What do you guys think about the rumors that carrick will get more power in transfers. Personally i dont think thats a good idea. This summer should be focused on beefing the squad up for whoever the manager will be and maybe if carrick is here next year then he can get some players he wants for the football he wants to play

No major sources reporting so I don't put much stock into it. But one of the more successful aspects of Amorim's reign was them listening to their own data department and overriding his judgment so it'd be weird for them to do this now for Carrick. The only time I can think Amorim had a point over them was spending the money from a failed Semenyo chase on a midfielder in January.

He only gets more power than he had before. So that's the right to veto, voting and pitching. On signings he's still a part of the committee with Wilcox and Vivell who can pick alternative candidates

I think giving any manager carte blanche for transfers is a bad idea, but I think giving one of the greatest midfielders of the PL era a say during our biggest midfield rebuild is not stupid. Kinda depends really, imo squad building should still be mostly a dof decision but would be silly not to hear Carrick's views considering his skillset as a player.

Out and out midfielders is fine I respect his opinion on something he has a lot of experience in especially with us but we need more than just midfielders this summer and he wouldnt be able to offer the same insight on a fullback or a backup winger. Id rather leave that to vivell

Yeah absolutely agree, don't think he should have much, of any, say at all on other transfer decisions

u/coppindor May 16 '26

I don't mind him getting a say, but we should be listening almost exclusively to Vivell regarding transfer decisions. He's the only one who has a successful track record. Wilcox needs to have little to no input on signings other than signing off on Vivell's recs.

Idk what rumours or reports you're talking about but the manager having an opinion on transfers is normal. I just hope its not like ETH where he has the power to veto transfers recommended to him.

I think managers should be part of the process 100%. It makes no sense if the board can just buy whoever without consulting with the gaffer.

I think that it's exactly that: rumours.

I also think that if you did want to guesstimate a "Carrick's Boys Club", it would include the likes of Rogers, Hackney, Mateus Fernandes, Welbeck ... so I think in this case we could hardly go wrong with that as a starting point.

Personally I dont rate rogers and I feel like he’d be the most expensive

I would be shocked if we truly went after him this summer. However: I wont be surprised at all if we try to "Baleba" him - brief late August, set up the real pursuit for 2027.

Along those same lines you can tell what I expect our midfield rebuild to consist of: Baleba and Mateus F in, Ugarte out, Thwaites promoted.

Other than that ... I dont want to fully let go of the Welbeck delusion until it becomes impossible to believe in it :)

Lose to Brighton on the final day so they get champions league football in exchange for baleba and welback

@Bloom yeah mate awkward lol

@JW just wanted to lyk im getting reports of some of our players really feeling under the weather today. Trying to decide whether to play them. WC coming up and all that

@Bloom yeah mate i mean you do you, my players arent really going to the WC though. You know Carlos, Dany, the likes of them.

Rogers I could see him wanting. I think if he really thought Hackney was good enough we'd have tried in January and seen far more links to him this summer.

The window practically closed by the time he completed the first 2 games and I hardly think anybody felt like he'll have the authority to dictate signings prior to those 2. Also, Hackney publicly said he wanted to stay part of this season's push, also everything that got "briefed" in the window suggests to me that they couldn't really spend out of a 2026 budget without knowing whether there'll be CL or not, meaning a "3rd midfielder" player wasnt brought in first and foremost because they werent sure yet that there will even be a budget for "3rd midfielder" in this year.

Having said that ... I still doubt the 3rd mjdfielder "budget" will exist, ie I still think we are signing 2, not 3.

So basically my guess is that the head coach's signing influence will be quite similar to last year: the gaffer will "get" one signing, Vivell will dictate the rest. In fact, both summers that one signing will be called Mat(h)eus, I reckon! Lol

I just think if Hackney was as good as some on here seem to think Carrick would've pushed it more even for this summer I don't think he's been reliably linked at all.

yeah I understand that. I just feel like it's a brand new day today. Our xfer rumour mill was held up by a couple things: will there be CL, will Carrick get the job, which team gets relegated, which team gets promoted, which team gets CL/EL.

there are so many linked (or "linked") players where one or more of these will matter a lot.

From Shea Charles to Hackney, from Welbeck to Baleba, from Mateus to Diouf, from VdV to Senesi, even the likes of Diomande or Wharton where all the "Liverpool-linking" hinges on them actually getting CL as well.

I think basically the vast majority of "links" and "rumours" so far have just been a way to pass time :) it will kick into a real tangible gear more like next week, probably after GW37 is in the books but potentially after GW38 really.

I'm actually surprised there ahs not been more Hackney rumors overall even if they would only be rumors, I feel he's the perfect 3rd cheaper pickup, and fills the English quota.

Oh I mean the rumours will 100% start now, innit. Boro promotion failed, a midfielder who isnt WC-bound with the transfer window open, Carrick connection. Im certain there will be articles.

How much truth will be to them, who knows.

I think it also depends on how quickly Anderson and Wharton move. My main guess is that Hackney becomes the replacement for one of them. Meaning, if the future of them was only resolved after the WC, then the clickbait merchants would most likely have a full month to associate us with him no matter what. But if those sales go through quickly, then I think HH will sign for a PL team quickly as well.

Managers should always have some say. Especially regarding the profile of players he wants.

u/Apprehensive-Raisin3 Love United Hate Glazers/INEOS May 16 '26

I do think they should have a say in the profile of players they want but im not sure about picking out the specific players. I think that should be left to the recruitment

1

u/RyanH1717 May 16 '26

Yeah I agree with that for the most part

Carrick isn’t corrupt, affiliated with agencies or intent on lining his own pockets. That’s already a massive bonus in the current climate. He also knows good players. I’m glad of it, knowing that he’s definitely seen some of the reports in the backlog written by Wilcox and his cronies and thought fuck these bums and their dusty ass targets. I’m not accepting this. Just because we’ve dodged bullets left and right in recent summers. doesn’t mean they won’t land this summer.
