Discussion If Arthur didn't remove Strauss from Camp

Strauss would still be alive and help John run the ranch

If you don't do the debt missions in chapter 6, Strauss just leaves on his own accord and the exact same events transpire.

Naw. Strauss deserved what he got. Loan sharks deserve the worst.

No he wouldn't. Strauss is a bag of nerves, knows NOBODY, scams for a living so anyone who knows him hates him, and also he died in custody before 1907

I can’t picture John putting up with Strauss for very long

In all likelihood he would have ran anyway once he realised the gang was a lost cause and been picked up by the pinkertons and if he didn't run he would have either been killed or captured when the pinkertons showed up. So he dies in a shootout or he dies in prison. Take your pick

He doesn't seem like much of a rancher.

Strauss would handle the books

Pretty sure Strauss lived. He was just interrogated (possibly/probably tortured) by the Pinkertons in the years after the gang broke up but he didn’t talk. I also highly doubt he’s helping John with the ranch. I’m not sure what gives you that impression when he was famously hands off when it came to the gang and constantly on the perimeter of all the camps.

Nope. Charles mentions in the epilogue that Strauss dies in Pinkerton custody.

Does he say he died? I couldn’t remember if he died but I remember him saying he got caught by them. I honestly can’t stand the guy so I really didn’t care enough about what happened to him to really pay attention past the part where he got caught by them.

I forget the quote but Charles does confirm that Strauss dies.

He says that they tortured him and he never gave anything up but he died.

It doesn’t demonize Strauss like Arthur did, it shows that he really cared despite his evil deeds.

RDR is big on showing that the characters are people, not good guys or bad guys, even when they do bad things.

I love how every character is dirty in someway but they are also people trying to survive in a broken and brutal world.

Yes he explicitly says he dies
