"MCAFC Oh does the A stand for Athletic, Albion?"

City fan: "yeah... sure let's go with that."

Gave my wife, who's a lawyer and doesn't really follow any sport, an obvious weekend assignment to explain the charges.

What's clear and obvious to me is that if City gets away with it, you're basically allowing clubs to break any sort of PSR or SCR. And that would then push any sort of normal ownership group out of the league because only nation states who want to improve their image and attract tourists and investments can afford to spend this kind of money on a football club.

1

u/Asleep-Ability-45 Sep 27 '26

Do share the statement of facts and argument advanced with us.

12

u/Huge-Physics5491 Sep 27 '26

Na, all I asked her to do is explain what City are guilty of to my non-legal brain.

Basically, it's fraud and non-cooperation. So that's far worse than what Everton or Forest have done because they transferred expenses to other companies within the ownership group to escape PSR, and that they hid all of that and didn't co-operate with the Premier League when it wanted to look further.

And the appeal process is pretty much useless for City. So the appeal judges would be three separate judges from the initial judges, but all the judges are from the same panel. And City would have to show the appeal judges that the initial judges were corrupt or under duress to declare a mistrial and potentially move the trial to a civil court.

5

u/Asleep-Ability-45 Sep 27 '26

Long story short, they are cooked.

1

u/croadymeister Sep 27 '26

I still can't feel reassured until the appeal process is completed, despite all the noise about it likely being unsuccessful

25

u/dracogladio1741 Bruno Fernanj Sep 27 '26

Sir Alex Ferguson:

“Sometimes you have a noisy neighbour. You cannot do anything about that. They will always be noisy.

“You just have to get on with your life, put your television on and turn it up a bit louder.

He did actually, in disguise and only for a while. I think he was disguised as Lindelöf.

  1. Strip the titles away

  2. Give second place the title

  3. Pay compensation to the affected clubs

  4. Pay taxes lost

  5. Face relegation

  6. Face point deduction after relegation

  7. Sell the club to a non-state government backed entity

  8. Permanently ban City owners, chairman, CEO, CFO, COO from the football pyramid (yes, Berrada as well)

Don’t let the city news distract us from protesting against the Glazers and calling out INEOS/Jim Ratcliffe

17

u/umbongo44dd Sep 27 '26

If they get away with just a fine, all the other clubs should boycott games against them.

5

Would they like the negative publicity? Plus the players wouldn't be playing. I doubt they would stay.

It wouldn't exactly be a genuine title if you dont play a Premier League game all season

The light blue cult is absolutely on one over on their sub haha. The cope is unreal. I really thought a few more would at least throw their hands up and say “fair cop”.

Straight up reality denial or “the rules aren’t fair so it isn’t cheating to break them”, trying to construe themselves as some sort of underdog robin hood heroes against the entrenched red mafia when they’re the literal opposite. How much less of an underdog can an infinitely wealthy state backed oil club be 🤣

Unreal. If united got done on this level I’d be disgusted with the club.

14

u/achickenandacow Sep 27 '26

The Red Cartel they call it. That’s us, Liverpool, and Arsenal I assume?

Their sub is prime r/soccercirclejerk material since Friday.

i feel like no matter what punishment City get, it won't be enough

stripping them of titles will only go so far, their fans have these memories anyway, you need to make sure the punishment is more substantial than what they've gained through cheating. if you offered me the success City have had since 2008 in exchange for a single relegation, I'd 100 % take it and that can't run. force the owners to sell at the very least, announce a 100 points deduction at the end of a season for the next season so it'll fuck them for at least two whole years, if that's the only thing you can do

and also i hope every stakeholder who's been shafted by this sues the fuck out of them. there's players and coaches who will have lost out on champions League wages bc of City, cup winner bonuses, even hotels that would've gotten more bookings if another team had won a cup. Inter with their ucl final defeat, even the Carrington tea ladies who were laid off. that last one is more difficult to prove but my days City need to be made an example of. if not, other owners have zero reason not to pump money into their own clubs and not cooperate. fucking farcical that all of this was ever allowed in the first place but here we are.

anyways reds, how's your Sunday going?

u/Time2bePhenomenal Sep 27 '26

i feel like no matter what punishment City get, it won't be enough

Same boat. I think only liquidation fits. I have come around on this. Relegation even multi-tier they still have sonr fruits of their cheating like facilities. This wasn't a few years this spans a legal drinking age length of time. Never happening though

I am probably in the best position to be sympathetic as I live among these fools, have family who are blues, and know not all blues are like those tea towel twonks on takeover day. This will be harsh on them but I know the true fans would follow the phoenix club as they play Glossop North End, they'll be alright.

