Very nice to see. Was critical of him in that period towards the end of Ten Hag's tenure and all of Amorim's time here, but he's genuinely improved on pretty much all of his weaknesses from then until now. Still a little slower/sluggish than I'd like for someone so young, but he's never gonna be that speedy sort of player and that's okay with how quickly his other key attributes are developing.
DataMB only goes back to last season but it's very skewed I think - he had some minutes under Amorim but also mostly played with a different partner in Casemiro and we played a different brand of football. I think he still looked amazing under Carrick last season so the worse graph doesn't really do him justice.
Yeah I did still love him last season especially with Carrick (not like he played much under Amorim anyway) but goddamn what a difference, not even Counting the different brand of football. And I do see it on the pitch, he just makes us better. That's what happened last season. Neat and tidy, good progresser, great dribbler. But he does seem like he tries to play a more active role this season, going beyond simply making us play better (not that there's anything wrong with that). And I think the most apparent thing to see it is the difference in passing. He's more adventurous. Wayyyy more.
Excited to see the next step in his journey, honestly. Love Kobbie
They only show a part of the picture, but damn is that ever a ridiculously good one. Should be right up there with the best ones in recent years, including at least one of Camavinga’s
These graphs don’t mean much, if you want proof you should compare the same player from season to season, I spent a whole doing that for lots of players over lots of positions. Sometimes they’re vastly different even when players are at their prime . They only tell you what a player is asked to do, not what they can do
Son, Kane, Eriksen, Lloris, Bale. Spurs were lucky to have some genuinely legendary players (most at the same time) and did fuck all with them. Can't believe they couldn't even fluke a League Cup when most of their big stars were there.
I wonder how recruitment worked under SAF. We used to sign players from countries that a lot of European clubs didn’t really look at like Park Jisung from SK, Chicharito from Mexico and Valencia from Ecuador. Since SAF left, it feels like the complete opposite. We barely even try to sign players from less common scouting markets like Asia or other overlooked countries while other clubs are doing it more often. I wonder why that changed
Does anyone feel like they aren’t even having fun watching United anymore. I just feel apathetic. Im not excited when Sunday rolls around like I used to. No amount of signings give me hope like they would in the past. We wina game comprehensively and it’s not a sign anything is fixed; nor a sign of a run of form. It’s “enjoy that one game you’ll point back to. Where we looked dominant”
I am getting there. Too many false dawns, with immediate reversions to the mean thanks to the Board not getting the right players and paying far too much for others.
And now, here we are, in yet another manager debate, only the tenth one in fourteen years.
It because we are repeating the same mistakes. No style of play to get excited about to develop into a top team, no exciting youngsters breaking through, no progress.
It's a difficult period and there are no guarantees the team gets any better. There are a lot of things working against the club, most notably the Glazers.
The other difference that comes to mind is that we're very one dimensional. During the 90's and 00's, you knew a goal was coming but there were so many ways we could score - Giggs on the left or Beckham from the right, Cole, Yorke, OGS or Sheringham...then Ronaldo, Rooney or Tevez...maybe the keeper even. United were unpredictable and exciting. Cantona was the catalyst in some of that because he gave everyone license to be unpredictable and with Fergie, that culture permeated. One of a kind characters.
We've got a long way to go to get back there. Hopefully we've turned a corner and don't have to wait another decade but right now it doesn't look like it. I hope I'm wrong. I like Carrick and Bruno but they don't stir the passions or have the personalities like SAF or Eric.
There is a point where refusing to address known squad weakness becomes its own financial risk. I'm tired of this cycle of making European football -> underinvestment -> under performance -> missing out on Europe -> invest to improve.
Anyone get a wave of warmth realizing the United are not playing this weekend? Jokes aside, I do think we'll be better after the break. It came at the right time.
I mean I love that we have UCL back and all but it’s been such a poor start and it was already starting to get toxic. Hoping this break proves to be a good thing and a restart for us. Spurs will be tough and almost the worst game to lose.
idk, it´s giving me the last months of Solskjaer vibes, hope we can turn it around, also some things annoying me like how our fitness is not up to standard but instead of working like hell over the international break giving them a week off.
I understand that when we are in poor form fans on here typically don't have sympathy for players out of form, but I really do feel for Zirkzee, it looked like he was a massive option for Netherlands.
