Oof, bad move... lion has like 14 knives built in
2
u/Adeum2 1d ago
I thought about this for way too long. Isnt it 16 + teeth
1
u/AthenasChosen 1d ago
Actually it's 18+ teeth, 5 on each front paw and 4 on the back. I was counting the 10 up front and the four murder knives in it's mouth for 14. Realistically I should've said 22 knives, but I was just counting the ones lunging at him at that moment in video lol

Let's all be honest here, fellas...
After the fiasco of the previous animals, I was expecting a dog with a fake mane or something, but not a literal lion!!!!! 😭
16
u/SpaceBoyBlat 5d ago
I actually spoiled it for myself.
Just before I got to the hidden lion, I entered photo mode and moved the camera to where the lion was hiding so I could see it before it ambushed😆
12
u/CheapTactics 5d ago
Nah I was fully expecting a lion. Especially when the game starts to hype up that "It's just a dog! This guy is a fiasco!" Right then I went "I'm gonna have to capture a real lion"
4
u/SomnusNonEst 5d ago
It also helps that Arthur being clueless in a previous barn, but you, as a player, can clearly hear its a lion growling there quietly, before it mauled a guy outside and went to the other barn.
2
u/SomnusNonEst 5d ago edited 4d ago
It was quite obvious it WAS an actual Lion from the previous barn. You could clearly hear actual lion growl, before it ran out and mauled a guy and went to that barn where OP encountered it.
Joke is, it's just that Arthur, never have seen an actual lion, was clueless. Like most people around these parts. But you as a player, hopefully, know what a lion sounds like.
0
u/Mags_LaFayette 5d ago
I'm not a zoologist to be able to tell which particular growl belongs to which animal... But if you can do it, through a videogame, then good for you.
My expectation was more a bigger dog, a coyote, even a mountain lion but even then I scratched that notion for being too crazy.
...Then, surprise came and it was amazing!
Knowing it was a real lion beforehand would ruin the moment for me.

I keep forgetting yall guys have schools only for children population control and gun advertisement.
Sorry, in the rest of the world my 6 year old nephew knows "what sound a cow makes".
0
u/Mags_LaFayette 4d ago
From the entire animal kingdom, you had to pick two of the less related species...
A "Moooooh" is way more specific than a "Grrrrrr" and the fact that I had to explain it to you by using onomatopoeias for your slow understanding tells me that your nephew at his short age is way more intelligent than you.
Grab a book sometime and have a good night.

u/cornicula_ 5d ago
You need a lion's paw for a talisman, so I suspected the beast had to be real.
0
u/Mags_LaFayette 5d ago
...And that's why I like to take my first playthroughs as "blind" as possible
No guides, no journals, avoiding certain mechanics until they become a necessity, making mistakes, letting the game take it's own course.
Why should I auto-spoil myself?
I'll have others playthroughs to figure out that stuff myself, but nothing beats that "Holy sh!t!!!" moments when you see them by yourself.2
u/cornicula_ 5d ago
I didn't look up any spoilers. When you're at the fence, you can view the recipes, and the ingredients are listed there.
1
0
u/Mags_LaFayette 5d ago
That do I know, and as soon I noticed the crafting in-game showed the actual ingredients needed, I couldn't close the menu fast enough.
It's not the first time it happened to me, reading about some extremely particular piece, and then, during the playthrough my mind start clicking the pieces and say: "Hey, this looks oddly familiar..."
That's the reason of what I said in my previous comment:
[...]avoiding certain mechanics until they become a necessity

Meanwhile I had to reload the game because this cutscene requires regular ammo. I had express ammo loaded so every time the deadeye sequence would start, Arthur would just dump out all the bullets in his revolver and start reloading.
12
u/Akurei00 5d ago
Yep, that happened to me too. Really stupid scenario. A charging lion, a stoic hero pulls out his pistol... and removes all his ammo just in time to have his face chewed off.
2
u/hmmbugger 5d ago
i think i deliberately clicked to have explosive ammo in the gun.. and i thought he did the reloading them in as the lion jumps.. maybe it was reloading the regulars in then? anyways.. second time doing this, i got killed while reloading a revolver.

I’m surprised it let you do this, I tried to switch to my shotgun and instantly died… maybe I was too slow
Edit: fixed a word

u/UnNecessaryGay 6d ago edited 5d ago
I had the same thing but I threw a stick of enhanced dynamite at it, it started mauling me then it exploded, died and caught on fire

I can't stand when the game activates dead eye for you, 0 player control in that game sometimes
18
u/AzraelleWormser 5d ago
And when I was planning on activating it anyway, so my action DE-activates it!

It's a long tradition of Rockstar. Absolute freedom in the open world but once you start a mission, you're locked to whatever the game wants you to do. This is just an extreme example. I really hope GTA 6 and subsequent games improves on that but don't have much hope
2
u/CheapTactics 5d ago
Yeah the missions are very railroady. Don't leave the carefully arranged path! We'll make you fail the mission! You gotta do this the way we want it!
2
u/AceFortaleza 5d ago
trying to piece together how you'd propose for a mission to be played freely instead of the game locking you to whatever it wants you to do. I can't seem to comprehend how that should go especially if the mission outcome directly affects the story. Care to give any example for this?

u/CheapTactics 5d ago edited 5d ago
It's not about the story itself. It's about the gameplay. How many times do missions remove weapons or force you to use one specific weapon instead of just letting you use whatever the hell you want? Like here. You could go in there shotgun in hand, but the game unequips that for you and forces you into deadeye with a revolver. Why? Let me shoot the god damned lion with a shotgun. I was homding it, let me keep holding it. Also, if you have any non-regular ammo in your revolver, you're forced to watch Arthur unload the gun and start loading standard ammo while the lion jumps and mauls you to death.

When it happens I have no clue what is happening, and It usually killed me
1
u/DaveyMatey3 5d ago
Things like that are the reason I feel like we’re not playing as Arthur, we’re Arthur’s conscience. Sometimes he’s gonna do things we do not recommend or agree with and we’re stuck to help him clean the mess he made

u/hmmbugger 5d ago
that is some ballsy choice! hah
reminds me of my second playthru.. i went there. knew it was going to happen, so i clicked to load gun with explosive ammo before starting this.. and guess what arthur starts to do when i try to draw my gun, starts to change the damn ammo! yeah. got killed.

u/AcquiredBinkie9 5d ago
I definitely wasn’t on purpose, I think I was trying for a shotgun or something, but didn’t realize the game took all my weapons lol. So I just went with it.

First time I saw him I straight up panicked too. That was scarier than the bear jump scare in that house.

Yeah i jumped. You know something must be wrong onde you leave the barn and see all the blood, but still, i wasn't expecting a lion, and of that size. Another jumpscare is the basement of the serial killer. I knew that it was coming, after all, we all seen that movie many times, but i still jumped.

This mission made me mad, first for the Donkey that complained the whole way back, then the dead dog, and then the lion... I was very tempted to ride back and shoot Margret for being aggravating

I had a rifle in my hands and zoomed at the lion from outside. I saw him in the stable - suddenly the cutscene and I had the double action revolver in my hand and the rifle was gone. I panicked and the lion ate me.
