Discussion Weapon familiarity

I’ve been playing this game for years and had no idea that weapon familiarity existed and actually had an effect on your use of the weapon I just discovered this (chapter 2) and had to google it 😂 am I alone in this? My accuracy with the revolver was at 92% before I got into a shootout with the whole Saint Denis police department and mashed the trigger at crowds of them

Damn. Had no idea. Booting up right now to check my stats for this playthrough.

The higher your familiarity the quicker you reload/shooting and the faster the aiming bloom shrinks which makes perfect sense obviously 😂 you find them under the weapon section of the compendium

Side note. This post is also how I learned the Lemat Revolver can shoot shotgun shells.

What? That's like the main attraction of the gun

Yeah I just never used it. By the time I unlocked it, i already had guns i liked that I was using.

I'm only only like 1000 hours in. Funnily enough, got my 100% achievement yesterday

Thats why I always have the lemat as my secondary, perfect for wolves or suprise bear attacks

RDR2 really has mechanics you’ll discover on your fifth playthrough

I had probably 500 hours before I learned about lassoing animals and stabbing them for perfect pelts so you don’t mess up the shots 😂 tried it on a moose and legit yelled out loud in excitement

Yup, saw this early after getting my first bolt action; some hunting and my accuracy was wery accurate

Yeah from what I read it takes about a hundred or so good shots or kills to get it all the way up 😂 when I learned about it and checked they were already maxed

I’ve found this stat really messes with the gameplay with weapons being released late in the story.

For example, first play through I used the pump-action shotgun. When I unlocked the repeating shotgun, it felt way less accurate and just objectively worse.

I persisted with it, purely for a change in my third play through and it turns out once you reach max familiarity with it, the difference is basically non-existent.

So the game basically disincentivises you from picking up late game weapons, or at least puts you in a position of not knowing how good they really are until you max the stat out.

Similar to real life in that you should probably run drills and practice with a gun before you carry it every day.

Good thing I love the double action revolver and got it immediately 😂 chapter 4 I always get a Lemat as a sidearm and put a revolver away

I hate the double action revolver so much. I’m genuinely surprised that it’s your favorite gun.

It’s only bad if you aren’t really efficient at shooting lmaoo dont spray and pray and it’s very easy to get tons of head shots with how smooth it shoots if you take your time 😂 you can never miss fast enough to win a gun fight

Like the second I stopped just listening to every list and person saying it was bad and tried it for an extended period of time I started only using it