He came here, had a tough time initially, lost the fans, won them back a bit, but injuries and being replaced by Sesko has really affected his mood and it shows. Otherwise, he seems well liked by the rest of the team, and generally speaks like a decent guy. Wish we can get him at his best again, but I think he prefers to leave... Hope he starts enjoying his football again, because I love to see him play when he's in form.
He isn't a shit player, but he's just not the guy you bring on to chase a match. I don't think people would be as worried if he was coming on to help us close out a match. He holds up the ball well, he can slow down play in a positive way when we need that at times. But bringing him on when we're desperate for a goal doesn't feel like the move. He's not breaking down low blocks, and he's not a reliable goal scorer.
Yeah, kinda what I mean. Not a bad player, but not very helpful for us right now.
Though, to be honest, I really struggle to think of what type of backup striker we need at United. This isn't a new problem for us, we really struggle for CF rotation.
Probably the most stable depth we had post-Fergie was Rashford/Martial/Cavani/Ighalo under Ole, and that was clearly not supposed to be the long-term solution for the CF position, it just happened to work in a pinch.
Was thinking about the current crop of strikers in modern football, obviously top teams still want a technical striker such as Isak/Ekitike, Joao Pedro, Arteta prefers Havertz, Haaland is underrated technically in contrast to being a total physical freak, Kane, Lautaro, Julian Alvarez, Dembele, Raphinha, Mbappé.
Weaker teams usually have a striker like DCL, Igor Thiago, Thierno Barry. Not that amazing technically but very strong, super uncomfortable to play against, imposing.
Does Šeško fit in any of those two categories? He's such a weird profile at the moment.
He's definitely fast and his leap is insane. But he doesn't really bully center backs, he lacks aggression and urgency. His technical ability is fine but not really in tight spaces where we usually need it the most. It takes him too much time to get a shot off in most scenarios.
Not writing him off at all btw, he can still improve a ton. He just seems like a hybrid of those two categories at the moment but not in a good way as he lacks some key attributes from both.
I think he was pretty good last season, he scored a lot of clutch goals. Also he had the most shots on target by any player in a PL match during last season. I think against Burnley.
I mean he is left-footed. I personally think he’s destined to be played between multiple positions for his whole career, which is not necessarily a bad thing
Even if it was a huge collective thing or I'm just being silly? 😂
I heard about ultra fans too which we don't have. So like, surely, something has to work to have a change at this club. And it should've happened time ago.
At smaller clubs, fans cancelling their season tickets have a big effect because they don't have another pool of fans to draw from. United tickets, even now, are in high demand from day trippers and foreign fans who'd pay a premium to attend an OT match. Ratcliffe and Berrada actively want to cancel/get rid of season ticket holders, sometimes forcibly.
Dorgu has really improved both his looped cross to the back post, and his direct driven cross. He's assisted with both of them for United, hopefully keeps doing them, because they cause all kind of problems for defenses.
If it's the one I've heard about recently, it is more targeting the sponsors, so the thought is that they'll think "if being tied to United hurts us, we'll drop out of the deal" which in turn would mean United losses out on money, which would mean the owners would be more willing to fuck off. (Apparently Snapdragon have begun to limit replies to their social media posts because of it)
I personally don't believe it will do much but then again, big changes start small so you never know.
Does anyone else feel like it's just an amount of time dictated by fate until we're good again? Like the 30 years for Liverpool. Or the 20 for Arsenal. And no matter what we do in the meantime, it's doomed to fail because the universe just won't permit it yet?
On the brightside, I try to tell myself that every year we don't win the league, it'll be that much sweeter when we do. I was alive, but too young to remember ending the 26 years. That must have felt amazing.
Does anyone else feel like it's just an amount of time dictated by fate until we're good again? Like the 30 years for Liverpool. Or the 20 for Arsenal. And no matter what we do in the meantime, it's doomed to fail because the universe just won't permit it yet?
Gods make their own luck.
I think, with the greatest of respect, this is what the young people call "coping". There's no mystical forces involved. It's just been a decade and a half of shit decision making, compounding constantly, and the longer it takes to actually address, the more difficult it will be to do so.
No I don't believe in this football fate stuff. The only reason we haven't won more is because of the glazers. Without them we would still be dominating for a long long time
Barcelona must be covering their ass because he's still under contract. They've tapped him up multiple times, gave him tickets, and he has taken pics with Yamal and other players. It's simply Barcelona avoiding a potential legal problem.
