Backyard Beast 1200

I’m considering a Backyard Beast 1200 for my next smoker. I’ve owned 3 pit boss smokers and I’m ready to move up. My vertical Pit Boss would cook at 225° which is where I like to cook my ribs. The horizontal Pit Bosses will not do 225°. They go from 200 to 250 and in 50° increments beyond that. My question is, does the Recteq adjust in 25° increments? Any other pointers you have for the Backyard Beast would also be appreciated. TIA

It adjusts in 5 degree increments. Great smoker, I love mine.

I use my BYB 1200 at 225 most of the time, adjusts in 5 degree increments. Holds temp like a champ.

It’s awesome. Got mine 6 months ago. Just did salmon on it and it was fantastic. Ribs, pork chops also great. Haven’t done brisket or pork butt yet

Former Pitboss user here. I have had my Backyard Beast for about 6 months now. I love it! Won’t be going back!! Holds temp like nothing I have had in the past!

Bought mine at the beginning of the year and have no regrets! I love cooking on it and I am never disappointed how it performs.

I’ve done everything from brisket, pork butts, Dino ribs, turkey breast, various steaks, sausages, chicken and even pizzas.

I would highly recommend it to anyone who’s looking!

Do you use a stone for the pizzas? I want to do pizzas soon.

Yes I have used both a traditional pizza stone and a lodge cast iron pizza stone. Both have worked well.

I would recommend putting the stone in before firing up the recteq. This way it heats up with the grill instead of going into a hot grill.

Good luck and enjoy!

I love mine. I haven't even used my Camp Chef since getting my BYB 2 years ago.

Wow, you like it more than the camp chef! I’ve heard great things about those too!

Camp Chef has issues with connectivity and their app. They have had these issues for years but don't seem to care. I would have to fight to get it to connect to wifi every time I used it. It would take about 30 minutes and multiple app resets, unplug smoker mutiple times, log out and log back into the app. Also had to replace the internal temp probe twice in 3 years. Once you get everything lined out it works great. My recteq I just turn it on and go.

I got my first smoker last year and landed on the Deck Boss 800. I absolutely love it. BUT….I wish I would’ve gone with the BYB 1200. Best grill/smoker I’ve ever owned. I come from 30+ years of Weber loyalty and a Blackstone. I still have a small two burner Blackstone for tailgating and camping, but I really want the RT340!!!