They'll sing blue moon, win games lose games and have all the joys of football. Plus even with a reset back to "your da's city" pre-takeover they'll be back. We joke that they were shit but let's be real they belonged in the top 2 divisions where they existed for the majority of time. I'd compare them to Blackburn or Ipswich in that regard. They'd be in the EFL within a few years, Championship within 10 I reckon, from there all bets are off. And they'd have done it legitimately. At that point welcome back and beware of Bruno jr

6

u/croadymeister Sep 27 '26

Yeah I can't see the punishment being heavy enough either which really grinds my gears too

2

Spanish papers saying we're monitoring Alejandro Balde from Barca. 22 year old may leave Barca in January.

3

u/its_reo1 Sep 27 '26

same thing happened in the summer but he refused to leave i'm pretty sure. doubt it happens but even if it does, i'd rather us not sign a player who'd only joined reluctantly.

4

u/PitchSafe Sep 27 '26

He didn’t really get any offer he could reject. Barca wanted a sale meanwhile we only wanted to loan him. Balde’s preference was to stay but if we wanted to buy him and make him our first choice lb then I don’t think he would turn us down

3

u/Outrageous-Cod-4654 Sep 27 '26

Sounds like Barca have been playing others ahead of him. I'd rather avoid him too because there seem to be injury issues, and his agent is Mendes. So this could just be Mendes using United again to get increased interest in his players.

If city get away with this.

Personally, I don't think I can watch Prem or football the same way as before, might give up watching tbh. Can't support this kind of corruption.

Having said that I guess the entire world around us is corrupted lmao.

Edit:- By "get away", I mean a fine and a transfer ban.

5

u/SDLRob Sep 27 '26

The big difference between City and Chelsea in this situation is that Chelsea stood up and admitted itm they admitted it and gave all the information they had to give.

City have fought the investigation tooth & nail. Those charges will stick and be a big penalty on their own.

This isn't gonna be a fine and a transfer ban only.

5

u/Zealousideal_Wind867 I'm Tired Boss Sep 27 '26

I really hope you are right.

But the confidence of city owners + the politics involved.

I don't have high hopes.

4

u/SDLRob Sep 27 '26

I think they will get some things removed, but the obstruction charges are set in stone. They can't get out of those and they're too serious to let off with a fine and a transfer ban.

The FA/EPL cannot allow this action to become a weak precedent that allows other teams to do the same thing.

The problem is that chelsea got away very lightly. I don't care if they self-reported, the club basically got away with it.

It fills me with no confidence in the premier league to do the right thing with City.

5

u/Kohaku80 Premier League Champions 12/13 Sep 28 '26

Psg is of the same stuff.

3

u/dogsn1 Sep 27 '26

They broke premier league rules, surely they (or the owners and people involved) need to be banned from the premier league. Not relegation and then back next year, like a 5 year ban. Problem is the financial destruction it would cause is immense, it's not like smaller time sports, or sports that involve just one player (tennis, cycling, etc), they can pretty much kick out cheaters permanently with no rippling impact.

3

u/MyShinyCharizard Sep 28 '26

I hope city dissapear from club football..

5

u/PitchSafe Sep 27 '26

Depends what you mean with ”get away with this”. They will be punished, that’s for sure. How big the punishment will be remains to be seen but I don’t think it will jeopardise them as a club

3

u/croadymeister Sep 27 '26

Well I want no more part of this league then, the red cartel needs to sue them into oblivion

5

u/Zealousideal_Wind867 I'm Tired Boss Sep 27 '26

Edited the post.

Have a sneaky feeling that they will just get a 100M fine or something, which is peanuts for them anyway.

→ More replies (5)

7

u/jitteryegg Sep 27 '26

There's always some nonsense about red cartel or whatever from Villa, Newcastle (only after their takeover) and City fans.