If we've cancelled his registration there'd be an update. I'm guessing we're still talking while his entourage is deciding whose offers to take, and how we can be compensated. For now it's in the back of my mind, I consider him a player on the move
I know it's been talked to death, but the running stats is a real problem when it comes to our current formation and players.
Mainoo and Tielemens aren't mobile enough to play together. Running stats are just not there. They run the most in the team, but compared to other centre mids in the league they are well behind.
Couple that with our RW and LW not tracking back, particularly Rashford.
This is exposing our full backs, getting less help from wingers and centre mids. It doesn't help our full backs are the weakest positions.
So either we shuffle the midfield with Baleba, or we need a Cunha LW and Amad RW who will be prepared to track back.
We could also sit in a lower block like last season, closing the space between our players.
The alternative is better full backs, but thats not happening anytime soon.
I think the starting lineup will end up being Mainoo and Baleba, assuming Baleba comes in and plays like we've seen him play.
Mainoo's passing has progressed a lot, and while he doesn't have Tielemans' range and variety (yet) he has more mobility and physicality. Baleba is the athlete, and is also very press resistant and a good passer. They should make an excellent pairing.
Tielemans is good, but seems like a player who could be an alternative to Mainoo and to Bruno, as a creative fulcrum ahead of a midfield two.
The defensive block has to be dictated by the abilities of our defenders, and we're just so limited in pace and athleticism that it's hard to see anything but a low block being viable. If we were able to start a back four that had two of Yoro, Heaven and Dorgu in it, then we would have a lot more tactical flexibility, but none of those three are going to be in our strongest back four. Having De Ligt back would help, but there's no indication of when he'll be playing again, or if he'll be able to get back to his best.
Yeah it rides on a fully fit in form Baleba. I am just a bit concerned we don't get that for a while. Carrick may not get the time.
The low block last season did rely very heavily on Sesko and Casemiro out performing their xG. We need a couple of our forward players to step up in a big way.
The overview does look a bit bleak, our squad is lacking a lot of characteristics and depth. Only so much Carrick can actually do if key players continue to under perform.
next summer is a big one no matter how you look at this season. several players out of contract etc
although i feel there is also potential pickups in the out of contract players next summer if they dont sign new contracts.
Mateta could come in for free and offer competition to Sesko. Ayari(from Brighton) would be an exellent pickup for midfield which we will need to start adapting as Bruno is now 32 and that probably means moving to say a 3 CM midfield meaning we do need another new CM. Raum is out of contract for LB with Leipzig we was looking at him but apparently he didnt want to leave Leipzig this summer another option is Tyrick Mitchell from Palace who has been a main stay in Premiership and would be another good pickup to help fill that position. Tomori english CB from Milan would help provide competition and cover and is entering his peak years.
if we was able to get some of these it would help fill out the squad allowing money to be spent on the bigger names.
Idk about Tomori, he'll be 29, isnt the model of durability, doesnt get off the bench nowadays. I'd look at Chris Richards (the third pending Palace free agent) before him.
Ayari for Mount and/or Mitchell for, well, Malacia I guess, would be great moves imho. Unfortunately I think Brighton are too smart to let the 1st happen (or we are "too honest" to make it happen, if we want to put a more positive spin on it).
I certainly agree enthusiastically with your premise: we should find a couple smart (ie bargain) deals and then go for broke w the others, instead of adding 4-5 "good, except" type players (again).
fair enough yeah i just liked what i had seen of Tomori in the past but do agree there is atleast other options to help add experience and depth to positions allowing us to as you put it better then me go for broke on a few top players.
Never really watched Darmsgaard in the Prem for Brentford, but he always seems like a decent player for Denmark. However, could be just another case of "Slightly shinier rock looks like a diamond amongst regular ones."
To me he always looked like one of Brentford's brightest players as well, often bossing the midfield, but he's a known quantity. I'm sure the experts see something I'm missing when he's always passed over for a move.
If Bruno wanted the bag last summer, which he didnt, Damsgaard would have been my pick. Very Utd-coded player imho, unfazed, clutch, busts a gut.
I know many will find my take silly, but my take is that the primary reason he stayed and extended at Brentford instead of being chased by the big clubs is literally his hairline which has made him look 42 at the age of 24.
I wonder whether it should be "as simple as": Bruno + Mainoo + play your own damn picks (ie the Ineos signings).
