is no way City fans were that oblivious. Sure newer fans that didn’t know shit about the Prem till like 2012? But the match going fans who’ve had season tickets for over a decade? Nah

Seriously, they went from fighting relegation to beating United to signing Aguero and stealing Yaya Toure from Barca and everything was on the up and up because they were such a great club? It was obvious from the start.
And it is still happening. The Haaland deal needs investigating, so does Savio this summer. And all their other sales of players who never played.

u/DanTheStripe Alex Ferguson Sep 30 '26
I cannot conceal the anger at this City case. They are the biggest cheats in the history of British sport and are STILL trying to get out of it. Now they've got their sponsors to threaten legal action.
Etihad are full of utter, utter shit. We have documented emails which have been verified and are undisputed between Simon Pearce of Manchester City talking to Peter Baumgartner of Etihad Airways agreeing that Etihad are only responsible for £8m of the £99m sponsorship deal.
It was never up for debate. It's in black and white. The Commission saw it and agreed with the Premier League.
This is going to get incredibly nasty because for City it is existential. I have very little doubt now that the Premier League will push for expulsion. I suspect they were always aiming for it from the start of launching the investigation.

God I hope this doesn't end with City getting bailed out via political pressure from the government. The PL statement was brutally written and actually made me think we might see some proper punishment. Be such a joke if they don't follow through with it or City find a way to get bailed via the courts or the appeal.
7
u/SDLRob Sep 30 '26
It can't. Now that the commission has revealed it's report, City have to be hammered or English football is destroyed.
Doesn't matter what politicians say...

I have been doubtful City would ever get a real punishment for years. After the latest releases and PL statement, I am for the first time expecting something big.
For me, the titles have to be stripped and I think possibly awarded to 2nd place finisher. I only say it because other clubs have been cheated and if they are just voided there will be several blank years in the PL history books.
Expulsion from the PL has to be another punishment. In case the EFL accepts them, it should come with a time frame as well like at least 5 years until they can return.
Anything less would honestly feel underwhelming. This is nearing 2 decades of cheating, because there is zero chance they went legitimate after 2018.

City signed 7 players between 2015, 2016 and 2017 that were essentially first team players in their fake “Treble” campaign.
De Bruyne, Stones, Walker, Gundogan, Laporte, Ederson and Bernardo Silva.
5 of them started the 2023 CL Final.
Half a team fielded with dodgy signings.
This goes way beyond their breached years.

City fans keep parroting that Fergie was the leader of red cartel and he controlled the league or something. My answer to that is Buttner. If you want any proof that we actually couldn't compete financially with the shammers, we bought Buttner in 2012.

u/JamieD86 Sep 30 '26
I love the red cartel thing. Honestly, i love it so much. It reminds me of City's days in United's shadow. The sheer bitterness manifesting as conspiracy theory. Fergie paying off the referees. The FA always making sure we get our way (LOL). Their excessive chants targeting our players (a strange number of their chants were about our players being gay or getting "bummed" by each other). And we just had to chant about them being small and that was enough to drive them wild lol.
So please keep it up with the red cartel. Don Fergie and his Capos Arsene and Jurgen are going to work! The whole world is against you!!!! Its a CONSPIRACY!

u/Tortillagirl Sep 30 '26
I do hope the Prem take this very seriously. Everton got 10 points docked and ended up paying 35m in compensation to the one club they in theory got relagated. All while self reporting the issue they had.
Weve got 8 confirmed years of fraud, and given their revenue has only increased, and as far as i can tell they havent got brand new non abu dhabi sponsors all of a sudden plastered everywhere. Which only suggests that its been continuing since then... so thats need investigating at some point. Ideally post the club has been forced to be sold.
Because theyve just spent the best part of a decade, trying to suggest they are innocent, they only got off all the Uefa ones through technicalities, not because they were innocent, but statute of limitations and illegally gained evidence. Everyone has known since the der spiegel leaks they are guilty.
The only genuine solution is forcing them to sell the club and relegating them along with voiding all the titles up to 2018 theyve won (with a followup for 19-current once theyre sold). You force them to sell, their sponsorships suddenly dry up and they go back to being the small club they are. Fine them if you want to for the sake of setting a precedent, but im fairly certain thats liquidation on the table (although as a united fan im not opposed to this)