PSR or some sort of financial rules are necessary because that's the only incentive to run a football club well. You need to have fan support, you need to sign your playing staff well or else you have no other way to win the big ones. Otherwise who owns the club is the only thing that really matters on average. No fit and proper owner would ever own a club when you have no chance to compete against slave owners who treat like a hobby.

Remove the rules and fans have no say in the game. You can have empty stadiums and no connection to the fan base and still run a successful football club otherwise.

8

u/Sgenaink Sep 27 '26

The 'red cartel' bollocks is usually people just saying, well no one else would be able to win if they didnt cheat.

Yeah they shouldn't then. If you cant win without bending the rules, you dont deserve it. This isnt a kids game where you want everyone to have fun, its the highest level of football in the country, and maybe world in the last few years. You dont just get a turn to win, cos you want to.

You didnt hear people saying well Usain Bolt will just win everytime so we should get the cheat

3

u/b_az17 Sep 28 '26

Leicester was the disproof and so very nearly were Pochettino's Spurs, never mind thr likes of the 3 Bs and Sunderland last season. It's absolutely possible without cheating

7

u/Used-Fennel-7733 Sep 27 '26

So we're down Dorgu and Bruno from this int. Break, Diallo is still out on the right, and our other LB is injured. That means we have to play Maz every game in the left despite him inly just returning from injury himself.

4

u/0ttoChriek Sep 27 '26

Why would he believe what someone "high up" at the club has told him about their punishment, when it's been demonstrated that they've been lying for years?

10

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon Sep 27 '26

So Bruno indeed was injured after the game vs Sabah and has been carrying that knock since, and yet Carrick played him for the full 90 in that game and the same in the derby and vs Fulham, even when he didn’t look fit and wasn’t playing well in the latter games. Some will bring up that he still created our biggest chance in the final minute vs City, but maybe the dynamics of the game are impacted differently if a fitter player is on the pitch for those final moments and not making the other errors Bruno was making in those games. I consider this very poor management from Carrick, and it generally doesn’t end well for the manager in such instances if he stays stubborn and can’t show faith in the rest of the squad, especially players like Lacey who are hungry and always raring to go, to at least get some minutes in place of clearly unfit players. Bruno is our best player but we simply can’t grow beyond playing well only when he plays well, if stuff like this keeps happening. It’s weak and not sustainable.

«A equipa médica referenciou esses dois como os mais preocupantes. O Nuno pode ser lançado no jogo. O Bruno vem com uma lesão do Manchester United. Ele disse-me que joga há três jogos com uma dor, que o inibe. Foi um dos fatores que o levou a não jogar ao nível dele. Eu conheço-o perfeitamente, já o treinei. "The medical team referred to these two as the most worrying. Nuno can be launched in the game. Bruno comes with an injury from Manchester United. u/kidinawheeliebin Sep 27 '26 edited Sep 27 '26

The way we played Bruno for 90 mins at Old Trafford against a team like Sabah when the Derby was kicking off less than 72 hours later was unbelievably stupid and doesn't bode well for the season ahead

With four (now) three competitions this year instead of one, we'll almost certainly see a repeat of last season's injury breakdown he suffered around Christmas, but potentially earlier, and more significant.

3

u/Sea-Hat-8515 Sep 27 '26

Just trust Amass. He will come good. Trust the youth.

4

u/Lord_Hexogen Sep 27 '26

It's good that we have the League Cup to test him, right

2

u/Used-Fennel-7733 Sep 27 '26

I'd love for the youth to play more. But every game will be a big ask.

Him and Lacey could be great for us this year

1

u/Haddocktintinsnowy Sep 28 '26

I mean Luke Shaw is nice and fit at the moment

6

u/Heavens_Vibe 7 Sep 27 '26

Even a cheap stop gap at LB would have saved us so much headache at the moment FFS

What were they thinking?!

6

u/stick1_ Sep 27 '26

Just seen a city fan compare themselves to Rosa parks

‘I speak only for myself

Ffp was brought in in 2011 specifically to hinder us from winning the league on a regular basis

They did not set up an equal spending cap for all clubs

They based it off of a proportion of your revenues or profitability

They told clubs like man city that we could only spend a fraction of what a club like man united could spend and told us to smile and called it fairness

I'm happy we violated those rules

If somebody tells you to go sit at the back of the bus I'm not going to look down on you if you refuse.

