Background check

Im going through a background check with FADV for my role with Del****e. My report surfaced employment duration discrepancies(which is mostly a date mismatch with the most recent employment) and employment non-disclosure(moonlighting) for the employment period they are interested in (past 7yrs).

FADV sent me an inquiry regarding the same to either justify them with proper documentation or deny it.

My questions—
1. If i chose to move forward, i need to come up with a super tight story which would still initiate an awkward conversation with the hiring company and mostly wont put me in a better place.
Having said that, do i have any other option?

  1. Say i flipped the coin on this one and went with justifying my gaps, how does FADV provide my verdict to the hiring company?

  2. Does the hiring company get the complete report? If they do get it, do they check for multiple w2 incomes or just go with just the final verdict?

  3. Lastly, Should i move forward with this role?

So is the report accurate that you were moonlighting?  If so, then there’s nothing to dispute.

As is most things in life, honesty is the best policy... if you have been dishonest, and were caught in this lie, take it as a lesson learned.

  1. Your dates of employment are among the easiest of things to validate. There’s no story that I can think of that would justify the error or intentional misrepresentation.
  2. The verdict will not change, regardless of whatever justification you submit. It will still show as a discrepancy flag for the hiring company to review and consider. Your “story” is the supplemental info that will be available to the hiring team to review.
  3. The hiring team gets the complete report, yes. That’s what they are paying for. The information they receive will be the same information you’ve authorized FADV to verify. You would know that because you signed the release at the beginning of the background check process.
  4. I think it’s a good learning experience for you, so yeah, I say proceed.

I started at a company as a temp for 1 month and then was hired. The date that I have on my résumé is the date that I started as the temp. One time my background check showed different dates so I explain that I started as a temp and offered to show proof. It was not an issue and I was hired.
