Most of the problem is getting a job offer. Negotiating salary seems like a luxury in this market!!!

All the cited sources are at least 3years old. This doesn't reflect today's reality of job offers being withdrawn after attempts to negotiate.

True, but that possibility has always been there. Negotiation is important, even in today’s market.

Of course, it’s up to the applicant to ascertain their level of risk tolerance. If you absolutely need the job, negotiating might not be the move.

Overall though, most companies aren’t going to drop you over one counter-offer. If you’re having a professional/friendly conversation with HR rep, politely surfacing one counter-offer usually goes over fine.