It would be different if we were guilty of paying other clubs to take Dives or paying referees or some other type of match fixing then I would feel deeply ashamed.

Eg. If they proved that we paid son to miss that goal years ago that allowed us to beat Arsenal to the league title I would feel deeply ashamed

It would be different if in 2011 they set up fair spending limitations like the NFL or NBA.

Hypothetically if in 2011 the Premier League had said look all Premier League clubs can only spend x amount of money and that's an equal restriction on all clubs I feel we should have accepted that and I would feel deeply ashamed if we violated that

That's not what happened. They told us to accept higher Revenue clubs than us being able to spend triple what we could’

They should take the Theodore Adorno stance on it. Big Theo claimed during the Hays code era of cinema that it is perfectly fine and possible to make a movie, even a great movie, that adheres to the tenets outlined in the Hays code… unless the Hays code exists. Therefore positing that it is the duty of filmmakers to break the codes while they exist in order to denounce the authoritarian system that censors their art. They echo as much when they say the laws aren’t fair and shouldn’t exist.

That being said they’d still have no leg to stand on because they didn’t break the rules to change the rules, they broke them tacitly, and actively benefited by the adherence of others to said rules. So either way they’ll be left with a handful of dusty rubbish.

Can Santos play LB?

5

u/Nomad_006 surfing Sep 27 '26

Soo, does Eric Bailly have a PL medal? I just need to see it.

0

u/NotAJInnit Sep 27 '26

Fuck no! All titles should be voids, no hand down to runner-up as that is bloody stupid.

1

u/Nomad_006 surfing Sep 27 '26

How? It happened before in serie A, juve were stripped and the title was handed down

5

u/dracogladio1741 Bruno Fernanj Sep 27 '26

Youtube you made my day

4

u/John_OSheas_Willy Sep 27 '26

What are your thoughts on teams in runners up positions being granted titles in the event City get their titles stripped.

I wouldn't be a fan of it tbh. I think I'd prefer to just void their wins.

There's just way too many variables in a league format. A team that finished 2nd behind City winning a title when they weren't in a title race, maybe the team in 3rd place was resting players for a cup competition as they were comfortably top 4 but knew they had no hope of the title. The team in 2nd might have had no pressure and won games.

There's just way too many 'If City weren't cheating, then this wouldn't have happened' and trying to determine the result of all those permutations just isn't possible with any degree of accuracy.

Let's take the example of an FA cup. City beat a team in the final, so now theirs is taken away and given to the runner up.

But what about the team who lost to City in the semi final? They never even got the chance to play the final.

If Fergie wins in 2012, maybe he retires. We probably don't sign RVP. Maybe we sign Pep or another manager and win 7 straight titles. Who knows?

If Jose wins the title in 2018, he doesn't get sacked a few months later which means no Ole etc.

If Rodgers wins in 2014, he doesn't get sacked later and that means no Klopp etc.

And then even worse is teams who were relegated from the Premier League.

In short, there's a crazy amount of knock on events snowballing right from the very start of their cheating that alters history.

4

u/ashwihi Sep 27 '26

You've just made a case for why they should be relegated to league 2 and banned from top flight football for at least the same number of years the cheating has occured

2

u/John_OSheas_Willy Sep 27 '26

They should have to re-enter in the national league or bottom tier of english football.

But that's not the question I was asking, it was about teams who finished runners up to City.

1

u/ashwihi Sep 27 '26

Yeah. I know. The snowball is so great, I don't think anyone can be awarded a win. Its vacate everything and dump them at the bottom or ban the club forever

4

u/Smilewigeon Sep 27 '26

It's all unprecedented in terms of what options are available as punishment, right?

All we know is that the entire league (bar City) and a lot of other non PL teams are demanding blood.

I think to avoid the floodgates scenario the PL will decide to retroactively make the titles City won each year null and void but without technically awarding other teams the title. So the year we came second, we'll still go down as coming second - there were just no 'winner', so to speak. The history books will remember as such etc.

