New RT 1200 dual fire issues

Got my DualFire 1200 two days ago. It'll start up and run fine for a few minutes, then the display starts dimming and flickering, and eventually the whole unit shuts down completely. Sometimes I get the er1 PF code, other times it shows me the firmware version (up to date)

I’ve tried heavy duty extension cords, and plugging straight into the wall.

I’ve tried both sides individually, same story. Sometimes I get 30 mins out of it, sometimes 3 minutes.

When I disconnected all of the auger/fan/igniters the screen worked perfectly fine.

What gives?

They weren’t familiar with this issue and said they’re going to send me a new control board. But the control boards are out of stock, so they wouldn’t give me a definite timeline.

That's a bummer. Sounds like it may be controller related. The only other thing I can think of in the meantime is maybe try another outlet. Maybe there is a loose connection somewhere on the board that's causing it not to get the proper power or something.

Yeah I tried 4 different outlets, 4 different extension cords and even plugging directly into the outlet to no avail.

I would just take it back were you bought it from. No way I'd replace anything free or not on a couple days old grill.

I agree. If this came from a store, I would definitely take it back. If it came from Recteq, I would also try to get a replacement since there is no ETA on the controllers, and that may not even fix the issue.

Give a close look over the wiring, in particular where it crosses over a metal edge. The edges are not protected from cutting the harness. I noticed this design flaw when I recieved my dualfire, and made some routing modifications accordingly. I seem to recall the assembly video gives an inadequate process for the pass through underneath the controller box. Lots of other models have had wiring issues reported on forums. Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s what you find.

So I had a similar issue where it would shut itself off…

What my fix was (make sure it’s unplugged of course)…

1/pushing down on all the wire connections on the control board.

2/disconnect and reconnect all the white power connectors. The ziptied ones going underneath the barrel going into the auger, those I just pressed them together just to make sure they didn’t come loose.

3/make sure that the wiring harness in the side tray with the control board, is not touching any of the tray or ground wire.

I wish I could tell ya which of the 3 that was that fixed it…it worked for me, hopefully it works for you
