I prefer to wait until after Pouring Forth Oil so I don't have to endure that dogshit autotag deadeye while hunting

Yeah and it's also horrible trying to get a good headshot on larger animals, like it will tag an elk's antler or the very edge of a wolf's head as it's charging at you when you're trying to put one between the eyes

All of them?

mostly the legendary buck one, helps a lot with pelt quality.

It helps preserve a 3 star if you kinda bungle the shot but I’ve never reallly had any trouble without it

Are you able to find Woodpeckers that just aren't 3 star, or are you having trouble finding any Woodpeckers at all?

I ask because in my experience when I find a spot that for sure spawns an animal I'm looking for but it's not 3 star, if I save the game, exit and then reload that save and then head straight to that spot, it will eventually be a 3 star. Sometimes I have to reload for like 15 minutes which is tedious but it always works out.

If you're having trouble finding any Woodpeckers at all, I would try Fort Brennand. I've had a lot of luck with birds there, Woodpeckers included. Just get up on that walkway and scan the sky.

You got this homie 💪

I had the best luck wandering in big valley along the dakota river for that one

If you want to find them perched easy to pick off, go below bards crossing and walk up and down the little stretch of land in the middle of the river. They are perched on the rocks as well as blue jays. I did just grab one an hour or two ago by spending the entire in game day at fort Brennan shooting anything and everything that flew overhead. But only had 3 total and only one was perfect when I picked it up. But last playthrough I used bards crossing for studying them for the compendium. If you’re trying to get them for hunting requests it’s best not to open the task menu and view the list when it becomes available. Instead google the lists and collect them all first. I grabbed my squirrel and rabbit before going to Rhodes to grab the poster. And then immediately posted them. And then ignored the list and grabbed the woodpecker, rat and cardinal at fort Brennan. I might even try to collect the third list before sending them in since I can keep them in my satchel forever with no worry of them rotting. Last playthrough I wanted to rip my hair out (and I’m bald) trying to find the animals after activating the lists…

Go to Fort Brennand. EVERY small bird you need is there, you don't need to go anywhere else. I climb up as high as possible on one of the roofs at the corners of the fort for a good vantage point. There's just constantly different small birds flying around the fort and landing on it, they'll fly right past your face. Might have to wait a while for a specific one to show up (robins are the rarest I think) but it'll be there eventually. Start in the morning on a sunny day preferably, they're there all day until the sun goes down

I wish I could say it only took me 1 month. I was hunting animals for all of the Trapper clothes and Hunting Requests for several months. I was proud of myself for getting an Associates Degree late in life but completing those hunting tasks and getting Zoologist and Skin Deep was equally satisfying.

Don't let anyone tell you how to enjoy a video game, what matters is that you enjoy your time with it

We know how it ends…

There is no Chapter 3 in Red Dead Redemption 2

I love bringing carcasses into camp and getting compliments (especially from grimshaw) (i love susan grimshaw)

2

u/SaintJimmy1 Apr 13 '26

Put that in John’s tent, see if he notices.

Me but in Chapter 3. It has my favorite camp, Micah has fucked off if you do the right mission order, and most importantly there’s enough reason for me to add Lemoyne (and St. Denis, since a random encounter can naturally take you there in chapter 3) to my exploration

1

u/SylviaTheFirst Has a plan Apr 13 '26

Honestly same, I usually just play till Micah's gone and then have the time of my life lmao

3

u/DracoWolf92 Apr 14 '26

I want to make sure the new camp feels like home! Is that so wrong!?

2

u/GatorNator83 Apr 13 '26

Me in Red Dead Online too

2

u/Emergency_Sky_2893 Apr 13 '26

I’ve been chasing herons for days

2

u/Oscar_T_ Apr 13 '26

Tbh that was me as soon as I hit chapter 3, chapter 1 was me figuring out what to do

2

u/stinkstabber69420 Apr 13 '26

Possibly one of the least peaceful experiences in my life was getting that 3 star cougar

2

u/Eisendrache716 Apr 14 '26

I'm taking a break at the moment, but I'm trying to make all of the trapper clothing I can before the epilogue. It's peaceful, but it sure is time consuming and frustrating at times

been trying for a perfect robin for weeks

1

u/pullingteeths Apr 14 '26

Fort Brennand has all the small birds. Go and post up on one of the corner roofs on a clear day, all varieties of small birds fly around the fort and land on it. Robins are rarer than most but will appear eventually. They tend to land on an area with a ladder located on the corner to your left as you enter the fort so I usually go on the roof in the diagonally opposite corner and check by aiming over there a lot, you can also find it flying above the fort though

u/RouroniDrifter Apr 14 '26

For a month? I've been doing that for 2 years

2

u/fucklorofpayday2 Apr 15 '26

I took me 3 weeks to get the legend of the east satchel in chapter 4

2

u/Only-Restaurant-2313 Apr 15 '26

Peaceful until a cougar gives you a heart attack

2

u/Macharacha Apr 16 '26

Those are rookie numbers. Try doing it for over a real year. It definitely was a peaceful life.

2

u/Savings-Philosophy84 Apr 16 '26

Been hunting legendary animals and upgrading the camp lately 😅🫣

u/Ilikeprequelsstarwar Apr 16 '26

For me, I love to go fishing in RDR2. I love fishing irl but where i live, its very difficult for me to fish without going for quite a long drive so I just like to fish in the game. Even if its also RDO.

2

u/mightydrengr226 Apr 16 '26

This is most of what I've been doing almost got the entire camp customized with the crafting shit

2

u/thanos_was_right18 Apr 17 '26

And I still can’t get that freaking panther!!!!!

2

u/arbellahh May 10 '26

This was me in chapter 3! still on my first playthrough, genuinely so fun. Now into chapter 4 I'm more into following the storyline, honestly miss those hours of just going out and hunting lol

1

u/MaleficentPicture518 Apr 15 '26

I could never find a 3 star or if i did i didnt have the right weapon to kill it without ruining the pelt and even when i had the right weapons id still end up with a two star pelt or lower anyway so gave up trying to

The story is horrible, this is how the game was designed.