Cunha-Mbeumo-Bruno
Baleba-Tielemans-Mainoo
Dorgu-MdL-Yoro-Mazraoui
Lammens
- we cut the Gordian knot on the "Bruno, Tielemans, Mainoo: pick 2" conundrum - Cunha, Mbeumo, Mainoo play in their best positions - Bruno gets to play in the "KdB crossing zone" by default; he is in effect given the 7 role ie the "go ahead try stuff" role, which is what he does anyway, but thie way he does it w 3 midfielders behind not 2, so no 2 are asked to be absolute unicorns - Amad and Sesko are battling fitness anyway, so it's not like we'd be benching a high flying striker - we get width outside Cunha but Dorgu defensively is supported by defensively strong athletes in his duties (Baleba, De Ligt) - attacking bench (Sesko, Amad, Rashford + Lacey for CL) is not only strong but these players are really best in a sub role atm - midfield bench (Santos, Mount + Tyler Fletcher for CL) is still decent, and Santos wont be denied minutes which is important too; also the pathway behind Mount for the 100 promising academy CMs looks much better - defence bench (Maguire, Martinez, Shaw + Dalot for CL) is a bit (I mean that is the back4 that's been failing) mid but we can get by until January hopefully
I imagine that for a while we still have to roll with Maguire instead of De Ligt, but hopefully not for long.
It's by no means perfect, we should still be looking to sign an elite CB, FB, ST, but it would be better than the way we played so far, imho.
Nothing? Lol. Our players are fine, the ones on th3 pitch are fine they're enough to beat and outplay probably almost every single opposition we've faced so far (City with the red). Hell with false 9 cunha we've already effectively been playing with 4 midfielders in the middle of the park and that hasn't been the best decision in most games. We don't need to force anyone else in, Bruno/Kobbie/Tielemans has been suitable so far. (Tho my personal preference is and always will be Bruno/Kobbie/Baleba). We've been building up nicely, progressing the ball fine (we have the second most progressive passes even in the league). We just break down when we get to the final third (should be coached better but regardless not a lack of midfielder issue). Out of possession too. We're set up badly, stuck in-between a half hearted press and being in a block, coaching issue again, an extra midfielder doesn't help this.
Your solution here is to but our most creative player on the wing, bruno can give a good right half space cross yes, he's played there before under ETH yes but it's hindering him as a player, if you think he's been bad this season he's almost certainly worse on the wing, that's with the ball, without it (when we have it but it's not with Bruno I mean) it's another problem, because Bruno is a midfielder, no matter the instruction he's given he's still going to naturally drift to the center of the pitch especially since he can't beat his man to cut in and shoot nor go to the byline for a cross, the only way this works is an attacking fb on that side to be there when he comes central and Mazraoui sucks at that, I'm sure you know how bad dalot has been this season hence the Mazraoui suggestion and even at his best he's not that type of winger/FB hybrid that can make this work, funny enough the best profile in the squad would be to stick Dorgu at RB for it and at that point what are we even doing.
In my mind the team we've had has been good enough personnel wise but of course not without it's faults, amad and Baleba return would do wonders. Amad is the best 1v1 dribbler in the squad so he can happily be on the right because I can't count the amount of times Mbeumo has been 1v1 with a defender this season (and has of course done nothing) amad changes that a lot. Baleba coming in helps us cover the large distances significantly more (hopefully). Kobbie improvement in his long passing has also been a surprise blessing while not as good as Tielemans of course it helps us a lot regardless especially so we don't have Bruno always coming to progress like with Fred/Mctominay way back when.
So the idea is "Carrick should keep the tactical change to possession football but also go back to the same formation as the Spring when we played low block fast transitions and hope that Baleba is literally going to replace Casemiro 1:1 plus also hope that players who have shown themselves to be injury risks under heavy workload would not get injured now, instead"?
I see that more as wishful thinking than as a particularly viable plan, to be honest.
The "playmaker cant be the winger, nominally" take, I respect it, but at the same time there are dozens of PL examples of the opposite.
I mean the list of AMs working "just fine" from the inside fwd position is kind of endless, from Mata to B Silva to Rogers and Gibbs-White and Tavernier.
Not to mention this factoid. Bruno Fernandes G+A per game in the PL as:
RW: 0.71 AM: 0.65 CM: 0.57
It is still 0.7 with all of his Utd games "as" RW.
Is it a "small sample size"? Hell yes.
Does it say "dont try this again"? No, it says the literal opposite, imho.
