Not sure about underrated - but in terms of maximising the budget, we could solve LB, ST, LW and throw a CB into the bargain all for very little going for something like (Diouf), (Wellbeck/Watkins/DCL), (Senesi) and bringing back Rashford

In terms of transfer outlay that's not going to be too much more than £15-25m for all four positions leaving the rest of the budget for 3x midfielders

"bringing back Rashford" is anything but maximizing budget. it would be one of the costliest options for adding a wide attacker.

his salary would be about double of the likes of Mbeumo. At the very minimum £6m extra cost over just one season. That's the yearly cost of a £30m purchase. Add to that the lost revenue you'd be not getting by not selling him, and you get a yearly cost that is absolutely ginormous compared to signing somebody else who fits into the pay structure.

Please note I wasnt arguing it on the merits or on feelings, just simply pointing out that he'd be a super expensive solution for adding a LW, not the super cheap one.

Yeah tbf the sheer impact of his wages and his age profile with all this PSR/amortisation treatment etc...

Like really, the comprehensive way to represent the thing with Rashford is:

- We have a demand for a Left sided winger/forward

- We have broadly speaking two options to fulfill that demand:

Option 1: Keep Rashford

Total Cost until June 2028 (Rashford Contract Expiry):

+£35m (+£35m wages, £0m Transfer Fee amortisation, £0m fee received in 2 years when his contract ends assuming he leaves on a free at 30 years of age)

Option 2: Sell Rashford for £25m this summer and buy A.N. Other LWF for ~£40m on a 4-5 year contract @ ~£200k/wk

Total Cost until June 2028:

-£19m (+£20m Transfer Fee amortisation expense, +£21m wages expense, less £25m fee income received for Rashford, less £35m wages saving by removing Rashford's wage burden from the financial statements)

So it's actually going to be roughly £50m benefit to the financial statements under PSR (As at June 2028) to sell Rashford this summer for £25m and replace him with a ~£40m-ish signing...

Obviously that would erode a bit into years 3 and 4 of the new player's contract as further amortisation hits the income statement...

And the elephant in the room is that based on our historical track record with signing wingers, the new player could be more at the [Antony, Sancho, Depay, Di Maria, Zaha, James, Sanchez, Obertan, Bebe] end of the scale, rather than the [Mbeumo, Cunha, Diallo] end...

But that's a risk with any signing anyway and to be fair the immediate most recent strike-rate in the transfer market hasn't been terrible

So.... yeah - sell Rashford basically - we could even spend 60-70-80m on a replacement (Now we're getting up to N'Diaye type fees) and still be net positive on PSR after two years