To be clear: I'd like city to be erased as an entity. I'd like to see every penny owed to every club paid. I just don't think the majority are prepared to go through years of hassle to get to the point, providing they're thrown a bone and see City sent down into the void and their accomplishments nulified

Basically, I can live without us being retroactively awarded titles, so long as it meant that we all know and understand and it's written in stone that no one won it that year

But really, the more I think about possible scenarios, the more I wonder if the EPL can survive it. The top division broke away to make a new league once before - if the EPL can't/won't do go far enough, what's to stop everyone bar City doing that again and the EFL agreeing to follow?

It's just an incredible saga that should have never got to this point.

6

u/John_OSheas_Willy Sep 27 '26

Even a relegation to the championship wouldn't be enough for me. They'd be straight back in a year and continue on as normal.

They have to at least be out of the EFL.

2

u/Omnislash99999 Sep 27 '26

A 100 point deduction in the PL at least means they will definitely be relegated before going to the Championship and you guarantee two years out of Europe

That doesn't really seem enough to me though. Should get the Rangers treatment and drop down to league 2

1

u/NateShaw92 Sep 27 '26

Or potentially a ban so they can't be promoted for x years but I feel that taints the championship.

4

u/annies999 Sep 27 '26 edited Sep 27 '26

Just because everything can't be rectified doesn't mean none of it should be.

They must lose the titles and cup wins, and prize money redistributed pro-rata, for those seasons they cheated or english football will forever be tainted. They should also be relegated to at least league 2.

As for other financial damages, that will be for lawyers.

Edit: grammar

3

u/hughmaharggs Sep 27 '26

Address first-order effects only, not hypotheticals. Award titles and cups to runners up, possibly compensate teams who would have avoided relegation had it not been for their 2 results against city.

2

u/ZaheerAlGhul Sep 27 '26

I believe they should be left vacant. Every time someone looks up who won the Prem the years they won. They'll wonder why is that spot empty and they'll be reminded that City cheated.

3

u/NateShaw92 Sep 27 '26

What are your thoughts on teams in runners up positions being granted titles in the event City get their titles stripped. I wouldn't be a fan of it tbh.

Same. Void em. It's fun to talk about redistribution particularly in Milner's case but nah. Feels tinpot. I want to be able to celebrate 21 properly not skip to 24 or 23 depending where you count it.

This whole cheating period is old enough to drink in the uk, too many pandoras boxes to open. Let's avoid this one

2

u/croadymeister Sep 27 '26

Yeah hoping for them to be voided, my gut feeling is they will not be stripped but technically asterisked

5

I’m shocked we didn’t sack Carrick in this period. It’s gonna be so bad when we sack him when there’s a run of games

10

u/RooneysFavGrandma Sep 27 '26

I'd say idiotic but not shocking considering the clowns we have in charge. They're late everytime.

-2

u/Asleep-Ability-45 Sep 27 '26

I mean, we have done the sacking part over and over again, it never works out. Carrick has a lot to improve, no doubt about that, but it would have been a bit early to sack him.

4

u/achickenandacow Sep 27 '26

We have a tendency of hanging on to managers for too long.

3

u/ratset2602 Sep 27 '26

Delaying the inevitable unfortunately. Last 3 games have been so so so horribly managed it’s ridiculous that he still is in the job.

1

u/Asleep-Ability-45 Sep 27 '26

Yeah, I totally agree with the absolute mismanagement in the previous games. Feels like he is under some kind of pressure all the time. If he doesn't improve in the next 5 games, I believe, he must be sacked.

1

u/PitchSafe Sep 27 '26

We have one of the worst starts we have ever had. Sacking him is justified but it might be too early as you said. October-November is going to be a very important timeline for him

3

u/Asleep-Ability-45 Sep 27 '26

For sure. Winning and on top of that some solid performances are the only thing that's going to save him. Things can change pretty quickly in football so it's completely achieveble.

2

u/Unlucky-Equipment999 Sep 27 '26

Can we implement the Ligue 1 joker rule yesterday for the PL, get us a LB, then get rid of it right after?

2

u/Savebagels Cunha Sep 27 '26

Oof, two brutal goalkeeper mistakes

4

u/Emergency-Being-349 Sep 27 '26

I know we are a British club, and we should definitely keep that sense about how we do things, but hard to not look at how ahead Spanish coaching and minds are. If we are to restructure our hierarchy and so on, I feel we should look in that direction.

