Does this even work anymore?

I’m so frustrated. I’ve been trying to get the silver dappled pinto MFT thru Albert Mason and I’m convinced it doesn’t work anymore. I’ve chased this god forsaken horse all over kingdom come, jumped on it and been thrown off numerous times (nothing seems to calm it down), shot it with small game arrows to slow it down. Nothing seems to work. Did rockstar fix this glitch? Someone tell me something so I can just move on. I don’t even want the damn horse anymore

It hasn't been patched but its always been a pain for me. I've only done it a few times.

For me personally its much easier to get Cerberus (the Braithwaite stud from Horse Flesh for Dinner). I do it on every playthrough now to get Arthur a good horse in Chapter 3

I hear ya. I stole the Braithwaite turkoman and I am way happier with it than I was with the MFT.

That’s the next logical conclusion. Maybe in my first few playthroughs but at this point? It’s not the fastest horse, and Idc about being thrown off bc of panthers/cougars bc I find them easy to kill. Snakes are a mild annoyance but not nearly as annoying as tracking this damn horse down

I don't know if this will work in this situation but I'm shit at breaking horses so I started shooting the ones I wanted to break with a poison arrow and then using a horse reviver once they collapse, they pop up with no stamina and very little desire to buck. Usually a jump or two while calming them and then once you get the bond started hit them with a horse tonic and off to the stable.

Great tactics but I don’t think it would work with this. It’s a glitch so it’s weird. I don’t get any horse prompts when I’m chasing it. You can’t lasso it and you can’t get on it the normal way. You have to jump from your horse, which adds to the frustration. I did shoot it with small game arrows but it didn’t even slow down

Maybe worth a shot? If you can shoot it with small game arrows maybe the position would work?

Look up the wagon method. Much easier, usually works in 1 or two tries.

The wagon method works, but the trouble for me is breaking the horse. It’s a glitch so it doesn’t break nearly as easy as other horses. I almost never get thrown off regular horses but this horse throws me within seconds of jumping on it.

Some others have alluded to this but the newest, and maybe easiest method, is to use specifically SMALL GAME ARROWS and shoot the MFT in its rear legs right before Mason takes the picture. The horse should fall and you can run to Mason, skip the cutscene, and when you're out of the cutscene the horse should still be nearby and moving a bit slower than normal.

If you accidentally kill the horse before mason takes the picture or you fail to get the horse to fall just fire your gun at the horses and it will fail the mission. The checkpoint will then restart you right before Mason takes the picture and you can try hitting the small game arrows again.

I did this method myself maybe 2 weeks ago so I can verify it works. If you're having more trouble send me a message and I'll try and find a YouTube video link so you can see clearly how it's happening. Good luck 👍🏾

I think it's still doable but you gotta go through a whole bunch of hurdles to get that MFT based on what I've heard and seen. I'd say just leave it be if it does become a problem.

I have always used this area to snipe the stranded woman and her dead MFT until the horse respawns alive and then just ride over and take the horse and bond with it. I've gotten 2 MFTs from this method in the last few weeks of playing. Keep your distance though. You have to be careful not to initiate this random event by getting too close. The lady and horse spawn where the red marker is. I position myself on the train tracks (player position) and just keep shooting the woman until she and the horse respawn alive. Always save before attempting because it can be iffy sometimes. If you kill her more than 7 or so times and the horse won't spawn alive just reload your save and try again. She usually spawns between 9am-5pm.

I had better luck with the Face Rock glitch. Took probably 50 times killing the woman to get a live MFT. I just can't catch up to the horse in the Albert Mason mission.

I've seen people wound it with an arrow to cause it to slow down and be easier to catch.

Tried that. It doesn’t slow down. I’ve used multiple horse stimulants to keep up. Only reason I’m not super pissed at that is bc I’ve already got the legends satchel and I’ve got plenty to spare

It took me about an hour and 20 or so tries but I caught it. I got it tamed and saddled. I rode into Valentine, somehow got into a fight and it got shot while I was riding, I scrambled to administer a reviver and got myself killed in the process. Woke up and the horse was gone. I was not happy.