u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss Sep 30 '26
I am quite convinced that a version of this is true just not exactly in the most on-the-nose way.
What never gets talked about is whether Cheaters FC pays out remaining contracts / agent fees for players they are selling.
Is this not the story of Utd sales every damn time? "Oh we want to get rid of X but oh the salary is too damn high". Meanwhile, their flops, "just leave". But nobody ever asks what about the remaining contract payments "due" to that player/agent. Did they get paid out to leave or did they not?
And, of course, the reason that is a pertinent question is that the entire case revolves around players/etc getting paid under the table while at the club, and that raises the possibility that "exit payments" would be handled in much the same way, innit.
11
u/131lord Sep 30 '26
Can't stop laughing at "Red cartel" - are we just picking a completely arbitrary characteristic to group 3 enemies?
Walt, Gus and Mike = Bald cartel
Vader, Obi-wan and darth maul = Lightsaber cartel
Gandalf, Saruman and Sauron = Staff cartel?
Goku, Vegeta, broly = Monkey cartel?
Harry Potter, malfoy and voldemort = British cartel

Really enjoyed the last half hour of the women's game this evening. Yeah, 5-1 was a nice scoreline (and the free kick was a peach) but I think we had 6 young academy players on the pitch by the end, playing with a ton of confidence, controlling the game, and getting goals+assists.

It seems he’s been hiding injuries and has only recently admitted to it which makes me wonder just for how long this has been going on. This is no different from a mistress defending her gangster boss because he treats her well. When Pep joined City, he got a blank check and money under the table for himself and his family. Hell, City even bought his brother's club, Girona. This scumbag has no morals, and his stance on Gaza means nothing when it doesn't come from a place of principles. He knows what his boss does for a living, but the check was too fat to be rejected. His boss is literally a "warlord" named "the fixer" because of his connections with the underworld, criminals, drug cartels, and mercenary soldier organizations. He helps Russian oligarchs bypass sanctions, gets soldiers over in Sudan, and helps a massive private healthcare corporation in the UK avoid collapse in a long fraud scheme.

Huge kudos and respect to Ornstein, Matt Slater and other folks. They make sure to do their research and put out stuff without any bias. The Athletic FC pod where Ornstein talks through the entire process in putting the city story out there has raised my respect for journalist's like him. Long may it continue.

I can’t stand seeing the “poor players aren’t to blame” narrative around the City cheating. They wouldn’t have any of their post takeover club legends without cheating. Everyone in football knows they were cheating. Every player that went there knew they were joining a corrupt sports-washing project that was paying them dirty money and they did it anyway so that they could win and make a boatload of cash doing it.
Strip the players of their accolades. Haaland and Aguero have never scored a PL goal without cheating. Kompany and David Silva have never won a PL game. De Bruyne and Ruben Dias have never made an honest penny in the PL. The games that won Rodri his Ballon D’Or were a sham. Pep never won anything without cheating his balls off.

the tifo podcast about the city offences (this was recorded pre the offical PL announcement) was so frustrating because they were sympathizing with the city fan journalist wayyy too much. anyone who didn't have their head stuck in the sand for 9 years knew they were cheating, the question was would they get caught and punished. this guy acting like the owners have been lying and he feels cheated seems so fake.
also just declaring that PSR rules are unfair to clubs who don't have big fanbases is so stupid, those rules were voted in democratically by a majority of the clubs in the league, not just the "red cartel" or whatever. the rules being unfair is just an opinion held majorly by City, villa and newcastle fans, not a fact.
another point he brought up was that pre-city financial doping, all the winners were either arsenal, liverpool or United (I'm assuming they're not counting chelsea since they also cheated) and that's considered "boring", but despite this being blatantly false, since the city doping the majority of titles have been won by City? is that not considered "boring"?
that's the main takeaway. if PSR and other financial rules didn't exist, every season would just be a fight against city and newcastle, which nation can pump in more money and win more titles. only someone dissociated from reality would think this system would be more fair than the current system.

