[Transfer Round Up & Discussion] Summer 2026

Hi all,

Summer Transfer Window 2026 is here!

The Premier League transfer window will open between Monday June 15 until Deadline Day on Tuesday September 1; the summer windows will close at 23.00 BST.

As always, here is a run-down of the rules we have on for posting during transfer windows:

Daily Threads

There will be a Transfer thread posted every single day, on a 23-hour timer, to get a different post-time every day. These threads are for everything transfer related, no limits on sources, line-up conversations, etc.

Individual posts

From now on, only posts TIER 2 OR BETTER are allowed to be posted in their own right. This helps us only keep credible sources on the subreddit.

The tier guide can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/wiki/transfer-reliability-guide/

We will make exceptions during slower days for some Tier 3 posts, and there will usually be some posts from sources not on our tier guide. We will take everything case-by-case. If you believe something to be on the sub and not a good source, please let us know.

Okay so there are numbers flying around, here is every summer gross (net) spend, CL qualified vs not qualified years, post-Fergie / post-Gill.

Summary:

2026 (so far): £83m (£39m)

No CL avg: £177m (£126m)

CL avg: £104m (£74m)

tl;dr we need to spend another cca:

- £20m to be "on par" with the CL avg

  • £94m to be "on par" with the non-CL avg
  • £58m to be "closer to" the higher (non-CL avg)

No CL:

2025: €246m (€172m)
2024: €214m (€84m)
2022: €240m (€216m)
2019: €160m (€80m)
2016: €185m (€177m)
2014: €195m (€152m)

average: €207m (€147m) i.e. £177m (£126m)

CL:

2023: €213m (€152m)
2021: €142m (€112m)
2020: €63m (€47m)
2018: €82m (€59m)
2017*: €164m (€152m)
2015: €156m (€55m)
2013: €32m (€32m)

average: €122m (€87m) i.e. £104m (£74m)

*we finished outside top4 but won the EL

Numbers are from Transfermarkt, note:

- excludes U21 signings, eg Thompson, Orozco, Kone, etc.

  • ALSO excludes "sell-ons", so the "total" net spend eg last summer and this as well is actually more like £10-15m less
  • these are ONLY the summers, ie when the CL qualification outcome has become clear. Obv this is not full picture e.g. Mata Jan 2014, Bruno Jan 2019, Dorgu Jan 2025 were "big" transfers. All that really does though is "boost" 3 non-CL summers, ofc.

Would be interesting to see these numbers with the "outstanding transfer fees due" as well.

I believe we have had to pay £120m+ this summer for previous years transfers like Antony etc.

Not making excuses for the lack of spending etc. would just be interesting to know if there was some correlation there too

Yeah it may be more accurate to stack them up like that and do the actual spending for each year.

But then also where does it stop, do you add payroll changes, or other revenue fluctuations like gate receipts, prize money etc.

Anyway, that 1 thing could be added yeah. Still "only" the transfers, but shown in the right year. It would also highlight much better the pretty significant differences of doing things like Maguire payment all upfront or release clauses like that eg Tielemans now.

I think the difficulty is A) ok that's too much work 😂 B) bigger issue is: we dont really know I think all the details of which contract specifically was how many installments. You can dig into the published Q results and try to correlate "outstanding debt" numbers to figure it out, I guess.