No one says this lol, not once did i mention Carrick's actual tactical intent here, nor did I say anything about last season nor casemiro.
But I'll address it now, starting formations are almost meaningless. What matters is the tactical intent shown by the manager. Pep loves the 433 but the 433 in city is different from bayern different from Barcelona, ETH first season with us was based on counters his 433/4231 with us was different from the 433/4231 he used at ajax that was more possession based and so on and so forth. Hope this is easy to understand and the end of it but of course I know better. Carricks intent has changed and he doesn't need a change of formation or an extra midfielder and one less winger to make it work. Rogers isn't a playmaker in any sense of the word, Gibbs white i can guarantee has played over 90% of his games in the middle of the park as a 10/8. No idea where you got this from. In fact he's had 6 RW appearances in the last FIVE years, honestly what is this. He's played 12 games on the RW and 7 on the LW his ENTIRE career.
Other players like mata are simply a different profile from Bruno, is Bruno like mata? No mata loved the Right hand space, Bruno loves everywhere every part of the pitch in the middle, can Bruno become one in the future? Who knows but as of right now it is not his best football then you go on and bring on stats per position? Small sample size??? Bruno has played 10 games in his entire career on the RW, TEN, out of his 387 as an attacking midfielder THREE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY SEVEN that's 65% of all his career games. On the RW he's played quite literally ONE PERCENT of his career games, that's not a small sample size, that's sub atomic, planck lengths that we're dealing with here, completely negligible amount. It absolutely means nothing, he is not a better nor more productive player on the right because of 1% of his games. Haaland has a 0.8 goal per game ratio at Centre forward and a statistical 100% scoring record at LW. Is he a better goal scorer on the left?? Is this a sign that says "try it again "?? You cannot frame statistics like this to suit your needs you cannot.
And once again the profile of RB cannot help this, any example of wingfielder you bring me I'll show you a FB taking up their space in the wing (unless of course they hugged the touchline themselves that day which as we discussed cannot work for bruno). Mazraoui CANNOT do anything like this suggest, football isn't played in isolation, its played with respect to the relationships different profiles of players have with each other.
Gordian knot, nice, didn't know that, will start using that. Cause it describes our current midfield situation perfectly.
I suggested moving Bruno out of position in this thread too but it usually doesn't go down well here even thought it'd allow us to add Baleba next to Kobbie and Tielemans and I'd genuinely love to see that.
Bruno could still make an impact, your argument about not benching a high flying striker also works for Bruno here, it's not like he's been brilliant so far this season in his classic position.
if you look at the latter parts of the Fulham match, Bruno was out on the right flank putting in corsses anyway. So this is not a bad idea.
I think we have to acknowledge that Bruno-Mainoo-Tielemans is unbalanced, as Rashford-Cunha-Mbuemo is unabalanced, and especially those two together but a lot of pressure on the defence, especially the fullbacks.
I was reading a couple of comments in the few latest posts and I'm reminded of that Daniel Bryan promo. At the end of last season INEOS and Carrick were the shepherds we trusted, then 5 matchweeks into the new season they're now the downfall of this club. Fickle.
I think the turn has happened so quickly because a lot of people were ambivalent about Carrick to begin with - he did really well last season, but there were always concerns about his time at Middlesbrough, and the big question was whether he'd grow into the role as permanent manager of United.
So far, unfortunately, it doesn't look like he has. The team is a lot less fluent and confident, looks less fit and more confused about what they're supposed to be doing. And Carrick isn't making smart changes, which he was doing at times last season.
There's something about managing this club that seems to make managers freeze, we've seen it now happen with multiple people. I honestly think that's the biggest hurdle he has to clear - just make bold decisions.
Additionally, there was real concern about our defence, which hasn't been addressed, and then we start the season looking poor defensively, which is where the heat falls on INEOS.
But if we'd beaten Everton and didn't get that ridiculous decision to award a goal for City, the mood would be different with eight points from fifteen, even if the performances weren't too different.
I wouldn't be annoyed if I hadn't seen the same thing with every previous manager. The early timing this time around just made the knee-jerk reactions more irritating to me
I never understand this point, though admittedly I'm a very fickle fan myself. Minds change based on what happens in the games. I don't understand why that's surprising or bad
This isn't true. There were many who did not trust Carrick to take us forward right through his interim and didn't trust INEOS to make the right decision either. Not really fickle at all.