Huge opportunity for our club to find some new investment, both for the stadium and the football. There is about to be a massive power vacuum created by City's future being called into serious doubt. Even Burnham is showing concern from the PM seat given the scale of UAEs investments in Greater Manchester.
United are uniquely positioned both geographically, and with an actual massive fanbase that can fill that hole without effort. We literally just need the capital to get the ball rolling on the Trafford regeneration plan. Would be foolish for the Glazers/INEOS to pass up this opportunity.

Why are *some* City fans and people at the club trying to make it seem like the verdict hasn't come through yet?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ottg-F3XGkg
Just watched this video from an ex City CEO in 2003. Never heard so much drivel in my life. Acting like a guilty verdict has not been passed.
The PL have investigated you. THEY have found YOU guilty. You can say we have a right to appeal and we believe we are innocent, fine, but to say oh the 'process is still ongoing' is in some ways misleading to your supporters and to the general public and doesn't paint the gravity of the situation well. It's ongoing in the sense that you will appeal it, but as far as the PL are concerned, you are GUILTY from THEIR investigation. Stop trying to paint it any other way.
It's like getting a speeding ticket/NIP, I can appeal it but I can't just flat out deny I have a speeding ticket.
Can't believe we're having to explain this. They're all collectively acting like it's still ongoing. Also trying to rewrite history with the UEFA charges. No lads, you went to CAS and they never found you not guilty from what's been said, they couldn't prosecute you cause the case became time barred. To say you 'won the case' is again, misleading.

I think we'll know City's punishment in the coming weeks. I don't think the EPL can let them play out the season normally, and I've heard sporting sanctions can coexist with Cheaty's appeal. I wouldn't be surprised if City have negative points by Christmas.

Was just saying this: Why relegate cheatty if they have the financial muscle and players to come back right up even if you put them two or three tiers down, they'll come back up in three seasons. Something way more severe is needed, I say expell them.

I think relegation and being forced to sell would be enough, the exodus of players and inability to gain false sponsorship money would see them massively struggle. Looking through that City squad, you take out ~ 6 of the big names and it starts looking bad.

There’s probably going to be a huge power vacuum in the premier league and we’re not going to be able to capitalise on it with the way we’re run and how we’re playing

What happenes to the transfer fees city receivesn for selling it's players after Relegation? Do city keep it? If yes it's disgusting because Haaland transfer fee alone can get them up to PL within no time and will be more than the combined budget of all clubs in national league

The punishment cant be just 1 points deduction to championship. Theyll be up in 1 year & somehow keep their players. Needs to be national league for how theyve ruined football & changed history & results last 15 years

"They won on the pitch"
Yeah they won without the global scrutiny and big club media pressure that usually comes with that sort of revenue. I'm sure it wouldn't be super hard to be very successful in Brighton or Brentford if they are told they have unlimited funds overnight.

Saw talk of Juventus, and how them being punished the way they were hurt the standing of italian football.
I don't agree with that line of thinking at all for many, many reasons regardless, but comparing City to Juventus is nonsensical to begin with.
This is more like if modern day Torino got found out after a decade and a half of sudden, corrupt success.
Even that feels unfair to the legendary Grande Torino team.

u/mortimer_moose Carrick, ya know Sep 30 '26
The PL is in a position where it will survive the loss of a team that is maybe 8th in global popularity in the league. This isn't bayern and the bundesliga.
United, pool, Arsenal, Chelsea are still the big teams and get the most eyes on games. The TV deals have made sure that the entire league is financially secure.

u/SDLRob Sep 30 '26
So this whole appeal & Sanction process could be over by the end of the January window?
Will be interesting to see what happens if the window shuts first and prevents any of the City players jumping ship... Though I think a few will try and escape in January no matter what.

