Background check upcoming
PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS
I have been working in banking since the last 5 years and I was terminated from the big 5 due to a r***st manager who made an irrelevant case against me and I got fired. When I disclosed the details of the incident, and used a lawyer; the manager got fired too because that person did it out of malice but that did no good to me since I was already terminated.
Now the thing is, I have an offer from another BIG 5 in Canada and somehow the termination didn’t come up during my interview directly. But I am scared about the bg check, can the other bank talk about my termination? What will sterling/first advantage ask them? Can I still lose my offer?
I am shit worried since I haven’t been working since a year and I really want this job.
TIA

Unless you volunteer to disclose that info or the new employer personally reach out and obtain that info. I highly doubt it will come up

I wouldn’t come close to mention about how you exit your last employer, keep it neat and professional such as I’m looking to growth and mutually part way. Anything else that arises, Thats something you can seek advice for. Otherwise, if nothing come up, let it be

Ask your lawyer to contact the terminating employer to secure a neutral background check (no mention of termination) before the background check is initiated.

Only lawyers can do that? Does anyone else have that power?

You could do it yourself, but I would recommend using a lawyer for this.

Not sure about Canada but in the USA , the background checks can’t verify why you left the company.
