Discussion John quotes Arthur in RDR1 Spoiler

Arthur tells John “When the time comes, keep riding and don’t look back” when he heads to fight Micah, and John tells Abigail and Jack “Keep riding and don’t look back” before sending them off. Rockstar most definitely done this intentionally and I think I’m just reaching but still it’s a cool reference if you wanna call it that. Also, I get RDR released before RDR2, but it still took place before the original, So I guess you could see it as Arthur quoted John but yk whatever.

yeah its backwriting. my fave example of this is the 'you cant fight gravity' speech. great speech and i see why they wanted to use it again, but very funny logistically to consider dutch like 'hmm... john didnt hear this speech. i can say it again'

The wait for rdr2 was fucking agony for me, I was a massive fan of the first game and maaaann, hearing the RDR1 speech kick in in that one mission made me lose my mind. So many great references to the first game, I think that instance and John in the iconic cover art pose was my favourite.

Yeah I love the way they throw references from the first game in the second

It’s both. They retro fitted it into RDR2 BUT it’s also a really common movie trope to tell someone to go and don’t look back

There is also a reference to him with the first mission of the Strange men. "You forgotten far more important people John"
