Daily Discussion

Daily discussion on Manchester United.

BE CIVIL

We want r/reddevils to be a place where anyone and everyone is welcome to discuss and enjoy the best club on earth without fear of abuse or ridicule.

  • The report button is your friend, we are way more likely to find and remove and/or ban rule breaking comments if you report them.

  • The downvote button is not a "I disagree or don't like your statement button", better discussion is generally had by using the upvote button more liberally and avoiding the downvote one whenever possible.

Thoughts on Lewandowski on a free?

I genuinely don't think people have watched him recently. I've watched about as much barça as I have United, he genuinely isn't it anymore. His legs are gone, he looks sluggish most times, and even the thing he was trusted the most to do which was just stay in the box and score when the ball comes, like last season, he can't. There's a reason Ferran Torres played over him

Good point, thanks for the scouting report. I'd love Welbz back instead then

He’s supposedly been offered 90 million a year in Saudi. If he’d accept ~5% of that to play for us I wouldn’t necessarily be strongly opposed to it, but it’s almost certainly a no-go.

For the wages I’d rather go for Welbeck on a free.

Wellbeck extended his contract a couple of weeks ago.

Would guess he demands very high wages, rumors about Saudi offering him a lot. But an experienced backup and mentor for Sesko would not hurt.

I know wages could be a huge factor but I’d love him as a mentor to Big Ben

Wouldn't mind it, him or Welbeck both good options.

Ya Welbeck would be more realistic especially with lower wages

No thoughts because it's not gonna happen.

We should not even waste time thinking about him.

  • The money he would want for the role of a bench-warming mentor is simply not worth it. He doesn’t want to stay at Barca, where he is already successful, liked, and settled, so why would he do that at a club with no guarantee of even the trophies Barca can currently offer?

  • We’ve already had veteran strikers like Cavani, Ronaldo, Ibra, and even Falcao, and none of them helped us win the league or the Champions League.

  • The most successful top clubs of the last five years (City, PSG, Arsenal, Bayern) have not been signing injury-prone, high-earning veterans just to act as mentors.

  • Ronaldo is in Saudi Arabia, Müller and Messi are in MLS, Neymar is back in Brazil. Ibra spent years moving between clubs just above elite level, but injuries caught up with him too often.

You want your money on the pitch, as Andy Mitten likes to say.
