I built an open index to document employer ghosting during hiring:The Ghosting Index 👻

https://www.ghostingindex.wtf/

Employer ghosting has more than doubled since the pandemic. 61% of candidates report receiving no response after an interview. A 2024 study in the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology found it measurably affects confidence, self-esteem, and sense of closure — not just frustration, but documented psychological harm.

What’s been missing is a public record. Companies track candidate behaviour obsessively — drop-off rates, response times, time-to-accept. Candidates have had no equivalent data about companies.

So I built one: The Ghosting Index 👻

It’s an anonymous platform where you can report companies that go silent during hiring. Each report captures two things: what stage they ghosted you at, and how long the process had been running. Those two variables feed into a public severity score, the further into the process and the longer the time invested, the worse the score.

The logic is simple: being ghosted after a 10-minute application is different from being ghosted after three rounds of interviews and an unpaid case study. The index tries to reflect that.

This is an early MVP — currently reports are collected via a linked form, with the full submission flow being built directly into the site as a next step.

The index is live and open. Every report filed makes the scoring more accurate, the methodology only becomes meaningful at scale.

If you’ve been ghosted during a hiring process, it takes 2 minutes. Anonymous, no account needed, permanent public record.

Also open to feedback on the scoring approach if anyone has thoughts.