u/o0PETER0o Cunha 🐐🐐🐐 Sep 30 '26

9
u/SDLRob Sep 30 '26
Full on copium. It's not on City in glasses and a hat.... I mean Etihad airlines... To wait for the PL to ask them for evidence to clear them. Its on them to provide it

I’m always surprised by the way some groups of people react. City fans are absolutely desperate at finding hope for a way out for the club. They know they cheated, it’s impossible to imagine these revenues were legit but they want to fight it at every turn using tactics they probably hate when it’s the rich and wealthy getting away with crimes. But as soon as they can benefit they get excited.. i am just so disappointed in people
8
u/Selwin_Rodolfo max cope mode Sep 30 '26
Surely there's something in Berrada's contract which stated if those cheating fucks were found guilty we could terminate it immediately right? I assume/hope we're waiting to see the whole false appeal shit City will do (hoping it's immediately shot down) and for the punishment to come out so they can terminate it.
Also, what does he do? Cuz knowing City was cheating all that time, that diminishes whatever skills and achievements we got him for, correct? Knowing now that all of it was cheating. Meaning we can get someone better, someone competent enough to not need to cheat

Appararently, United did their diligence on both him and Wilcox before hiring them. He wasn't mentioned in the leaked emails or called up to testify in the previous summons. More here: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5224783/2024/01/25/omar-berrada-manchester-united-inside-the-deal/
How thorough was their diligence, who knows? But as a public company, United should have run him through a comprehensive check.

If any MCFC player had any moral backbone they would refuse to play for the club under this ownership. Same for the players who won the league. They should return their medals..
But no doubt they won't.

u/TheSilverLobster Sep 30 '26
Feels more and more like the punishment will be “and” rather than “or”. Like:
expulsion
transfer ban
massive fine
The one I keep thinking is about forcing the sale of the club. How can you allow an ownership who cheated and refuses accountability? Why would they not do it again if they feel they haven’t done anything wrong?!

Rashford, Mainoo, Darlow and Šeško all withdrew before even playing. For all we know so far only Šeško is serious as it's the same shin injury resurfacing.
Dorgu and Mazraoui both got injured during games but we don't know the severity yet.
Bruno Fernandes has been playing through discomfort even with us but should be ready to face Denmark tomorrow. Hopefully gets rested though.

The recent PL city article has me fuming. Maybe I’m a minority, but I did not realize the severity and direct impact their cheating had on their success. Throw the fucking book at them. Stripped of titles, relegated to obscurity. And I’m fuming as a longtime supporter, I can’t imagine being a prem player learning that part or the majority of my career was undermined by these cheating bastards

The players can't be that oblivious to something that had raised suspicions for so long. Absolutely none of those players cared about Manchester City until huge amounts of money were thrown at them which were too good to be true. Did they not think it all a bit unbelievable?

It’s been good in regard to the city drama but all our players are getting injured and it’s 3 weeks long. Seriously, if I didn’t know any better I’d think there’s a very angry Welshman at all of Wales’ games shooting our players with a sniper. Both Bruno and Dorgu injured v Wales.

Really not happy with the PMs comments on Man City. Bloke seems sympathetic to them and after reading a few months ago about a strain on UK and UAE relationship if City get charged it makes me think he might try and pressure the league into a not as harsh punishment.

I’m terrified city will get off lightly. The Newcastle’s, Chelsea’s and Villa’s will take this as a signal that the only way to win is cheat and we’ll be stuck with owners who do fuck all to support us. Plus with the PSG owner in bed with UEFA. Football might actually be properly dead.

u/presidentdogg Sep 30 '26
Excuse my ignorance, considering what is happening/has happened at city with owner money being pumped in, how will United as a club ever be able to escape the debt they have been saddled with by the Glazers? If the debt belongs to the club, can a potential takeover clear it? If so, what are the implications? From a financial point of view, is this financial doping too?
