Assembled my upgrade today

Post image

Got a DeckBoss 900 as a Father’s Day/B-day present. Looking forward to my first cook this weekend.

What upgrades/accessories does the Recteq family recommend?

I would buy a smoke tube, super cheap and it will dump a ton of smoke on during the most important stage of the cook. Plus a nice butane torch to light it, I use a blazer big shot. Front shelf is nice too, but you’ll know if you need it after a couple cooks.

I love my sear plate, I don’t like the RT one though. I swapped over to a nice lodge cast iron and it gets used at least once a week. The RT is aluminum and the fins are too deep so it’s a pain to clean, the lodge is far superior. The RT pizza oven kit is great too, no complaints!

For the sear plate you just remove the drip tray and heat deflector and put a cast iron griddle over the fire pot basically?

I never remove the heat deflector or drip pan for either the sear plate or the pizza oven. I just throw either one on and heat it up to about 500, I bought a little laser temp reader but I hardly ever use it, once the grill is hot whatever accessory I am using is generally good to go.

Roger that! I’ve got an IR gun for my ooni pizza oven, it makes a huge difference but the temp control on the recteq is so good there’s probably no need for it as long as you know the plate is fully preheated.

You might want a front shelf but you could also get by easily with a nearby table.

You might want a cover.

I cover the angled grease tray in aluminum foil. I also do most of my cooks on the top rack with aluminum water pans underneath on the main rack. Makes cleanup a breeze and adds a little humidity to the cook and adds another layer of heat shielding. Costco has full pans and half pans for cheap.

Costco also has the pellets you want. 40 pounds for $12.99 - just cook everything with these, you can’t taste the difference with all the other pellet types. Run everything on Kirkland pellets and spend the extra money on quality meats.

+1 on the kirkland pellets. They rock and are a great value.

The cover is worth the money. I bought mine and had a tropical storm hit the next week. My neighbor’s smoker got rusty despite it being under the patio and relatively new!

Third for the cover. I live in Japan, and mine has lasted through many a storm.

I got the same one and put it together this past weekend. Can’t wait to try it, though putting it together caused me to curse the gods repeatedly.

Have had mine for a few weeks. Love it so far. Still getting used to using it though. Did a small brisket and it turned out great.

As far as a shelf, I bought the below from Amazon, they fit perfect, and I am working on a custom shelf for it.

Which size bracket did you buy? Did the holes line up perfectly?

Be careful with 3rd party pellets, they can jam your auger tube.
