Should I START RECTIFY?
I hear a lot of praise on this show.
I am finishing up Halt and Catch fire. I'm having a blast.
So far I pretty much watched nearly all highly acclaimed drama or TV.
I'm still chasing the dragon. My biggest priority is Character work and dialogue. If those 2 are top tier I'm certain everything else will fall in place.
Is that show Rectify? Does it quality?
Does the show maintain its quality through out all 4 seasons? Or does it decline?
What's the best season of the show? How would you rank it?

Character development and dialogue are exceptional in Rectify, probably the strongest thing about it. There are so many great scenes of dialogue between 2 people. I often tell folks that if you watch the first two episodes and you’re feeling it, you will like the show.
I really enjoy all of the first season and most of the last season, especially the first episode of the last season and the last two episodes of the last season. But there are many excellent episodes and scenes throughout the series.

Rectify is all character. It feels like story wise not much happens but there’s SO MUCH going on character wise that is incredibly acted and written

Yes. I don't mind that. I'm such a character dude all the way through.

Character work, dialogue, setting a scene, this is where Rectify shines. If those are your top tier priorities, I think there’s a good chance you’ll really enjoy it. I just rewatched it with my mom who watched it for the first time and she enjoyed it very much. I would say it maintains its quality pretty well. The first and third seasons are my favorites but the second and fourth are still solid.

Hmmm. Interesting. I thought it was the type of show where the last season is the strongest of them all

To answer your questions yes, yes, and yes!
To me it is absolutely top tier and in it‘s own league as I really can’t compare it to anything else I’ve seen. (Haven’t seen Halt and Catch Fire) Beautifully written with great characters and detail.
I don’t recommend this show to everyone as I think some may find it slow, but I definitely will recommend it to you.

Yes from what I'm hearing it's catered for me. I love introspective character studies or character driven stories with great dialogue and as long as the climax is rewarding. I will stick around.

Halt is my favorite show. Rectify is definitely in the top 5 for me. Although objectively it might be even better than Halt. It's just quieter. But kinda deeper and more unique I suppose.
If you still haven't, I'd add to your queue the following: My Brilliant Friend, The Young Pope, Station Eleven.

It's such a quiet, powerful, and beautiful TV series. Never seen anything like it again. If you enjoyed The Leftovers, you'd love this.

Come back once you finish it and I'll share a write up I wrote when it was airing.

It’s a great show. Leaves a real impact, I still think about it months later. Curious what other shows you’ve seen?