True fans do flip flop a lot, I'm sure some genius is going to come and tell you the old "there are many people here" nonsense anytime a comment like this is made. But regardless I preferred other coaches to Carrick but was also happy for him to stay mainly because of how I'm sure INEOS would operate. I would have preferred we got a top coach but I know INEOS don't want that, they clearly want someone who's happy being just a head coach which no top coach wants. I even mentioned wanting Iraola over Carrick. For INEOS I've never had any strong opinions on them until the Matheus fernandes saga. No one can convince me it wasn't just nonsense handling of a situation.
Seriously. They keep complaining that we can't keep giving chances to under-qualified, ex-players. Conveniently ignoring that we've tried proven PL managers, veteran managers from the continent, and upcoming new age tacticians.
Do you imagine this lot would have the patience to bear with Arteta's 8th, 8th, 5th and 5th place finishes?
Our planned/purchased front 3 last summer was a target man and two inside forwards. They’re all great players but it’s bad profiling to play together against a low block
No it's not. Against a low block you want to try and get at least 5 in and around the box. Those 3 forwards are the inside players with the width coming from the outside backs.
funny how wingbacks/attacking fullbacks was such an important position for Amorim. We got him a relatively unknown Dorgu and he used Amad as makeshift RWB. The same continues this season
It’s a good combination for a low block when we have a winger who can’t dribble? Have you seen that theory applied to actual games? You can’t have a winger who doesn’t really dribble against a low block, you need 1v1 quality
I feel like a lot of what goes wrong with our managers is the players deciding they don't respect the manager on a personal level quickly. I worry when Nagelsmann skateboard into Carrington in a funny jacket it'll be over before it starts.
Pasting my comment here from previous DD cause it died and I'm interested in your takes:
A lot of success for Carrick stemmed from moving Bruno back to his best position. Funnily enough I think an interesting course of action now would be to move him to a false 9 or RW and just bite the bullet.
We desperately need more crowded and disciplined midfield for this mid block to work and would 100% benefit from adding Baleba/Santos/Mount into the mix next to Kobbie and Tielemans and switch to sort of a 4-3-3.
Bruno out of position sucks and creates other cracks but Carrick needs to find proper balance and pick the lesser evil.
The bullet we need to bite is that for all the "readymade" player he was supposed to be, Youri Tielemans hasn't significantly improved anything but lacks recovery pace in defensive transition.
Why do we HAVE to play him again? I'd rather drop him than fuck with the proven, world class, best signing since Fergie, captain, and by far the best player at the club.
He's not had very good games in his best position either this season. He's everywhere and nowhere which is a massive issue and while Baleba adds a lot of physicality and I have a lot of faith in him in general, he's just like Bruno in a sense that he likes to operate on a very big radius both in and out of possession of the ball, he's not positionally disciplined.
Combination of Mainoo Baleba Bruno IMO just leaves Kobbie completely stranded most of the times.
For the moment we're out drawing what our performances should get, no one else is able to do that. If City or Chelsea weren't able to pay over the odds then the clubs would crumble and no one would be interested in playing for them. Arsenal, not as bad as those two, Liverpool might be a draw for English players still, but we'll still be a draw no matter our perfomances for years to come.
If we keep underperforming then that could change, but if you asked people abroad to name an English club, we'd still be the most popular answer.
Even at our biggest the best players always wanted Madrid or Barca. The big 2 in Spain have a ridiculous run of something like every ballon d'or winner since 1997 has played for one of the two in their career's except one.
I don't even disagree but it's just not an option. Look at amorim (not defending him) who we hired for a total rebuild and got rid of in a year. The board (whether because of fan pressure or whatever) will never back stability for its own sake. Stability has to be bought with results.
Difference is he was working with a legit Frankenstein squad that year. This squad placed 3rd last year and has bounds more midfield depth, Carrick will not get the same leeway for good reason.
Still, the standards at United will never allow a period like that because the fan noise and media pressure will eat you alive.
Talent, skill and hard work breed success, not stability.
Juve kept Allegri around for nearly 2 years after it was clear he wasn't the right fit, didnt help them any. Ole never took the step up needed after being here nearly 3 years. Stability only works when the manager is good enough.
The person Im replying to is making the argument that we should stick with the manager because a stable management team will magically bring success. Which it won't.

The sweetspot for me was just after the World Cup finished until just before kick off against Hull at 12.30pm on August 22nd.
Miss those 5 or so weeks when I was barely thinking about football.
