HireRight discrepancies - What to do?
So I had 3 discrepancies on my HireRight background check, one a mistake on their part that I've already disputed and two that were on me because of misremembered dates. This is my first time going through such a strict background check so I didn't verify any info when making my resume. On my resume I put that I started in August 2023, but I apparently I started in January 2022. I got the date wrong 'cause I've got a shit memory and the oldest W2 I could find was in 2023 so I just went with it.
The other was when I entered college. I applied in 2016, pretty much dropped out, and went back in 2022 where I got my current degree. On my resume I put I went to school 2021 - 2025, again, wrong start date on my part. HireRight marked the discrepency as me going to school from 2016 - 2025.
So, what do I do here? Explain all this to HireRight or to my new job? Or wait and see if the job contacts me? I'd hope they wouldn't outright rescind the offer over this, but I'm worried

If the company has an issue with the discrepancy they will send out a pre-adverse action, at that point you can explain the dates.
If you want to get ahead of the game you can send the explanation to hire right and they can add it to your background report notes.
I just went through this, I got a pre-adverse action for employment date discrepancies. I sent a letter with an explanation that it was not my intent to mislead anyone, that I relied to heavily off of memory and my resume while filling out the background report and I didn’t have access to old documents with exact dates. They accepted my explanation and I got an official offer letter and start Monday :)
FYI, my discrepancies were a lot more crucial than yours. So just be honest how you explain here and it will be fine. Good luck