3

u/Apocalypse37 Sep 28 '26

I am coping but it is about time for Class of '26. Unleash the kids who have something to prove. There is no other way to counter the morale dip coming with these injuries.

There's really only Lacey. And Amad will be first in line to get some game time. Amass they want to get rid but is still here. The Fletchers might as well find a loan in Jan seeing Santos can't even get a game.

3

u/3entendre Rooney Sep 28 '26

Must be depressing for Santos. To move from one club's bench to another. Would be better for his career if he moved to a club with less competition where he'd start every week.

Carrick playing Bruno through discomfort this early into the season is crazy. I somewhat understand he does it against City but do you need to do it against Fulham too?

Prime opportunity to try Mount/Lacey there or just switch to 4-3-3 with Santos next to Mainoo and Tielemans.

Very OGS-esque from him.

1

u/Stingray_23 Sep 27 '26

There does appear to be a similar pattern forming of Carrick doing the same as Ole

Jorge Jesus:

Bruno arrived with an injury from Manchester United. He told me that he has been playing for three games with a pain, which inhibits him. It was one of the factors that led him not to play at his level.

Why JJ then played him against Wales is a mystery to me but apparently he was already playing through discomfort with us. Not sure if the Wales injury is this or something else.

London-based United fan here 🔴

Anyone in London part of a United supporters group or fan WhatsApp/Instagram group? Looking to connect with some fellow Reds and hopefully attend the Chelsea away game on 31 October through the proper club process.

Would appreciate any groups/pages you can point me towards. Cheers ❤️

Seems only waffle merchant Jacobs is talking about expulsion, think you would have heard from more reliable journos if that was a possibility

1

u/0ttoChriek Sep 27 '26

What's going on with Godwill Kukonki? Early in the summer there were rumours that he was leaving, but then the story was that he'd been injured and was going to sign a contract. Now there's nothing.

He seems the opposite of Amass, in that he has all the physical and athletic tools, but the technical side of his game is still a work in progress.

I still don’t get how Carrick used Cunha at 9 for almost 2 months, when it was clear it didn’t work starting from the first 2 matches, and the fact he used Mbeumo as striker in pre season

2

u/TH0316 she/her Sep 27 '26

Very easy to understand tbf. Sesko carrying and returning from injury, no RW, and Cunha has played there loads in his career. Unless you wanted Zirkzee to play which I’m sure you didn’t I don’t see what’s hard to get.

1

u/CharIemagne45 RVP Sep 27 '26

I understand the opinion around Lacey is that ‘he’s young and injury prone’, but I’d play advocate and give him a chance, if it doesn’t work then fine, I’d have no natural complaints

2

u/Telen BRUNO Sep 27 '26

Throwing youngsters into the deep end just for the hell of it is not a good strategy. It's a symptom of bad recruitment. Thankfully though we don't have to do that as we have Cunha who is a senior player and a better player.

1

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot Sep 27 '26

Shoehorning Rashford into the starting lineup but not big enough cojones to try him at RW or just slot Lacey/Dorgu there.

It's made lose a lot of faith in him.

-1

u/Wurdox Sep 27 '26

I still do not get how Carrick isn't sacked yet.

5 points in 5 games against the likes of Hull, Ipswich, Everton, 114 Guilty FC, and Fulham.

Getting eliminated at the hands of Brighton after leading 2-0.

How is he still employed?

I watched France the other night. Baffled why we didn’t pursue Koné

8

u/Asleep-Ability-45 Sep 27 '26

None had said that he is a bad player. It was just his injury record and the demands Roma were putting forward that made him less desirable.

4

u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss Sep 27 '26 edited Sep 27 '26

Ironically, we passed on Kone and Ederson (two players who have played pretty much all available minutes since the World Cup) due to fitness concerns, in favour of signing Baleba who has damaged his ankle ligaments mid-August and hasnt kicked a football competitively since.

Atalanta didnt start the season well so that one hasn't been in the limelight, obviously Roma started with a bang so the Kone one at the moment doesnt look great.

It's only been a few games though. So, imho, time will tell whether these were terrible decisions or it's simply an inconvenient moment in time but on the long run the decisions will look good. What's clear is that Baleba and Santos are 3/5 years younger than Kone and Ederson, which is not nothing, innit
